My mother was Ida Mae Higgins.
from what I understand, she was abandoned as a child of 2yrs. old by
her father, Joseph Higgins. her mother had died in
a "big storm", which i can only guess was a hurricane, in 1912, in
Morgan City, Louisiana. She said that she had only heard that she
was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, about 1910. she was also was not
sure, but thinks her mother's name was Josie Higgins,
whose ancestry is possibly linked to West Virginia. any info would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jane

I'm searching for additional information on my
ancestor (about 8 generations ago) named John Higgins. He was born
circa 1706-1709 in Prince Georges County, Maryland (which a part of
PG County later became Montgomery County and then Frederick County,
MD --- or vice versa). I believe he married Sarah Magruder around
1729. They had 2 children: Ann, born 6/20/1729 and James William,
born 11/17/1733. It's possible that John's father's name was
Stephen. Beyond this information, I'm dead in the water.
Any information that you can provide re John Higgins' death, his
parents and dates/locations would be most appreciated.
You have an extraordinary website. It's obvious that
this has been a labor of love.
Thank you. Mike McDonald

My Higgins brick wall is as follows:
My great, great grandfather Thomas Graham was born
in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Feb. 5, 1845. His mother was
Annie HIGGINS, born in Musquodoboit, married to
Timothy Graham. Thomas married Rose
LaBelle and moved to Rockland, Maine, where they both died.
Additional details (added 23 Oct 2007) for
Annie (HIGGINS)Graham.
Her husband, Timothy Graham, was born in Ireland.
Their son and his wife, Thomas and Rose (LA BELLE)
Graham, emigrated to Maine in the 1880s. Rose died 21
Nov. 1912 and Thomas died 30 July 1916, both in
Rockland, Maine, where they had lived. They are
buried in Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Thomaston,
Maine. My great grandmother, Mary Malvina Graham, was
their only child.
I have looked at Ralph Higgins' June 26, 2004, submission "John
Higgins and Hester Carmichael" on your Web site but I could find no
Annie.
There is an Ann HIGGINS listed in the 1881 Canadian
Census. It shows her as a 72-year old widow, b. Nova Scotia,
Roman Catholic, living with Timothy Graham, age 39,
and his family.

have hit a brick wall on my
ancestor Thomas Higgins b ca 1823, most documents say in
PA. On the 1880 census records he says his father and mother
were born in Ireland , but I have not been able to find any
documents with their names. He died 7 Dec 1880 in Tarrant Co
Tx and is buried in Hood Cemetery . He married Elizabeth F
? (date unknown) who stated on the 1880 census that she was from KY
and didnt know where her parents were born. She died 6 Nov 1901
and is buried in Zion Cemetery, Blaine Co OK.
They had the following children:
John T born and died 1858
Mary Margaret born 1859 and died in car wreck in
OK 1910
Nancy Louisa (Margarets twin) born 1859 and
died 1940
George M born 1862 and died 1863
Zackarias Coleman ( Tex ) born 1865 and died unk.
Never married
Anna B born 1867 and died 1881
Martin VanBuren (my ggrandfather) born 1869 and
died 1935
married Kezia Permelia
Byas 1892.
Their children were:
Earl Thomas 1893-1970
Porter Raymond 1895-1962
Vivian Eugenia 1897-1960
Hughlee
1906-1979
Mattie Lee born 1874 and
died 1956
Roxie B born 1874 and
died 1983
Twin Girl born 1874
and died at birth
Supposedly the family name was OHiggins but the O was dropped at
some point. Family legend has it that Thomas left home at an early
age and went to dig for gold in California and was quite
successful. After settling in Tx he made 2 trips back to CA
with wild horses to sell to the miners. He went to St Louis to
marry his 14 y/o mail order bride. During the Civil War he was
a Texas Ranger.
The only documentation I have found on him is:
1870 and 1880 census (Tarrant Co TX)
1858 and 1863 probate sale records (Tarrant

1860,63,64 tax lists (Tarrant

There was no 1860 census taken in Tarrant

Muster Roll for 20th Brigade Texas Militia
(probably the basis for the rumor he was a Texas Ranger because the

Bangor , Maine
I am just researching my family
Comments: I recently moved to Maine, after the death of my
Uncle, Elwyn " Red" Higgins, who was like a father
to me. He was a Navy Seal, and a business owner in Searsport, Maine.
My father Howard Leroy Higgins died in Orlando Florida in
2000. He was also a business owner. I am looking for any and
all information on my family tree, as I was not a part of this
family most of life and not by choice either. I do know my roots are
great
and I would love to have some info on how to trace them. Thank
you.

Elwyn 'Red' Higgins
SEARSPORT (June 1): "It's not the destination, it's
the journey."
Elwyn "Red" Higgins, 65, died May 29, 2007, at a
Bangor health care facility. He was born Dec. 2, 1941,
in Morristown, N.J., the son of Ernest and Erma
(Gould) Higgins.
Red was a member of the Exiles of Maine, American
Legion, Frank Hazeltine Post No. 43 of Belfast, and
Power Parachute Club of Maine. He was also a volunteer
firefighter of North Searsport. Red spent many years
as chief engineer in the merchant marine, stationed
out of Louisiana and Rhode Island. He was always
willing to rescue and help fellow motorcyclists
stranded and in need of a mechanic.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Donna Higgins
of Searsport; five children, Robin, Roland, Ann Marie,
Reggie, and Shanon Higgins; eight grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his
brothers, Robert, Howard and Johnny.
He will be fondly remembered by his many, many special
friends. This is an end of a legend. He is also
survived by extended family, the Moultons of
Searsport. A special thanks to Warren and Diane.
In keeping with his request, a day of remembrance and
celebration will be held Wednesday, June 6, at his
Searsport home, 42 Frankfort Road. A service of
Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Condolences
to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.

Searsport business owner Life-Flighted after ultralight plane crash
BELFAST A Searsport business owner was taken by Life-Flight
helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center after his
powered-parachute ultralight plane crashed into a tree at Belfast
Municipal Airport.
The powered parachute aircraft used Tuesday morning by Elwyn
"Red" Higgins dangles from the tree where it crashed at
Belfast Municipal Airport. Higgins was taken by Life-Flight
helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center. DANIEL DUNKLE
Elwyn Higgins, 55, known as Red to his friends, was badly
injured at the scene, according to those who witnessed the crash.
Higgins runs Reds Harley shop in North Searsport.
Witnessing the crash was flight instructor Dunbar Seamans of Belfast
who said Higgins was very new as a pilot and only had about two
hours of flying
experience. All of his experience was in light-weight
powered parachute vehicles.
He told me before he took off, I dont feel real
good about this, Seamans said.

This accident was pure inexperience, Seamans said.
Seamans said he had started up the engine for Higgins
vehicle. It has a pull-start like a lawnmower, he
said.
Higgins took off and was only in the air a short time,
about 30 seconds, according to Belfast Police Sgt.
John Gibbs.
Seamans said that the plane started to go to the left
and Higgins should have steered it to the right. He
didnt, however, and the plane flew directly into the
tree. In addition, Seamans said Higgins should have
turned off the planes engine once he was in the tree,
but failed to do so.
A powered parachute vehicle similar to the one Elwyn
"Red" Higgins crashed Tuesday waits on the tarmac at
Belfast Municipal Airport. The vehicle is owned by
flight instructor Dunbar Seamans of Belfast. DANIEL
DUNKLE
People at the scene said Higgins was fine when he was
stuck up in the tree in his vehicle and talking to
people below. Higgins was urged not to try to get down
from the tree himself, but to wait for help.
Higgins unhooked his seatbelt and fell about 40 feet from the tree
and that was how he was injured.
He neglected all the rules, Seamans said. It was most
likely due to panic.

My husbands mothers
family are Higgins. George W. Higgins born about 1873
in Wiconisco Dauphin County PA. I have determined that his
father is James Higgins born about 1843 in PA (I
believe). I cant find anymore about the Higgins line.
In particular looking for the immigrant ancestor because my
husbands family isnt even certain if they are of Irish
ancestry. I would also be interested in determining if this
James Higgins is one of the 13 James Higgins from PA that fought in
the Civil War.
My records indicated that James was married to Fannie and
they had Arthur, William, George, Matilda, Harry, John, Maggie,
Pearl, Joseph. Whatever else you have to clue us in on the
other Higgins of Dauphin County PA I would appreciate it.

I can provide some new info for you on her, and I'm looking for some
more solid info connecting the first four people in the list.
I did some fairly complete research some time
ago, but it seems that it got misplaced (alas). Now I'm trying
to see what sort of research can be done on line.
Thanks for your time.

If this is the correct family, this census will give some clues.
Barnard's wife died prior to 1880 and they possibly came over after
1874, since the daughter is listed as six years old and was born in
Ireland.

Where did your Higgins
ancestor come from? Maine from Ireland
I am looking for any one in the family my dad was Clifford
Higgins Sr. I have one uncle Richard My grandfather was Clarence
I know I had ancestors who left Ireland and fled to northern
Maine Don't know when any info would be great but I have very little

second wife .

(Roll: 829; Page: 10B); as boarders with Harry L Sutter 31
Faye L Sutter 26 Richard R Sutter 6 Betty F Sutter

Your site is unbelievable, its so great. I am a beginner and
as others on your message board have stated, at a "brick
wall" is where I am also.
My grandmother Mattie Alice Higgins Sallee b 6-6-1899
Ark d 12-28-1964 Ca was daughter of Frank L Higgins b
3-18-1872 Ky and Florence Rees b 1881 Ark and married 5-28-1898 in
Washington, Ark. Before Frank married Florence there was a son
Hamilton b 1892 Mother ? Mattie had a sister
Sarah Daisy b. 2-8-1909 Ark, d 2-21-1984 Ca married Ira
Frances Crosby, b abt 1896 in "Cottonwood" Ok. Brothers: William b abt 1903 Ark, Arthur b abt 1905, and
Raymond b abt 1908. Frank remarried after Florence' passing to
a Martha and they had a daughter Ora Pauline Higgins. Frank
had a sister Sarah R b 1859 Ky who was listed in both 1900 and
1910 Census from Washington Co Ark so assume she didn't marry, or at
least until later in years. This is all I have and can't find
Franks 1st wife, parents or Forence's parents. I have tried so many
sites and joined MyTrees.com and am in contact with a distant
relation on my grandfathers side, Salle where I am also
stumped.
My grandmother Mattie Alice Higgins married John Brian Sallee whose
father was Stephen Frey Sallee and mother was Katherine Hoffman and
he had two brothers, Joseph E and George Dewey so someone might
relate those names in relation to Mattie Alice Higgins.
I hope someone on your site can relate to these names and we can
help each other.
