Spelling of Garthwaite taken from Carolyn Gathright Web page. Other spellings include Gathright and Garthwrite. The P.D. Gathright letter spelled his first name as Samual (perhaps just a typo).


From Craig Gathright (Dallas Gathright family tree):

Active in the Curles Congergation in December 1699, Samuel pledged 100 pounds of Tobacco to build a Quaker meeting house.

In 1722 a Quaker metting House was constucted near the Garthwrite home in White Oak Swamp.

[RAND]- his will, dated February 15, 1713, and probated April 5, 1714, bequeathed to eldest son Samuel "one entry of land White Oak Swamp";... the witnesses were Will Porter and Philum Childress. (Henrico ountyRecords,1710-14, p 254, Henrico County,Record Book, No III, p65, No V. p 622)

[QKRGEN]- (P148\177) 9 Dec 1699, (meeting is list of First members) Samll Garite 100 lbs tobacco... subscription received to repair the meeting house at Curles or build another.; 15 May 1710, Shown to be a mbr of this "monthly meeting" when his vote was recorded in a matter of business.(Samuel Gertright)

To eldest daughter Elizabeth GARTHRIGHT, livestock. To Daughter Mary GARTHRIGHT, livestock. To daughter Tabitha GARTHRIGHT, livestock when she comes of age. To daughter Sarah GARTHRIGHT, livestock when she comes of age. To daughter Judith, livestock at marriage, or when she comes of age. To wife Frances, all the rest, and she to be executrix. Dated 15 Feb 1713.
