Court held at Varina for the County of Henrico....Upon the peticon of Amy Gartwrite Relict of Michaell Gartwrite dec'd Order for Comission of Adm:con (administration) is granted her on the sd Deced:ts estate she giving security according to law. Tho: East Jun: & Saml Gartwrite doe in open Court enter themselves security for Amy Gartwrite's due (adminstration) of ye estate of her late husb:d dec'd Will: Ferris, John Robinson, Ed: Moseby & Rich:d Ferris are appointed some time between this & next Court to apprize the estate of Michaell Gartwrite dec'd, & mr Tho: Cocke Senr is here by requested to swear them. at a court held at Varina for the County of Henrico the first day of February ... 1691. Amy Gartwrite Admx of Michl Gartwrite dec'd pr her peticon declareing that should her Creditors be rigorous & take out execucons for their severall debts that small estate she hath would mediately be taken from her, it not amounting to near ye value of ye debts, & therefore praying what relief may be in Equity be allow'd her. It is by the Court order'd that she have five (nine in the original) moneths liberty to improve & make use of the sd Estate before any thereof be taken from her by execucon the issueing whereof is untill that time be Expired suspended.
[Rand]- After her husband's death, in February, 1691, Amy GARTHRIGHT petitioned the court for administration on his estate, and Thomas East and Samuel GARTHRIGHT were her security. She complained to the court that the estate was so small that it just about covered the debts. In the meantime, however, Captain William Randolph had made claim against her for a thousand pounds of tobacco and cask, and on 4.7.1691 he obtained judgment.
