I am working on my wife's genealogy, and she is descended from Higgins' of Baltimore, MD. I came
across your web page in my search, and wonder if you can be of help, or if maybe someone has unearthed some
more information about our Higgins. My wife's relative is Majorie Rebecca
Higgins, daughter of Richard 'Stonewall Jackson' Higgins (b. 1861, d. 1895)
and Margaret Catherine Wright (b. 1865 and d. 1945). They had 2 other children:
Myra and Richard (Dick).
Marjorie knew that Richard's father was William Higgins, no dates. We have searched the census
records and figured out that the 1880 Polk directory and 1880 US Census list father
William Higgins, engineer and son Richard, printer, living with William
jr. (book keeper) and wife Rebecca. We also have figured out that father William Higgins married
Josephine Dorman in 1843 and he died in 1892.
That is all we know.
If by chance if you have photos of William Higgins, or his son Richard Higgins, I'd be thrilled if you could
email a copy to me.
Thanks,
Scott Shane

Looking for Mary Higgins who was born in North Carolina, I think Burke County in the year 1800. She
married Richard Golden abt. 1818. They moved to East Texas, Panola Co. from Blount Co. Ala. A certain
Mills L. Higgins was in Blount Co. the same time as Mary and also on the same Texas 1850 census in Panola Co. I
think they are brother and sister but have no proof. Mills parents are John Higgins and
Rachel Young. Mills m. Martha Young.

related;

Missouri. His nearest relative is his wife Delpha Higgins.
Looking at other Higgins residents I found that some of them also worked at
Frisco. You may want to do some checking on some of the names.

Higgins - Laurens SC to Christian Co. Ky to Crawford Co. Illinois
Hi - I'm researching the Higgins Family, particularly James & Jesse Higgins who lived in Laurens Co. SC.
around 1767-1800. Jesse migrated first to Christian Co. Ky and then to Crawford Co. Illinois. From
information that I've found I believe Jesse could be the son of James Higgins whose first land purchase in
Laurens Co. SC appears to be 1767. I'm interested in corresponding and collaborating with anyone related to
or researching these lines.
Thanks, Sherry Harris

Hi. I am a descendent of Daniel and Sarah Riley Grooms of Polk Co TN--1854 thru 1890 or so. My Dad
was born at nearby Cohutta in 1892. I can remember him speaking of the Higgins family, but didn't know
the connection. When I was at Old Fort TN a few years ago, I tried to locate some of the Higgins family but
was unsuccessful.
I just received my Polk Co Genealogical Society Quarterly with an article on the Higgins family.
John Higgins, son of Ananias, married a Mary Grooms. Is it
possible that this Mary is the daughter of my Daniel and Sally Grooms?
Please let me know if this is a connection. I've been able to find paper trails
of the boys of Daniel but not the girls, except for one. Thanks for any assistance.

Seeking information on Elizabeth Higgins. She was married to
William M. Owens and they were the parents of Martha Ann Owens born June 14, 1840 in SC.
I am seeking to find out if Elizabeth was a member of a Native American group, possibly Cherokee. Or,
could it be that William M. Owens was a Cherokee?
If you have information on this I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks so much.

I am trying to find the parents of William Higgins.
He was born in 1795 according to the marriage bond signed by his mother,
Catharena Higgins on 18 December, 1816 in Rockingham County, Virginia. His
wife was Nancy Harrison whose father was Thomas Harrison. They were in Tennessee shortly after that
before moving to Orange County, Indiana. I am assuming William and Nancy both died in Indiana, but I
have no verification. Thank you so much for your time.

I wonder whether you've been contacted by anyone else working on the Higgins' in Wheeling?
I descend from Robert and Anne (Lewis?) Higgins, who have their own household in Ohio County (W) VA in
1830. He was born ca 1802 in NJ, she was born England (both birth locations taken from census).
Robert and Anne had a number of children, only 3 of whom I can connect:
1. Martha Ann Higgins -- b. 1829/30, Ohio County (my grgrgrgrandmother)
2. Thomas Lewis / Louis Higgins -- b. 1838 (in the census usually as Louis)
3. Robert Taylor Higgins -- b. 1842
Robert Higgins is living next door to Thomas H. Higgins (photographer) in Wheeling in 1870, as your
website confirms. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mjhiggins/wv.htm#thomash
Along with several other clues, I think that my line and the Bernard Higgins line are connected. In fact,
given their relative ages, I think Bernard and my Robert (b. 1802) must be brothers.
Have you come across anyone else looking into this family?
Thanks for any help.

My name is Diane Richards and I live in Florida. My father used to tell us about our family history and
although he couldn't remember alot of it, it was fascinating to me growing up.
Our family has been on Mnt. Desert Island since the late 1600's or early 1700's. My father used to say
we've been on that island since Cadillac Mountain was 4 feet high. He told me that my great, great
grandfather was Alonzo Higgins. He also told us that Alonzo had a daughter,
Addie, who married my great grandfather, George Richards. He mentioned the name
Royal Higgins as being Alonzo's brother. He said he wasn't sure of who was who but that his father used to
tell him these things. My father passed away last month and I would like to be able to tell my children
about our family history.
George and Addie Higgins had two children, Hoyt and Georgia. George and Addie are buried at the Town Hill
Cemetery. I don't think we were ever supposed to leave the great state of Maine as I hate the heat. We have
been in Florida for 43 years. Our old family home is in Indian Point on Oak Hill Rd. My father sold it 4
years or so ago. The house had been in our family since the beginning of our history on the island. We
have title deeds dating as far back as the early 1700's.
I keep trying to find things on the computer and so far, your place has been the only place I have found
Alonzo's name. If you can shed any light on this for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Diane Richards [email protected]

"I am looking for information on a Mary* Higgins married to Daniel Emmons
Pray, probably Bar Harbor/Trenton area of Maine. Does anyone have information on either of these 2? They had a child
named Fanny Pray (b. 1857). Fanny Pray married Charles Brown (b. 1857)--both from Bar Harbor"
The Mary mentioned most likely is actually Melissa Higgins
-Webmaster's findings-
In the 1850 Census for Royal & Sarah Higgins they have daughter named Melissa and she and her family are
living next to the Pray family which is at the top of the image, the only one missing from the image because
he was enumerated on a different page is Eben Pray age 47, Male. Occupation listed as Seaman

I just found out some background on my mothers family. Unfortunately, her mother M.

from tuberculosis when she was about two months old. Her mothers sister Alice adopted her. I have never

I am trying to make a connection with Mansel Higgins William Higgins and
Caleb Higgins. William and Mansel were more than likely brothers. I know their wives
were sisters.
Here's what i know:
James Henry (Polk) Higgins was born 1845 in Hamilton Co. TN. (1850 Census Hamilton Co.
TN) and was living with his parents (George W. Higgins and Nancy ?). The
family was living in Marion County, TN by 1860 and the elders died about 1899 and 1900 there.
I need to connect these Higgins with the following: Richard Mancel Higgins, Absalom Higgins, William
Higgins, Caleb Higgins, Moses Higgins and Riley Higgins, all from Walker Co. GA and Hamilton Co. TN
area. I have reasons to believe that these people are closely connected to George W. Higgins but no
documentation to support this. They were all always living close to each other. Do you have any Higgins
relatives who were living in the Walker Co. GA or Hamilton Co. TN areas in the early 1800's? Please
contact me, I would love to chat with you. Anyone researching this line of Higgins?

-Looking for Higgins ancestor-
I have been looking for the parents of Charles W Higgins, born 31 May 1815 in Ohio (possibly Highland
Co.). He married Mary M Stanforth 13 Aug 1839. (More on connection to Stanforth family at
http://www.carolyar.com/RichardStandforth.htm)
One of their sons was Benjamin Franklin Higgins, born 7 Sep 1851, who married
Eudora Jane Copley 7 Sep
1874 in Walnut Grove, Knox Co., Illinois. I know about Charles' Civil War history
On Site at n-cw1ai.htm
Soldier # 15 and his death
My mother-in-law (Charles' great-granddaughter) believed he was the grandson of
William Higgins, who
was born 1745 (England or Virginia) and lived in Virginia for a time with his wife,
Margaret Mooney.
William died in 1842 in Jackson Twsp., Highland Co. OH, as did Margaret. , but the only time I have seen
a father for Charles is on the Family Search site http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp
where his father was listed as "Leeds Higgins" with a birth date of about 1789 in OH and his mother as
"Mrs. Leeds Higgins" born in 1794 in Lorain, OH. But, nowhere else have I found mention of Leeds Higgins,
certainly not as one of William's sons.
Would greatly appreciate any help with Charles' parents.

Subject: James and Jereta Higgins
Hi,
I ran across your website today while filling out my family Bible. I wonder if you might have any
information on James Marion Higgins born about 1859 in Crawford Il.? That might be a township but I'm not
sure, and also may have been Honeycreek in that twp.
He married Jereta Simons on July 23, 1882. He would be my Great Great Grandfather. That is as far back as I
could trace.
Any information you have would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Valerie Hill

We are looking for the ancestry of
David Higgins, who was born in Vermont in 1804. We believe, but have
no documentary evidence, that he was one of the children of Uriah Higgins
(1772 MA - after 1852 VT), and possibly born in Hartland, Windsor County Vermont.
No birth record has turned up in Hartland, so far.
He married Mary Randall in Williston, Chittenden county Vermont in 1828. They had at least two
children in Vermont and moved west to Michigan in 1836, where they had two daughters dying young and a
son Edwin Higgins.
Are there any descendants of Uriah Higgins who might have information about "Uncle David?"

What a great resource this Higgins Genealogy is! Surprisingly, I haven't found anything about my Higgins forebears. I'm looking for information about the family of
Michael Higgins, born 29 September 1855 possibly in Ohio and died 10 March 1932 in Moorhead MN. His parents were

Peter or Patrick born in 1864, another sister Margaret
who died in July 1929 in St. Paul MN, and another brother Thomas who died in the 1920's and may have lived in Canada.
I would appreciate any information about the parents, Michael Higgins and
Annie Haney. I would also like to know the places of birth for their children
Mary, Michael, Peter/Patrick, Margaret and Thomas, and the dates and places of birth and death for Mary, Peter/Patrick, Margaret and Thomas. Thank you for any data for any of these people.

I am Sister Anne Higgins, a member of the Daughters of Charity,
teaching at Mt. St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
I was born in West Chester, PA. My father, Vincent Higgins, now aged 91, is the last person living from
his generation.
Vincent was the second youngest child of Thomas and Margaret Slavin Higgins of Morstein, PA - a village in
Chester County. Their other children were: Sara, Mary, Julia, Thomas,
John, and Joseph. Vincent's brother Thomas Higgins had three sons:
Thomas (Penfield NY), John (Pittsfield MA) and Richard ( deceased). These men also have sons.
I know only minimal anecdotal material about the family. I hear that my grandfather
came from County Cork, and my grandmother, from Letterkenny, in Donegal; they met in this country. My grandfather had
at least two other brothers who came to the US: Cornelius and
Patrick Higgins, who settled in Philadelphia. My grandfather worked for the Pennsylvania railroad.
He died before I was born, around 1945 or 46. My grandmother died in 1961.
All their children were born on their small farm in Morstein, PA. When my father applied for a passport in
1972, he had to get the information from the 1920
census, plus a notarized letter from my
Aunt Sara, the oldest sister, testifying that he was born there.
I would be glad for any information anyone might have to link this branch to other relatives, and
especially to find the children and grandchildren of Cornelius and Patrick Higgins, and also to find out if there are
any cousins still in Ireland.
Thanks so much
