Our Objective

The society will promote and encourage an interest in genealogy among it's members and the general public. Working closely with the Waterford Township Public Library, the society aims to educate and enhance research opportunities.

Our 16th Annual Lock-in took place on May 4, 2019. There were 52 attendees, 4 presenters.

Library Director Joan Rogers welcomed everyone, along with WGS President Dot LaLone.

Library staff members, Andrew and Jonathon ensured a well run evening without any problems.

Who really stepped up when Katherine R. Willson had to cancel due to illness.

Katherine was missed but everyone sent get well wishes to her. Karen was entertaining as always.

Great presentations were given by Dr. Jim Sims, Hal Learman and Julia Hanneman-Schoenbach.

 Thank you to Rich Turnblom for sharing his incredible collection of New England research materials.

 Thanks also go to all the WGS members who volunteered and to those who brought desserts- enjoyed by all.


The Waterford Twp Public Library is now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library.

The Family History Library has extensive collections of primary genealogical and historical records from around the world. Digital Images: Through this partnership with FamilySearch and the Family History Library, researchers at the WTPL Library can now view digital images of record sets that were previously only available only at FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries, Family History Centers or the Family History Library.

Meetings / Membership Information

The Waterford Genealogical Society meets from 1-3 pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the community room of the Waterford Township Public Library.

The library is located at: 5168 Civic Center Drive, Waterford MI, 48329 Click for map

INCLEMENT WEATHER: Should Waterford schools or the Waterford Township Library be closed on a meeting day there will be no WGS meeting.

Meetings are FREE of charge. Non-members are welcome to attend. Membership in the society is open to individuals interested in genealogy irrespective of place of residence.

Evening meetings are once a month (Except for July & August), on the 2nd Tuesday from 7-8:30pm in the library's Conference room with the 1st half hour for the Germanic Interest Group
