Notes for Edward W. Cookingham

First name Edward is from 1920 census, but it's hard to read -- looks like Eduad. Marriage record confirms that it's Edward.

Edward had several marriages, some of which ended in divorce. The Cookingham - Gegenheimer Family Tree (https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/51009/person/-211720481/facts) lists five marriages: Hattie A. Cartwright, May E., Anna, Nellis Covell, and Rose. His parents are listed as Walter Isaac Newton Cookingham and Sarah A. Johnson. There was a letter among Leonard E. Wilson's effects that says he dropped out of school and went to work in the spring of 1922 because he "was forced by circumstances to support his mother." I thought maybe that meant that his stepfather died at that time, but that is not the case, so I don't know what the "circumstances" were. Ancestry.com has images of Trinidad city directories listing Edward and Rose in 1922 and 1924 and a death certificate showing that he died in Virginia in 1928. The death certificate shows him as married, with spouse Rose Lino, but Rose had remarried to Charles Nash in 1927.

The name on his death certificate (obtained from Ancestry.com, Virginia U.S. Death Records 1912-2014) is Edward W. Cookingham. Cause of death is listed as congestion of lungs. Place of death is listed as Bedford, Liberty Magesterial District, Bedford County, VA. The death certificate says he had lived there for one year six months before his death.

Listed as Edward Cookingham. Living at the City Jail. Age 54 [looks like 54, but I think it should be 59]. Born in Indiana, father born in Ohio, mother born in New York. Occupation, jailer. Household consisted of Edward and Rose Cookingham and stepson Leonard Wilson, plus two prisoners.
