Thomas J. Waddell
"Memphis - Thomas J. Waddell, age 77, of Memphis went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, following a brief stay in Mount Clemens General Hospital. He was born in Detroit on Nov. 6, 1922, a son to Robert and Jessie (Scotland) Waddell. He married Ethel O. Galarneau in Clawson on Feb. 15, 1947. Mr. Waddell was employed as a residential and commercial painter and was a member of the painter's union in Mount Clemens. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. Tom served as a member of the Memphis Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and was elected mayor of the City of Memphis in the mid 1960's. He was a Memphis resident for 50 years. He was a member of the Huron Harmony Barbershop Chorus and a drummer in the Marysville Pipe Band. Tom was an avid bowler and competed in the Tuesday night league at Pine Ridge (formerly Strikers). He also loved to ski and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as other sports. Surviving are his wife, Ethel, daughters, Cynthia (Robert) Brazee of Lenox Township, Dorianne (Lew) Orris of Brown City and Denise (David) Catherines and Roberta (Rick) McMann, all of Goodells; ten grandchildren; four great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Williamson, and sisters, Margaret Sensor and Catherine Brenner. Services will be on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis, with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Nowinski officiating. Interment will be in Memphis Cemetery. Visiting in the funeral home is today and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorial may be made to the Memphis Fire Department."

Ella L. Wagner
"St. Clair - Ella Louisa Wagner, 90, of St. Clair died Friday, May 26, 2000. She was born June 10, 1910, in St. Clair to the late John and Nancy O'Brien. She married George Edward Wagner on June 6, 1936, in Port Huron. He died Dec. 24, 1991. Ella worked for the East China School System and was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Clair. She is survived by her son, John (Donna) Wagner; brother, Edward M. O'Brien; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy (Paul) Blumer, in 1995. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, St. Clair. The Rev. David Friedkin will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Missionary Committee of First Baptist Church, St. Clair."

"Charles E. Waite, 64, died suddenly at his home at 1214 Tenth Avenue, Port Huron, Sunday afternoon. Mr. Waite is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs ... Wilson, Port Huron, Mrs. Frank Courtwright of Alpena, and Miss Edna Waite, a nurse at the Davidson hospital, Detroit. Four grandchildren also survive."

Hiram A. Waite
"Hiram A. Waite, pioneer resident of the city, died at his home, 1422 Washington Ave., late, Tuesday, following a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered Tuesday morning, while at work at his office in the Pere Marquette freight department. Mr. Waite suffered a stroke of paralysis about a year ago, but recovered sufficiently to resume his duties. On Tuesday morning, he was stricken while at work and was taken home. He did not regain consciousness. Mr. Waite is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Waite and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Joseph Ronan, Mrs. Joseph Kaupp, Miss Mary A. Waite, Ernest J. Waite, and Harry J. Waite. A brother, Charles Waite, of Midland, also survives the deceased. Mr. Waite, at the age of 19, assisted in the surveying work for what is now The Pere Marquette Railroad, and has been in the employ of the railroad practically all of his lifetime. The funeral announcement will be made later."

Winnifred Waite
"Mrs. Winnifred Waite, 67, widow of Ellery Waite, died Thursday in her home, 10834 Gilbert road, Riley Township, after a long illness. Mrs. Waite, a native of Cheney, Kan., was born Jan. 23, 1883. She was a resident of St. Clair County 55 years. Mr. Waite died March 25, 1945. Mrs. Waite, past worthy matron of Alnata chapter No. 222, OES, was a member of the Memphis Congregational church and of the Farm Bureau. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. William Burgam, Ferndale, Mich., and Mrs. Clayton Lewis, Memphis; a brother, James B. Gregg, Memphis; four nieces Mrs. Warren Storey and Mrs. Charles Hanton, both of Port Huron and Mrs. E.T. Miller and Mrs. H.E. Manes, both of Clawson, Mich.; four nephews, George C. Gregg, Memphis; H. Gregg Lewis, Chicago; Roger L. Lewis, Port Huron and Richard A. Lewis, Colorado Springs, Colo., and 11 grandnephews and six grandnieces. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the family home. Rev. Clayton A. Lewis, pastor of the Memphis Congregational church will officiate. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery under auspices of Alnata chapter No. 222. The remains are in the family home."

"Died. - In Memphis, St. Clair County, March 20th, 1869, Sarah J., only child of Mr. and Mrs. John Wakeling, aged 21 years. Calmly and sweetly she fell asleep, wit[h]out an intervening cloud between her and the Christian hope. Her parents have lost an affectionate and dutiful daughter; the society in which she moved an amiable and devoted Christian; and although her sun has set in the morning of life, she will come up in the glorious morn of resurrection blooming with immortal youth and singing the triumphant song, 'O death, where is they sting, O grave, where is thy victory!' - 'She has passed death's chilling billow, And gone to rest; Jesus smoothed her dying pillow, Her slumbers blest.'"

Gerald M. Walker
"Clearwater, Fla. - Gerald M. Walker, 69, of Clearwater, Fla., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in the Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, Fla. He was born in Imlay City, and moved to Clearwater in 1974 from Port Huron. He retired in 1990 as a senior vice president of First Florida Bank of Clearwater. He was a former president and member of the Board of Directors of North East Bank, Clearwater; a former board member of the Downtown Development Board; a member and past president of the board of directors of the East Clearwater Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and a member of Countryside Country Club and the Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict after which he returned to Port Huron, where he served as a senior vice president and member of the board of directors at Michigan National Bank f or 24 years. In Port Huron, he was elected to the Michigan Softball Sports Hall of Fame, served as campaign chairman of the Community Chest, was past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the March of Dimes and was voted Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Port Huron in 1961. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary K. Walker of Clearwater, Fla.; son, John B. Walker of Clearwater, Fla.; daughters, Deborah K. Combs of Gainesville, Fla. and Kathy Jo Rothfolk of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brothers, Guy Walker of Barton City, Donald Walker of West Branch, Keith Walker of Port Huron and Neal Walker of Carney, Neb.; grandson, Andrew M. Rothfolk of Chattanooga, Tenn.; granddaughters, Tiffany and Katie Walker of Clearwater, Fla., Jessica and Marissa Combs of Gainesville, Fla. and Brittany Rothfolk of Chattanooga, Tenn. Funeral services were at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Road, Clearwater, Fla. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Timothy Eichberger of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct military graveside honors. John Walsh
"DEATH ROLL. John Walsh, an old and valued citizen of Port Huron, died at his home 1103 Washington Ave. on Thursday morning. The deceased who was born in Ireland 66 years ago came to Port Huron fifty one years ago when a mere boy. At first he worked in saw mills and lumber yards but 40 years ago embarked in the hotel business and subsequently in the grocery business in both of which he was successful. For the past few years he was a great sufferer from rheumatism. He leaves a wife and three daughters, Mrs. M. Fenton, Mrs. Fred Haynes and Miss Julia Walsh. The funeral will be held from St. Stephens church Monday morning at 9 o'clock."

"Mrs. H. F. Ward - Mrs. Catherine V. Ward, 55, of 4644 Gratiot Rd., Kimball Township, died
Sunday in Port Huron Hospital after an illness of one week. Mrs. Ward was a resident of Kimball Township for the last 12 years, and came to the United States from Scotland in 1924. She was a member of St. Christophers Catholic Church, Marysville. Mr. and Mrs. Ward were married in July, 1929. She was born September 8, 1904, in Greenock, Scotland. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. David Schuman, Smiths Creek; four sons, James W. Ward, Grand Rapids; Harold A. Ward, Birmingham, Ala; John V. L. Ward, Detroit, and Charles B. Ward, Port Huron; a nephew, James Quigley, Ottawa, Ontario; seven grandchildren, and several relatives in Scotland. The remains are in the Arthur Smith Funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 pm, Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 am, Wednesday in St. Christopher's church.

Mr. Ward retired from Chrysler Corp., Marysville, in 1968. "The funeral services for the late Mrs. Mabel Ward, who passed away Friday night at the home of her mother, Mrs. Charles Schumacher, 2926 24th Street were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the family residence. Rev. Thomas Cooke officiated. Fred Ward, husband of the deceased is a member of the 85th division now in France and a cablegram telling of his wife's death has been forwarded to him. Mrs. Ward, who was 28 years of age, is survived by her mother and husband."

Margaret Ward
"Mrs. Albert Ward - Dies in N. Mexico - Mrs. Albert A. Ward, formerly Miss Margaret McKenzie, of Port Huron, died at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Word of her death was received here by Mrs. John McKenzie, 930 Union street, a sister. The deceased had been in poor health for the past several years and about three years ago she went from this city to Albuquerque, N.M. accompanied by her husband, with the hope of recovering her health. She suffered three attacks of pnumonia(sic) since the first of this year, the last coming in July, from which she gradually grew weaker. Besides her sister, Mrs. John McKenzie, of this city, the deceased is survived by another sister, Miss Mary McKenzie, who went to Albuquerque some time ago and is still there; also by two brothers, Alex. McKenzie, of Amadore, and Robert McKenzie, of Wales township. The deceased had spent her entire life in Port Huron, previous to her going to New Mexico. Her remains will be brought here for burial. Announcement of the time of the funeral services will be made later."

Peter Ward
"Retired Lake Captain Dies In Home Here - Capt. Peter Ward, 68, retired Great Lakes shipmaster and resident of Port Huron all his life, died this morning in his home, 27 Taylor street, after an illness of 11 months. Captain Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ward was born here Oct. 15, 1870, and started his sailing career when he was about 18. He retired five years ago after more than 45 years on the Great Lakes. He was a member of Port Huron lodge, No. 2 International Ship Masters Association. His son, Capt. William Ward, Lorain. O., is also a Great Lakes shipmaster. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Capt. William Ward, Lorain, and Frank Ward, Detroit, two daughters, Mrs. H.L.Weitzman and Mrs. John Hoyan both of Port Huron; four brothers, Alfred Ward, Long Island N.Y.; Emil R. Ward, Port Huron; Arthur J. Ward, Duluth Minn. and Fred E. Ward, Buffalo; two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Lasher and Mrs. R. Z. Schooley, both of Port Huron, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dr. Victor F. Brown, pastor of Ross Memorial and Sturges Memorial Congregational churches, will officiate at funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Albert A. Falk mortuary. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery."

Rose T. Warholik
"Alpena - Rose T. Warholik, 81, formerly of Port Huron, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 in Alpena. She was born Feb. 11, 1918 in Betumeh, Pa. She had lived here locally since 1938. She was married to Joseph M. Warholik Sr. He died in 1979. Rose was an active member of St. Stephen Parish and a volunteer for their funeral luncheon committee. She was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society of St. Stephen Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for the Mid City Nutrition Program, Rose was an avid bowler and an excellent cook and baker. Mrs. Warholik is survived by her son, Joseph M. (Diane) Warholik, Jr. of Alpena; grandsons, Michael Warholik of Lansing,and Jeffrey Warholik of Alpena; sister Eleanor Woods of Clinton Township; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen church. The Rev. David J. Lesniak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visiting is 2 to 9 p.m. today at Karrer Simpson Funeral Home. A scripture service will be at 7 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Mid City Nutrition Program."

Madeline Warren
"Port Huron - Mrs. Madeline Cline Warren, 57 of Port Huron, died, Monday, Oct. 18, 1999. She was born June 13, 1942 in Port Huron to the late Victor and Gladys Cline and was a lifelong area resident. She is survived by her husband, William; a daughter, Judy Tidwell; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Mildred) Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Beverly) Shafer; three grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Breeden and AM Tidwell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jenny Ostrander, and a brother, Lincoln Cline. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Oct. 20, 1999 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. Ruth Cummings of Full Gospel Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. "St. Clair - Vicki L. Warren, 56, of St. Clair, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998 in Port Huron Hospital. She was born Dec. 3, 1941 in Waynesville, N.C. to the late John and Evelyn Jones. She married Huber Warren on Dec. 4, 1960. Vicki worked for Kroger's for the past 25 years and was presently at the Richmond Kroger Store. She will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Hubert; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jody Warren; her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Ron Charron, all of St. Clair; four granddaughters, Amberlee, Kaylen and Kelsey Charron and Taylor Warren; four sisters, Wanda (Carl) Venditelli, Dorothy (Paul) Abraham, Donna (Frank) Kozlowski and Sharon Douglas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. John Naile will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. today. Mrs. Warren's nephews, Tony and Carlo Venditelli, Joseph, Steve and David Dipiazza and Matt Lesnau will serve as pallbearers. "Kimball Twp. - Christopher Scott Warsalla, 42, of Kimball Twp., passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Harper Hospital after a short but valiant fight with leukemia. He was born Dec. 3, 1957, in Port Huron. He was a lifelong area resident. He attended St. Joseph grade school and Port Huron High School, graduating in 1976. He was employed by Huron Manufacturing. Chris loved his family and spent many hours tinkering on cars with his son. Chris enjoyed model trains, hunting, fishing and line dancing. He is sadly missed by his wife of 18 years, Norma Warsalla; his sons and their girlfriends, Christopher Warsalla and Erin Loxton and Danny Warsalla and Katie Shaw, all of Smiths Creek; his daughter, Alicia Warsalla of Smiths Creek; his parents, Frank and Francine Minor Warsalla of Port Huron; his brothers, FC1 (SW) Patrick (Denise) Warsalla of Port Orchard, Wash., Franklin George Warsalla of Port Huron, Chief Petty Officer Larry (Devorah) Warsalla of Norfolk, Va.; his sisters, Beth (Mike) Harvill of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Loxton and special friend Terry of Port Huron, and Kelly (Wayne) McClelland of Marysville; 16 nieces and nephews, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins, and his best friend, Irvin Eagle. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. C. Paul Higdon will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. George E. Wasey
"George E. Wasey, who has been an inmate at Oak Grove Sanitarium Flint, during the past four months, was found drowned in the Flint river about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. For some time the deceased had been despondent. For this reason, Dr. Burr, of the sanitarium, was very cautious and saw that his attendant was with him all the time. Tuesday afternoon Dr. George W. Washburn, pastor of the Garland street church, called at Oak Grove to see Mr. Wasey. The latter gentleman was sitting on the veranda of the institution when Rev. Mr. Washburn drove up with his horse and carriage. After a cordial salutation, something was said about taking a ride, and in a moment Mr. Wasey was in the carriage beside the reverend gentleman. When Dr. Burr learned what had occurred, he sent a special messenger after them. The messenger saw the rig containing Rev. Dr. Washburn and Mr. Wasey driving towards the institution, but before reaching the latter place Mr. Wasey expressed a desire to visit Avondale cemetery. The two men drove to the graveyard, which was only a few rods away, hitched the horse, and both left the buggy and visited several graves. After some time Mr. Washburn said to his companion that it was time to go, but Mr. Wasey seemed to want to hunger around some grave stones that struck his fancy, and he suggested to Mr. Washburn that he wait by a certain grave, until the doctor drove around. Mr. Washburn then became uneasy and hurried to get the carriage, but when he returned Mr. Wasey was nowhere to be seen. Mr. Washburn then drove to the institution and notified the authorities of this experience with his friend. Dr. Burr and several attended hastened to the cemetery and followed the track of Mr. Wasey to the river, which was only a few rods away. On the bank they found his overcoat, which told the tale of a watery grave. Boats were secured and a search for the body was instituted at once and after several hours of hard work it was found in ten feet of water. George E. Wasey was born in 1853 on a little farm a few miles back of this city. His father was killed in the war and George lived on the farm until 18 years of age. In 1871 he went to Detroit and entered the law profession. He became a member of the law firm of Clarke & Wasey, but gave up the practice to accept the position of manager of the Oscoda Salt & Lumber Co., with offices in Detroit. Mr. Wasey remained connected with the firm until 1884, when he severed his relations with it and entered the employ of M. J. Murphy & Co., chair manufacturers of Detroit, in the capacity of treasurer. About seven years ago the name of the corporation was changed to Murphy, Wasey & co. Twenty years ago this fall he married Anna Belle Whiting, a daughter of Col. Henry Whiting, and their married life had been a perfect one with everything tending to contentment and happiness. A more indulgent husband, father and son then Geo. E. Wasey never live. The devoted wife, three bright sons, Edward G. aged 18 years, who is employed in the State Savings bank; Louis, aged 14 years, and Albert, aged 7 years, a worshipping mother, Mrs. S. A. Clingo, of this city, and four brothers survive. Mr. Wasey was one of the leading members of the Cass Avenue Methodist church in Detroit. He was a man of wide intelligence and possessed of sterling character. The universal tribute paid him by the host of his friends in St. Clair is: 'He was one of the best and most generous of men.' He had become acquainted with Dr. Washburn while the latter was pastor in Detroit several years ago, since he went to Flint his affection for the doctor increased and he seemed very happy whenever he was with the latter, and wanted to go and take tea with the doctor and his family. His first symptoms of any mental trouble were in May or June. He suffered several losses in pine land interests in the south and took them too seriously. The physician at the sanitarium, however, had hopes that he would have recovered sufficiently by Thanksgiving to enable him to return to his family in Detroit. St. Clair friends went to Detroit this morning to attend the funeral."

Marcilla Wasey
"Marcilla Wasey, wife of William Wasey, was born in Ireland somewhere about the year 1827 and died at her home in this city Sunday, Feb. 21, 1892, aged 65 years. She lived in the place of her birth until she grew to womanhood when she went to Liverpool, England, afterwards coming to New York city. She came to St. Clair in the fall of 1854, and was married to Mr. Wasey, April 15, 1855. There were five children born to them only one of whom is living. The first child to die was Thomas aged eight months; the next William was drowned in St. Clair river and the last a daughter who died in Detroit. All these children died in the month of August. The funeral sermons of the first three children were preached by Rev. T. J. Joselyn who was pastor of the M. E. church in years 1858, 59, 60. The deceased had complained of a pain in her right side for past twelve years and for the past four years had been unable to lie on that side. She was confined to her bed five weeks before her death suffering greatly notwithstanding the fact that all that kind and loving hands could do to alleviate her pain was done. She was a member of the Catholic church and lived an honest, upright life loved and respected by all who knew her. Some few hours previous to her death she expressed the wish that she might see her children. They were sent for arriving about two hours before she died. She was greatly pleased and laid out some gift for each as a last token from one who was soon to pass beyond. She leaves a husband, a daughter and three grandchildren to mourn her death, but all feel that what is their loss is her gain. The funeral services were held last week Wednesday morning at the Catholic church and the remains laid beside her children in the Catholic cemetery."

"Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Mort Wass, 76, wife of Benjamin Wass, who died February in her home 511 Burns road, Kimball township, after a long illness, were held at the Arthur Smith funeral home in Port Huron, Tuesday. Very Rev. Dean Austin E. DuPlan, rector of Grace Episcopal church officiate. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Grandon , Ezra W. Mort, Evart, Mich., and John S. and James W. Mort, both of Port Huron; two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Wilson, Marysville, and Mrs. Cecil Buckner, Cleveland, O.; a stepson, Dr. Henry Wass, St. Clair; sixteen grandchildren; a brother; Vern A. Drill, Portland, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Mont Jeffery, Winchester, Ind."

Edna Elizabeth Waters
"Richmond - Edna Elizabeth Waters, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1990. She was born Oct. 30, 1904, in Richmond to Herman and Augusta Kuhen Schubert. She married Peter Waters Dec. 8, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Waters was a member of the Smiths Creek Community Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy and Barbara Rix, Archie and Darlyann Rix and Jerry and Joyce Rix; a son, Richard Rix.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and David Green and Margaret and James Blakely; a daughter, Donna Orrell; two stepsons, Richard and John Waters; two stepdaughters, Mary Lou Lee and Leann Waters; 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, sons, Robert and Donald Rix, stepson, Francis Waters, two grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Conger-Rewalt Funeral Home in Richmond. The Rev. Lars Hasper, pastor of the Smiths Creek Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. "Richmond - Peter O. Waters, 88, died Friday, April 23, 1988, at his home. He was born March 28, 1900, in Wales Township to Owen and Sarah Waters. He lived for two years in Richmond and 46 years in Smiths Creek. He married Edna Rix Dec. 8, 1949, in Toledo. Mr. Waters was an auto mechanic in the Smiths Creek area and was a member of Smiths Creek Community church. He was a member of Smiths Creek Lions Club. Surviving are his wife; sons, Francis of Lakeport, Richard E. of Port Huron and John H. of Emmett; daughters, Mary Lou Lee of Marysville and Leann Waters of Alaska; stepsons, Leroy H. Rix of Richmond, Archie Rix of Mount Clemens, Jerry Rix of Warren and Richard Charles Rix of Rochester; stepdaughters, Betty Green of Memphis, Margaret Blakely of Richmond and Donna Orrell of Richmond; 50 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Rix; brothers, Charles and Homes; and sisters, Leila Carrington, Isabelle McCarbory and Jesse Green. Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Conger-Rewalt Funeral Home, Richmond. The Rev. Hasper of Smiths Creek Community Church will officiate."

Arvid M. Watt
"St. Clair - Arvid M. Watt, age 67, a long time St. Clair resident, coach and teacher, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in Big Rapids. Arvid was born June 6, 1932, in Marion, Mich. He married Jacquelyn on Sept. 9, 1950. Arvid taught for 29 years, retiring from St. Clair High School in 1988. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan and his Master's from Wayne State University. As a basketball coach at St. Clair, his teams won six league championships and his 1959-1960 team was 16-0 and still stands as the only undefeated team in the school's history. In 1984, he was inducted into the Michigan Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Arvid was active in the community as a former member of the Recreation Commission, Booster Club and a leader of the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program. He is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn; sons, Doug and Marilyn of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Jon and Kathy of St. Clair; daughter, Angela and Jose' Rubio of Midland; a brother, LeRoy and Shirley of Holiday, Fla.; a sister, Sharon and Doug Cutler of Marion, Mich.; five grandchildren, Heather, Kristin, Jenna Lyn, Jalissa Watt and Noah Rubio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian, in 1994 and a sister, Bethel Grandy. Visitation is Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair, with burial in Hillside Cemetery. "Yale - Robert LaVern Weaver, 69, of Yale, died Saturday morning, Oct. 9, 1999 at Port Huron Hospital, where he had been a patient several days. He was born in Brown City on March 28, 1930, the son of the late LaVern Weaver and Hattie Young Weaver Neigebauer of Yale. His marriage to Glenna Jean Collins was Oct. 2, 1948. Her death occurred March 6, 1989. Bob and Opal Eagen were married in Lapeer Nov. 10, 1990. Surviving in addition to his wife, Opal, and mom, Hattie, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathie and Fred Weston of Lapeer, Barb and Norm McDonald of Grand Blanc and Robin and Willie Boom of North Branch; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Mike and Kathy Eagan of West Branch and Christie Eagan on Lansing; three stepgrandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances Weaver of Lapeer; brothers-in-law, Grant Collins of Marysville, Bud Huston of Florida and Joe Knable of Linden; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Preceding his death was a brother, James (1988), sister, Betty and step-father, Norm Neigebauer. Memorials are suggested to Michigan Special Olympics Chapter 13 or the Michigan Lung Association in lieu of flowers. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale with a memorial service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Sherry Parker of Dundee United Methodist Church will officiate."

Edna Grace Trueman Webb
"Algonac - Edna Grace Trueman Webb, 90, of Algonac, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, in St. John River District Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Detroit. She married George Webb. He died April 4, 1967. Edna was an orphaned daughter of a World War I veteran. She was raised at the VFW Home in Eaton Rapids. When Edna began her working career, she worked at Packard Motor Co. and ran one of the very first Xerox machines. Edna taught school as a teacher's aide while in Washington. She traveled to Hawaii and Japan, California and Washington state with her youngest daughter, who was in the U.S. Navy. Edna was active with the Cherry Beach Seniors Water Exercise group and was staying busy compiling a family genealogy with her extensive family. She is survived by her son, John (Carol) Webb; daughter, Lois (Gerald) Payette; sons, George (Melanie) Webb and Timothy (Pamela) Webb; daughter, Joanne Martinez U.S.N. Ret.; brother, Clarence (Velma) Trueman; 16 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac. Pastor Robert Wagner of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Fair Haven, will officiate. Visiting hours are 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday."

"Port Austin, Dec. 23 - Mrs. Anna Irene Webber, 70, wife of Edward Webber and former resident of the St. Clair River District, died today in Hubbard Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe, after an illness of a week. Born June 10, 1882, in Algonac, Mrs. Webber lived the last five years in Port Austin. She was the former Miss Anna Barenger. She is survived by her husband, and daughter, Mrs. Otto Wittkop, Port Austin a granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Eliza Bezenah, Port Huron, and four bothers, Hazen Barenger, Plymouth; Charles Barenger, St. Clair; Louis Barenger, in Ohio, and Henry Barenger, San Mateo, Calif. Remains will be removed today from Alden A. MacAlpine funeral home, Bad Axe, to Thomas R. Bower funeral home in St. Clair. Funeral services will be held in the bower funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. Frank Hartley, pastor of St. Clair Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at St. Clair."

Christine M. Weidenbach
"St. Clair, Jan. 4 - Miss Christine M. Weidenbaach, 76, died Monday at the home of her nephew and niece, Walter and Clarissa Engelgau, after a long illness. Miss Weidenbach was born Dec. 25, 1878 in St. Clair, daughter of the late Mary and Jacob Weidenbach, pioneer settlers in St. Clair. She is survived by her sister, Miss Theresa Weidenbach, St. Clair; two brothers, Fred Weidenbach, St. Clair, and Charles Weidenbach, Port Huron, and five nieces and nine nephews. Remains are in the home, 655 North Riverside, where funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic church, with Rev. Harold Kreutcher, assistant pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of L. C. Friederichs & Son funeral home. Rosary devotions will be held in the home at 8 p.m. Wednesday for the Rosary Society and at 8 p.m. Thursday for men of the parish. In place of the usual remembrances, friends are requested to make donations to the Michigan Heart Fund."

Caroline "Granny" Weis
"March 3, 1984 - Goodells — Caroline (Granny) Weis, 87, died March 3 in St. Joseph’s Hospital - East, Mount Clemens, after a short illness. She was born Sept. 29, 1896 in Illinois. She was the widow of Albert Weis, who died in April 1963. Mrs. Weis was a retired Chrysler Corp. employee of the Marysville plant. She had lived in Goodells since 1939. She is survived by two sons, Emmett Green, Illinois, and Hanry A. Weis, Memphis; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death two daughters and two sons. Funeral services were held march 6 in the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis. The Rev. Vincent P. Messina, pastor of Mount Pleasant Bible Church, officiated. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Wales Township."

Henry A. "Hank" Weis
"Memphis - Henry A. "Hank" Weis, age 66, of Memphis entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, Dec. 2,1999. He was born in Ecorse, Mich., on June 23, 1933, a son to Albert and Caroline Julia (Boyd) Weis. He married Louise Elizabeth Haslern in Richmond on May 8, 1953. Hank was a lifelong resident of Memphis. He was a graduate of Memphis High School, Class of 1952, and a member of the Alumni Association. He was employed by Reef Manufacturing and retired in June of 1995. He loved woodworking, enjoyed his family (especially his grandchildren), and liked watching his grandchildren as they participated in sports. Hank was inducted into the Memphis Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. He set the school record for the 100 yard dash which remains intact to this day. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He walked in the March of Dimes "Walk America" in Port Huron for six years. Surviving are his wife, Louise; son, Greg Weis Sr. of Memphis; daughters, Cathy (Greg) Fitz of Wales, Lynn (Randy) Teichow of Kimball, Donna (Dale) Bubel of Wales, Theresa Weis of Memphis and Diane (Earl Sr.) Bubel of Riley; grandchildren, Greg Weis Jr., Jeff Weis, Angie (Shawn) Nygaard, Brad Fitz, John and Josh Weis, Jason, Justin and Lindsay Teichow, Earl Bubel Ill and Katie Bubel, Becky (Steve) Bubel Proevski and Andrea, Adam and Alyssa Bubel; and brother, Emmett (Evelyn) Green of Godfrey, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis, followed by 11 a.m. Mass in All Saints Church with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Nowinski presiding. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visiting in the funeral home is Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the "wishes of the family."

Wellman, a lifelong resident of Kendall, died last evening in his home in that town after an illness of heart trouble with which he had been afflicted for about a year. Mr. Wellman was 73 years old and was born in the town of Kendall April 27, 1841, and had spent all his life there. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrenus Wellman. In 1863 he married Miss Jane Elwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Elwell, of Kendall, whose death occurred eleven years ago. In April 1865, he settled on the farm on which he died and had lived there for over fifty years. He held several local offices and was for two terms assessor of the town of Kendall and for two terms a supervisor from Kendall. He was a sta--ch Democrat, and a prominent farmer. He had been for many years a member of the masonic lodge of Kendall and of the Orleans Chapter, 175, Royal Arch Masons, of Albion. He leaves one son, Harry E. Wellman of Kendall; two grandchildren, Miss Anna R. Wellman, of Kendall, and Mrs. Fred M. Stevens, of Port Huron, Mich., and one great-grandson, Harry N. Stevens, of Port Huron. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from his late home and will be in charge of the Masons. Rev. L. D. Woodmaney, of Rochester, will officiate. Burial will be in Beachwood cemetery, West Kendall."

"Carl Welser 42, of St. Clair township, died at the University hospital in Ann Arbor Sunday afternoon. Mr. Welser had been ill for some time with Bright's disease and had been taking treatments at Ann Arbor. Mr. Welser is survived by his widow and seven children, five boys and two girls, the eldest nine years and the youngest three months; three brothers William, John and Simon of this city; five sisters, Mrs. John Mau, Mrs. Harry Crawford of this city. Mrs. Fred Linderman of Detroit, Mrs. Herman Muller and Mrs. Barbara Teukhan [Tinkham]. The body was brought here Monday for burial to the home of his sister, Mrs. John Mau. The funeral was held from the Immanuel Lutheran church Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. George P. Hildner offficiating. Burial was made in Hillside cemetery."

Matthew Welser
"Matthew Welser, a resident of St. Clair for thirty-eight years, died last Saturday of Bright's disease, aged sixty-two years. The deceased was born in Oberinggen, Germany in 1831, and came to this country in 1855, taking up his residence in St. Clair immediately. In the year 1865 he married Miss Sophia Stein by whom he has had nine children, William, John, Charles, Simon, Sophia and Barbara Welser, Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Fred Lindeman and Mrs. Moeller, all of whom survive him. Mr. Welser was buried from the Lutheran church of which he had been a member for many years, Tuesday afternoon."

Sophia Amelia Welser
"Sophia Amelia Stein, daughter of Michael and Anna Elizabeth Kroeck Stein, was born on June 2nd, 1844, at Oberellen, Saxon, Germany. She was the youngest of nine children and was the last of the family to be called to her heavenly home. In 1853, at the age of nine years, she came with her parents to this country, coming to St. Clair where the remainder of her life has been spent. On May 9, 1865, she was united in marriage to Mr. Mathias Welser in this city. This happy companionship continued until Dec. 16th 1893, when Mr. Welser was taken by death. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Welser, nine of whom are living. These are Mrs. H.W. Moeller and Mrs. H.R. Tinkham of Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. F.L. Lindeman of Detroit; Mrs. John Mau, Mrs. Mary Crawford, William, John, Carl H. and Simon all of St. Clair. Mrs. Welser fell asleep Easter afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Mau of S. Second St. this city, with whom she had been spending the past month. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 10th, 1844, at Oberellen, Germany, and was confirmed in the same faith at Newport (now Marine City) on May 27th, 1860. Throughout her life she remained faithful to her confirmation vow and was an earnest Christian, devoted to her church and to good works. She was a regular attendant at the services of Immanual Lutheran church of which she was a member up until within a month of her death. Besides her children mentioned above, Mrs. Welser is survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and seven great grand children. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Immanual Lutheran church, Rev. A. ?uggazer officiating. A brief service at 2:00 o'clock at the home of Mrs. John Mau preceded the service at the church. Burial was in Hillside cemetery."

"Port Huron - Barbara B. Werden, 97, of Port Huron, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in the Faith Medical Center. She was born March 5, 1903, in Inverurie, Scotland, and had lived in the Port Huron area since 1968. She married Albert H. Werden Sr. in Toronto, Ontario, in 1927. He died in 1939. Mrs. Werden was a self-employed beautician. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Sarah Circle. She was past president of the 59er's, a life member of Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary and was active in various senior citizen activities. She is survived by a son, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Colletta) Werden Jr. of Marine City; four grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Scott (Carol) Werden, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn (Barbara) Markel, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick (Cheryl) Werden, and Mr. and Mrs. Matthew (Penny) Werden; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Belle Mason of Leeds, England; and several nieces and nephews in both Canada and Britain. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan S. Werden; four brothers; and a sister. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. Dr. Mark P. Thomas of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church."

He was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Croswell, son of the late Martin and Frances (Leonard) West. He and Kay L. French were married Nov. 3, 1957, in Port Huron. Mr. West was a professional painter and a Michigan Sugar Co. employee. Surviving are his wife, Kay; six daughters, Gwen (Tyler) DuCharme of Lexington, Mari (Norm) Atkinson of Croswell, Rene Jorn) Allen and Stephanie (Bob) Smith, all of Port Huron, Stacy (Paul) Bfitz of Bay City and Tina West of Croswell; five brothers ,Edward and Bernard both of Port Huron. "St. Clair - Agnes Westrick, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1981, in River District Hospital after a short illness. She was born March 13, 1899, in Huron County. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its rosary society. She married Julius Westrick Oct. 12, 1920, in Ruth. He died Oct. 24, 1969. Mrs. Westrick is survived by four sons, Russell, Merle, Harold and Robert, all of St. Clair; two brothers, John Selke, Harbor Beach, and William Selke, Grand Rapids; five sisters, August Pauly, St. Clair, Clara Hunter, Detroit, Frances Selke, Mount Clemens, Helen Pears, Dearborn Heights, and Ester Selke, Detroit; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great -grandchildren. "Mrs. John Westrick, nee Catharine Schunck, died Tuesday morning at the home of her son Walter in China. The deceased was 64 years of age and was the mother of eight children, seven of whom are living. Her surviving children are Henry, Nicholas, Michael, Lottie now Mrs. Wm Foss, William Katie and Walter. Of the above Mrs. Foss resides in Port Huron, Katie is married and lives in Armada, and the remainder in China. Louis is dead. Mr. Westrick, the father of this family died about ten years ago. Deceased was a member of the M. E. church and very much esteemed by her associates. The funeral was held from the M. R. church in China yesterday afternoon and conducted by Rev. W.A. Tripp. The remains were taken to the Balfour cemetery for interment."

Mrs. Westrick was born Aug. 20, 1873, in St. Clair Township. She was a member of the rosary society of St. Mary's Catholic church, and the Rural Ladies society of that church. She is survived by two sons, Julius and Clarence, both of St. Clair; a daughter, Mrs. Reinhold Simons, St. Clair; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the L. C. Friederichs & Son funeral home and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Edward J. Kromenaker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cementery. The remains are in the funeral home where the Rosary will be recited by the men of the parish at 8 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Bernard LaBelle, assistant pastor, will lead the devoton. The members of the Rosary society and the Rural Ladies society will meet at 8 p.m. Sunday for Rosary services."

"Marine City, June 16 - Elzera B. Westrick, 60, of 217 Jefferson street, owner and operator of a building contractor's supply house here, died early today in St. Joseph's Hospital, Mt. Clemens, following an illness of seven months. Mr. Westrick was born Aug. 21, 1890 in Marine City, and he and Rose Distelrath were married Feb. 12, 1912 in Marine City. He and his father, Charles A. Westrick, started the supply business at its present address, 119 South Water street, in 1905. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic church and a member of the Holy Name society of that parish. He is survived by his widow; a son, Gordon Westrick; a daughter, Helen Westrick, all of marine city; two brothers, Clarence Westrick, Marine city, and Warner J. Westrick, Grosse Pointe, and two grandchildren. The remains are in the A. Friederichs & son funeral home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and at 9 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic church. Rev. Walter J. Rottach, pastor, will be celebrant of the Solemn Requiem High Mass. the other officiating priests will be announced later. Pallbearers, all nephews of Mr. Westrick, are Donald Burns, Donald Cottrell, Harold Bammel, Eugene Bammel, Robert Westrick and Robert Trager, all of Marine City. "St. Clair - James F. "Slim" Westrick Jr., 56, of St. Clair died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, after a courageous battle that began 22 years ago with brain cancer. He was born April 14, 1944, to James Westrick Sr. and the late Frances Nugent Westrick. "Slim" was a member of Laborers Local 463 and the St. Clair Knights of Columbus Council 2251. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Allyson Westrick; daughters and son-in-law, Beth and Stephen Griffor and Michele Westrick; father, James Westrick Sr., and his wife, Arlene; his brother, William and Joann Westrick; his sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Steven Kivel; his grandsons, Jordan Griffor and Tanner Westrick; his granddaughters, Amanda Westrick and Sydney Griffor; his nephews, William Westrick Jr. and Christopher Kivel; his nieces, Emily and Camryn Kivel; and his aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; sister, Sharon Ann; special aunt, Elizabeth "Betty Minton; and lifelong friends, Dennis "Olie" Mead and William "Monch" Monchau. Mrs. Westrick previously lived in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Babel, 546 Jefferson street. She was born Jan. 28, 1871 in Dresdon, Ont. She and Mr. Westrick were married Nov. 12, 1895. "St. Clair, Dec. 13 - Miss. Louise Westrick, 67, of 548 North Fifth street, died Wednesday in Mt. Clemens General Hospital after a long illness. Miss Westrick was born in China township, March 20, 1884. She moved to St. Clair with her parents in 1906. After working at Diamond Crystal-colonial Salt company, she moved to Detroit where she lived until five years ago She then returned to St. Clair to live with her brother, Alfred D. Westrick, who died recently. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Margaret I. Huffmaster, St. Clair; Mrs. Caroline A. Krantz, and Mrs. Alice VanCuren, Detroit, and a brother, Herbert Westrick, Detroit. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in L. C. Friederichs & Son funeral home and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church. Solemn Requiem High Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Edward J. Kromenaker, pastor of St. Mary' s Catholic church, in the church. Rev. Bernard LaBelle, assistant pastor, will be deacon, and Rev. Francis Granger, assistant pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City will be sub-deacon. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. "Armada, June 5 - Funeral services were held today in the A. M. Tiffany chapel for Mrs. Mattie Westrick, 82, widow of the late E. N. Westrick, who died Monday in the home of a stepdaughter, Mrs. Edan Matuschek, Flint. Rev. Percy L. Graham, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated, and burial was in Willow Grove Cemetery, Armada. Daughter of the late William and Cynthia Francis, she was born Nov. 12, 1870, near Oxford. She was married to Frank Cudworth, Armada, and they lived on a farm south of Armada until his death. She was married to E. N. Westrick, Armada, 32 years ago, and they lived here until his death Oct. 28, 1951. She went to Flint the last of November to live with Mr. and Mrs. Matuschek. She was a member of Armada Rebakah lodge No. 215, the Macomb County Past Noble association, a member of Armada Congregational church and its Women’s Fellowship. Surviving is her step-daughter, Mrs. Matuschek and a nephew, Francis Shipman, Oxford, and two cousins."

He was born Oct. 2, 1902, in China Township, where he was a lifelong resident. He married Mary Theresa Snider Nov. 20, 1924, in St. Clair. She died Nov. 27, 1971. Mr. Westrick was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic church, St. Clair. He was a former member of the St. Clair Council Knights of Columbus. He is survived by 11 sons, Raymond, Leo, Kenneth, Edward, Ervin, Vern, Marvin and Jack Westrick, all of St. Clair; Alvoy and Alfred Westrick, both of Marine City, and Lloyd Westrick, Richmond; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Cooley and Mrs. Kathleen Distelrath, both of St. Clair; three brothers, Ervin Westrick, Marine City, and Alvin and Harvey Westrick Sr., both of St. Clair; three sisters, Mrs. Paul Zimmer, Mrs. Louis Niebauer and Mrs. Stanley Niebauer, all of St. Clair; 46 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Mary Rockwell, St. Clair; a son Marvin Westrick, Detroit; and a sister, Mrs Theresa Varyser, East Detroit; a brother Peter Gassman, Detroit, and five grandchildren. "Walter Westrick, 64, of 1013 Richardson street, resident of Port Huron 28 years, died unexpectedly Friday in Port Huron Hospital. An employe of the Detroit Edison company 23 years, he became sick while at work Friday afternoon. He died a few hours later in the Hospital. Mr. Westrick was born May 27, 1885 in St. Clair. He married May Taylor Nov. 23, 1905, in Memphis. He is survived by his widow; a son, John W. Westrick; and three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Minor, Mrs. Sherwood Mugridge, and Mrs. Robert Vanderlake, all of Port Huron; two brothers, E. M. Westrick, Armada, and William Westrick, Marine City, and 11 grandchildren. A daughter, Mr. Robert Ellington, died May 24, 1936. Mr. Westrick was a member of Fort Gratiot lodge No. 374, F. & A.M. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Arthur Smith funeral home. Rev. E. H. Soderberg, pastor of Washington Avenue Methodist church, will officiate. "Marine City, June 20 - William A. Westrick, 77, of 244 Robertson street, a native of this area, died unexpectedly early today in his home of heart disease. He was born Aug. 7, 1876, in China Township, son the the late Mr. and Mrs. John Westrick, pioneer residents. He married Miss Gertrude Alleman, St. Clair, Feb. 11, 1902. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Westrick is survived by his widow, a son, Alleman J. Westrick, Marine City employe; a daughter, Mrs. Calista McRae, Detroit, and three grandchildren. He was employed by the Detroit Rapid Railway for 29 years and was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Cross Catholic church. Remains are in the A. Friederichs funeral home where funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Services also will be held a half hour later in Holy Cross church. Rev. Walter J. Rottach, pastor of Holy Cross church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary' Cemetery, St. Clair."

"Mrs. Myrtle Mabel Esther Wheelihan, 60, wife of Charles M. Wheelihan, local coal dealer, and lifelong resident of Port Huron, died Wednesday night in her home, 3319 North Boulevard, after an illness of two weeks. She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Dunn, Lake Montcalm, Mich.; Mrs. Frank Helm, Detroit; and Mrs. Julia Wise, Port Huron; five sons, Harold Wheelihan, James Wheelihan, David Wheelihan, Gaylord Wheelihan, and Frank Wheelihan, all of Port Huron; a sister, Mrs. Z. B. Chase, Davis, Mich.; two brothers, Frank A. Smith, Flint; and Gaylord M. Smith, Toledo; an aunt Mrs. George Taylor, Port Huron; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm Friday in the Downs Funeral Home. Rev. H.H. Davis, pastor of First Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Mrs. Wheelihan was born in Port Huron, June 22, 1875. She married Charles McIntosh Wheelihan in 1893. She was a member of Court Sinclair, No 916, The Forresters, and the Maccabees. The remains will be in the family residence until noon Friday, when they will be taken to the funeral home."

Mr. Whipple was a senior at St. Clair High School and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Muttonville. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Pat and Rick Strauchman; father, Larry Whipple Jr.; a brother, Kevin Whipple; a stepbrother, Trevis Strauchman; two stepsisters, Khrystyne Whipple and Tammy Strauchman; grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy Whipple, Angeline and William Ehrke, and Marilyn and Richard Stauchman. She was born Dec. 30, 1905, in St. Joseph, Ill., the daughter of the late Asa G. and Winifred Ward Ollis. Her marriage to Dale R. White was July 9, 1923, in Urbana, Ill. His death was Dec. 27, 1964. Elizabeth was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, walking and playing the piano. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin G. and Angela White of West Branch and Jerry D. and Loretta White of Yale; 17 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; her brother, George Ollis of North Street; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her death were young daughters, Marjorie and Alice; her son, Edward; brothers, Clarence, Grant and James; sisters, Katie, Myrtle, Rosey, Jenny, Ruby and Eleanora; grandson, Melvin White Jr.; and great granddaughter, Cheryl White. "East China - Marietta Jean Whitesell, age 68, of East China went to be with her Lord on Holy Thursday, April 20, 2000. She was born in Detroit on April 11, 1932, a daughter to Harry Edward and Marcelle (Johns) Price. She married Bruce Whitesell Jr. on March 24, 1951, in Marine City. Marietta enjoyed her family along with playing bingo and following the Detroit Red Wings. Surviving are her husband, Bruce; children, Steven (Mary) of New Baltimore, Christine (Tony) Conyers of Marine City and Marcia (Stephen) Webster and David Whitesell, all of Port Huron; nine grandchildren, Jessie, Jean, Steven and Sarah Joan Whitesell, Kristen, Crystal and Tony Ray Conyers, Christina Horvath, and Stephen and Nicholas Bruce Webster; brother, Alex E. "Mrs. Almira Whiting, aged 80 years, died Wednesday evening at her home, 524 Fort Street, Mrs. Whiting, who was the widow of the late William Whiting, had resided in Port Huron for 51 years, and during the greater part of that time she had been an active member of the First M.E. Church. Eight children survive: James H., Chauncy H., Mrs George W. Hall, and Mrs. F. H. Hildebrand, of Port Huron; Edward E., Port Austin, and Mrs. Lillian A. Shoup, Fort Wayne, Ind. Three sisters and a brother of Mrs. Whiting also survive: Mrs. E. Malton, Toronto, Ont., Mrs. M. Chinnick, Port Huron, and Jesse Jones, Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Whiting had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place Saturday, at 2:30 p.m. from the home. Rev. W.J. Balmer will officiate. Interment will be made in Lakeside cemetery."

Edward Whiting
"Railman Killed by Freight Cars - Conductor Whiting, Popular, To Be Buried In Port Huron - Harbor Beach, Octo. 18 -- Edward Whiting, 64, conductor, and employed by the Pere Marquette railroad company 44 years, since the rail line was built to the Thumb, was struck by two freight cars at 2:30 p.m. in the yards here, while a freight train was switching cars. And he died in the Harbor Beach hospital two hours later. The freight cars ran over his body, it was said, when he became confused in the dark as he directed the movement of the freight switching crew. He stepped onto the wrong track. He was conductor of the train, which runs from Port Austin to this city. Funeral services will be held at the home in Port/Austin Wednesday, with burial in Lakeside cemetery, Port Huron, Thursday. Relatives in Port Huron. He is survived by his widow, Nellie' son, Jesse E. Whiting, by a previous marriage. Port Huron: brother, Chauncey H. Whiting, Port Huron: three sisters, Mrs. Frank H. Hildebrand and Mrs. George W. Hall, both Port Huron, and Mrs. L. A. Shout, Miami, Fla. Mr. Whiting was born in Lakeport in April 1863. He had been employed by the Pere Marquette 44 years as a freight and passenger brakeman and conductor. Although he was living in Port Austin at the time of his death, he had lived in Port Huron many years. - Served Many Years - He was one of the best-known conductors in the Thumb, becoming universally acquainted with the public through his long years in the railroad service. Later, he moved to Harbor Beech from Port Huron where he lived many years and about one year ago, because of a change in his railroad duties move to Port Austin. Recently with the advent of paved roads and heavy truck service, passenger and freight train services were combined. Mr. Whiting was in charge of the train service from Port Austin to this city."

Emily Owen Whiting
"Mrs. Emily Owen Whiting - A day beautified by the re-awakening of nature was saddened for the entire St. Clair community because of the passing from this life and the re-wakening of the soul of Emily Owen Whiting, wife of Hon. Justin R. Whiting, beyond that 'portal we call death.' The death of Mrs. Whiting occurred early Tuesday morning from an hemorrhage of the brain, she being ill less than an hour. The suddenness of the death summons came as an especial shock to the hundreds of friends here whose hearts are deeply stirred. With a zest of good health and spirits, Mrs. Whiting spent Monday evening calling upon friends. She rested well during the night and was dressing for breakfast Tuesday morning when whe suffered the attack from which she never rallied. She lost consciousness almost immediately; an hour after she had been happily chatting with Mr. Whiting she had sank into dreamless sleep. In October 1897, Mrs. Whiting suffered an inital stroke of apoplexy and was ill for several months, but during the past year she had enjoyed her old-time vigor and was again active in her achievements for the comfort and happiness of those in the community where this noble life was lived. No person in this part of the state has ever been more highly esteemed or better revered, and none will be more sincerely mourned. Nor will the deep regret of her passing away find its limit in this community, but, extending as far as the knowledge and love of this generous woman had fourn its way, will move thousands of hearts to sadness. It seemed to be the one purpose of this exceptional woman's life to devote it to the interest of others, whether in disbursements of charities, public or private, to energetic aspirants in the arts or professions, of for the adornment or improvements of our city or its surroundings. She never wasted her time, utilizing all her moments in marvelous activity for those around her, so that her life is not measured by days but by the good she has done. Mrs. Whiting was richly equipped in the gifts of mind, broad in her information, interested in very many things, yet her education in nowise affected the fresh and genial spirit born in her. She had a profound sympathy with nature; it could not be otherwise with one who was ever scattering the bounties which a liberal heart dictated. The flowers, the scrubs and the fruits that will blossom and ripen in the years to come will carry the fragrance and worth of her true nature and serve as a monument better than can be inscribed in marble or expressed in words. She was not unlike that sainted woman whose niece she was proud to be, 'Aunt Emily Ward,' in her generous nature. And who in Michigan does not revere the memory of Aunt Emily Ward, that truly wonderful woman. Mrs. Whiting was born in Marine City September 11, 1847, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Abba Ward Owen. Her mother was a sister of Captain Eber Brock Ward and 'Aunt Emily' Ward. The remaining members of this family are Tubal C. Owen, of Ypsilanti. Dr. Orville W. Owen, of Detroit, and Mrs. O. W. Potter, of Chicago. The marriage of Emily Owen to Justin R. Whiting was solemnized in 1868, the thirty-second anniversary of their marriage having been happily celebrated April 30. three sons, John P., Bruce F. and Justin R., Jr., and five daughters, Mrs. H. A. Hopkins, Mrs. E. J. Ottaway, Nellie, Rosamonde and Frances Witing are now to miss a faithful mother's devotion. Mrs. and Mrs. E. J. Ottaway have arrived from Washington, D. C. The funeral will be held from the residence Friday aftenoon at 2 o'clock. Sorrow is not to be stayed by reason; the passing beyond of a soul may be as essential as life itself in the great scheme of the Creator; the Omnipotent makes answer to none as to the mystery of His ways, but grief must find expression upon the occasion of so general a bereavement, and all will lament with heart and voice the calling of one so profoundly esteemed."

"THE LATE JOHN WHITING. - The death of this young man, or of Col. Henry Whiting of St. Clair, has caused great regret and sorrow among those who knew him. He was connected with the Lake Survey, and quite a number of his friends in Detroit and elsewhere came up to St. Clair to his funeral. We found in the Detroit papers the following prepared by his associates in the Lake Survey - John Whiting, whose kind and affectionate disposition, and sprightness of character had endeared him to us all, and whose studious habits and well-balanced mind gave promise of a manhood of more than ordinary ability, has by the decree of our All-Wise Providence been taken from us. Only twice before had death invaded our circle, and we are now called to mourn one of the youngest of our number. Two months since he left in the full vigor of health, and is now brought back only in time to die at home. - 'Like dew on the mountain, like the foam on the river, Like the bubbles on the fountain, He is gone and forever.' At a meeting of the Lake Survey Assistants now in the city the following resolution was offered and adopted - Resolved, - That we tender our heartfelt sympathies to the afflicted parents of our former associate, John Whiting, and that we would mourn with them one whose death we feel as a loss not only to them and ourselves, but to the country."

"Tuscon, Az. - Eleanor May Flannigan Whitmore, age 85, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in her home in Tucson, Az. She was born March 18, 1915, in Snover to Thomas and Pearl (Eastman) Flannigan. She married Walter Whitmore Nov. 19, 1932. He died Aug. 7, 1996. Elenore lived in Croswell, Auburn, In., and Sullivan, Ohio, before moving to Tucson. Survivors include two daughters and a son, Dorothy and Bob Cameron of Tucson, Nancie and Ed Elliot of Benson, Az., and Walter (Rip) and Judy Whitmore of Wellington, Ohio. One brother, William (Dixie) Flannigan of Lexington, also survives. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be at a later date in Tucson."

He was born April 14, 1913, in Cleveland, a son of the late Walter and Bessie Widdows and was a longtime area resident. He married Ina C. Gordon Sept. 9, 1966, in Port Huron. She died March 21, 1987. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He retired from Mueller Brass Co. after 32 years of service. He was a member of Marysville American Legion Post 449. He enjoyed mortorcycling and golf. "St. Clair - Arthur Wilde, 73, died Tuesday, March 25, 1986, in River District Hospital. He was born in Detroit . He married Katherine Marko. Mr. Wilde was owner of the Tromley Bar, Snyderville. He was past president of Local Union 140. He is survived by his wife; and four sisters. Edythe Ogden, Westland, Anne Sisk and Elizabeth Wilde, both of Harper Woods, and Gladys Williams, Royal Oak. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Pastor F. Richard Pickelhaupt of Holy Cross Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery."

"Wilde was devoted to St. Clair - by Bill Bunn - St. Clair - Friends describe Art Wilde as a self-made self-taught person who was dedicated to justice for the common man. Wilde, 73, who died Tuesday, served on the City Council from 1975 to 1977 and was appointed for a year in 1982. "He was very devoted to the city of St. Clair." said former Mayor John Cummings, now a St. Clair County District Court judge. "He studied the charter very closely and was a real believer in it," Cummings said. "He did all that he could as a councilman to see that it was implemented. "When he was appointed to a board or commission, you could be sure the job was well-covered. "He would cut through red tape and get to the heart of a problem very quickly. And, uncannily, he could come up with a solution that was agreeable to both sides." Cummings attributed Wilde's skills in part to his United Auto Workers training. He worked his way up from steward to president of Local 140 at the Dodge Truck Plant, Detroit. "Art was a very direct person," Cummings said. "Everything about him was up-front. He appeared to be gruff and kind of surly, but he was a teddy bear. Wilde, who was born in Detroit, also served for several summers as tender of the M-29 bridge over the Pine river. He owned the County Inn, formerly the Tromley Bar, for about 10 years. "His concern was always what was best for people as individuals," said the Rev. Franklin P. Bennett Jr., rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Bennett, chairman of the commission that drew up the city's current charter, said Wilde "had a passionate concern for justice to ordinary people, whether it was on a city issue or a union issue." "He was a person who understood pain--I mean the pain of a lost job or a lost opportunity or a lost hope," Bennett said. "But Wilde also was consistently cheerful, Bennett said. "He had a wonderful fund of good stories. He rejoiced in the fellowship of his wife," the former Katherine Marko, "and of his friends."

"Port Huron - Mrs. Grace A. Wilks, 93, of 1013 Church, died Friday in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness. She was born April 1, 1881, in Port Huron, and lived here all her life. Her husband, Reuben J. Wilks, died Jan. 12, 1965. Mrs. Wilks was a lifelong member of Gratiot Park United Methodist Church and a charter member of the W.S.C.S. of the church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gertrude L. Kruger, Port Huron; a brother, Ira T. Cole, Detroit, and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Marguerite Agnew, Port Huron. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Arthur Smith Funeral Home. Rev. Lloyd E. Christler, pastor of Gratiot Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Harold Agnew, Howard MacPherson, Harvey Woolman, Howard Crawford, Newell Morgan and Rev. Earl Greer will be pallbearers. The remains are in the funeral home."

"St. Clair — Alice R. Williams, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1993. She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Marine City. She married Marvin Williams Oct. 26, 1946. Mrs. Williams was a member of the VFW Post 3129 Auxiliary in Marine City. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Marvin; five sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Diane Williams Jr. of Port Huron, Al and Judy Williams of Goodells, Robert and Jamie Williams of Bonita Springs, Fla., Donald Williams and Larry and Kathy Williams and daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Currier, all of St.Clair; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six brothers, Melvin, Lavern, Walt, Harold, Fred and Maynard Smith; and two sisters, Irene Bisconer and Helen Wuestenberg. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the L. C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home in St. Clair. The Rev. John Naile will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Pfc. Dewayne T. Williams
"May 4, 1985 - In 1968, Pfc. Dewayne T. Williams smothered an enemy grenade with his body to save fellow Marines in Vietnam. Soon, a ship bearing the name of the Medal of Honor winner will be aiding other Marines. Williams' mother and other family members will travel to Quincy, Mass., later this month for the christening of the Dewayne T. Williams. Williams, who died in Vietnam on his 19th birthday, attended St. Clair and Capac high schools. His family was living in St. Clair Township when he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on his 18th birthday. His mother, Rosemary Williams, now of Grayling, will do the christening honors May 18 with all six of Dewayne's brothers and sisters at her side. All together, a dozen family members will attend the ceremony. "I'll probably have tears in my eyes, but I'll be happy at the same time," Rosemary Williams said. Williams also has been honored by the Michigan Department of Transportation, which named the new I-69 link between Port Huron and Lapeer the Dewayne T. Williams Memorial Highway. One sister, Joyce Schuyler of Goodells, said the honors bestowed on her brother have been a tremendous source of pride for the family. "He was like an idol to me and I still feel I look up to him." Schuyler said. "Even my children, who never met hem,
say "that's my uncle Dewayne's highway. They've learned to look up to him, too." Howard C. Williams Sr., father of the seven Williams children, died in 1980. "He didn't know about the ship, but he would have been highly honored," Schuyler said. "He was awfully proud about the highway." The ship Rosemary Williams will christen is among 13 to be named for deceased Medal of Honor winners who served in the Marine Corps from the 1900 Boxer Rebellion in China to the Vietnam War. As part of the U. S. military's Rapid Deployment force, the vessels will be stationed around the globe with supplies to support amphibious marine operations in areas where conflicts might break out. General Dynamics Corp., which is building the ships, will fly the Williams family to Quincy on May 17. The next day they will attend the ceremony, a reception and dinner, and then will be flown back home."

"St. Clair, June 25 - Mrs. Elizabeth McMullen Williams, 82, of 316 South Tenth street, widow of H. E. Williams, passed on early today in Port Huron Hospital after a year's illness. She was born May 3, 1871, daughter of the late John and Ellen McMullen. She was a sister of the late William McMullen and Mrs. Mae Hartlein, both of St. Clair. Mrs. Williams resided in Detroit for 50 years before coming here in 1951 to live with her sister. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. William Emig, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel McMullen, both of St. Clair. Remains are in the T. R. Bower funeral home where Christian Science services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, V. O. Cram, Port Huron, will be the reader in charge. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery."

"Port Huron - George R. "Robin" Williams, 48, of Port Huron, formerly of Algonac, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in Lexington. He was born June 3, 1951 in Mount Clemens. He married Luanna "Sue" Chesney on Aug. 7, 1971 in Algonac. He was a Vietnam War Veteran. He attended Algonac High School and St. Clair County Community College. He was a past member of Algonac VFW Post 3901. He managed different Kentucky Fried Chicken Stores. He is survived by his wife, Luanna "Sue"; his sons, James (Lindsay) Williams, Jeremy and Jeffery Williams; his mother, Barbara Lewis; his brothers David Hall, Darryl Hall and Ross (Diana) Lewis; his mother-in-law, Viva Chesney; his sister-in-law, Pam Peffers; his brothers-in-law, Gary Chesney and Bill Chesney; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and most wonderful friends, Bill and Della Caudill. He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Lewis, in 1991, and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999 in Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac. The Rev. Dorcas Reliford will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visiting hours are 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday."

She retired in 1974 after 31 years with the Chrysler Corp. in Marysville and Centerline. She married Roger J. Williams May 19, 1961, in Port Huron Township. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Hilayne Cavanaugh, Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Martha Cross, Goleta, Calif.; two brothers, John and Clayton Chapman, both of St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, with the Rev. William R. Burns, Westhaven Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in sunset Memorial Garden. "St. Clair, Feb. 16 - Joseph H. Williams, 89, well-known retired St. Clair grocer, died early today in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Morgan A. Doe, Port Huron, after a short illness. A lifelong resident of this vicinity, Mr. Williams was born Jan. 24, 1863 in St. Clair Township. He operated a grocery store in Marysville for several years before building a store in St. Clair in 1897. He retired 25 years ago. He is a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic church. Mr. Williams is survived by his widow, Theresa; three sons, Walter, Ernest and Arthur Williams, all of St. Clair; six daughters, Mrs. Doe, Mrs. Simon Stephenson, St. Clair; Mrs. Arthur J. Oatman and Mrs. Edward DeRush, both of Detroit; Mrs. Julius Rogers and Mrs. Martin Garriack, both of Marine City, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the L. C. Friederichs & Son funeral home, St. Clair, and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s church with Rev. Edward J. Kromenaker, pastor, officiating. She was born in Kimball Township on Feb. 9, 1931, the daughter of Clyde and Beth (Dingman) Smith. She was a waitress for 20 years and worked for 10 years at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. RoseMary married Howard C. Williams on Feb. 12, 1949 in St. Mary's Church, St. Clair. She was the loving mother and grandmother of those who survive her. She is survived by daughters, Penny (tom) Meinhardt, Joyce (Larry) Baldwin, Loraine (David) Chemin, all of the Port Huron area, Diane Walker (Gary) Cross) of Commerce Township and Janice Neiderer of Grayling; her son, Howard (Judy) Williams of Richmond; her grandchildren, Jeanette LaVigne, Marsha, Tom and Kristy Meinhardt, Norman Schuyler, Marie Eagle, Wayne Baldwin, Kimberly Evans, Jennifer Lashbrook, April Walker, Richard Neiderer, David, Brian and William Chemin; along with 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews; sisters, June Collins of Avoca and Betty of Lapeer; and brothers, David of Lapeer and Keith of Arizona City, Ariz. "Algonac - John Rutherford Wingo, 72, of Algonac died Friday, June 2, 2000, in River District Hospital. He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Detroit. He married Clyda Belle William on Nov. 14, 1950, in Angola, Ind. He was a 1962 graduate of Wayne State University. He played baseball for the New York Yankees minor league farm system. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He worked for the city of Detroit recreation department for 30 years. He was born Sept. 5, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Emily Winward. He enjoyed his work and the people at the Northport Complex. He was also an avid reader and fisherman. She married Fredrick G. Lewis Feb. 4, 1939. He died Jan. 2, 1964. She married Clinton Wiswell Aug. 23, 1969. Mrs. Wisswell retired from St. Clair Plastics Co., Marine City, in 1974. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Gillette, Kalamazoo; and a sister. Mrs. Louse Erdman, St. Clair. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair Highway Chapel. The Rev. Horace B. Loomis of First Congregational Church, St. Clair, will officiate. "A.L. Witherel Passes Away - Former City Clerk Became Ill On Thanksgiving Day - Alvah L. Witherel passed away at 12:30 this morning, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Don McPhee, 920 Richardson street, with whom he had made his home for several years. Mr. Witherel's death followed an illness of a little over two months, he having had to take to his bed shortly after Thanksgiving day when he became ill. He was 51 years of age. Mr. Witherel was born and raised in Port Huron and had many friends. During his younger life he was particularly active in politics, he having at one time, acted in the capacity of city clerk. He held this office for a period of two terms. Since that time he has been engaged in different business occupations here. Mr. Witherel's death occurred on his mother's 70th birthday. She died some years ago. His wife passed away just five years ago. Left to mourn his death are a daughter, Mrs. Blake MacSherry, of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Don McPhee, of this city; a brother, H. J. Witherel, of Detroit, and an adopted brother, Harry Davis of this city. Funeral announcement will be made later."

Mrs. Witherell was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Runnels and a sister of C. N. Runnels, of the Commercial bank. She leaves a husband and one daughter Miss Mary Fayram. "Port Huron - Mr. Joseph Alfred Wohadlo, 71, of Port Huron died Monday, August 14, 2000, in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was born February 27, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Penn., to the late Joseph and Rose (Piekielek) Wohadlo. He married Glenda Marie Barslund on May 10, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Wohadlo retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; a son, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. (Sybil) Wohadlo of Port Huron; a daughter, Marie Wohadlo of Chicago; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Coady and Alexander Wohadlo; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Joseph (Elizabeth) Wohadlo of Poland; a nephew, Luke; a niece, Anna, both of Poland; and special friends, Al and Joanne Barth. Fraser, both of Port Huron; Mrs. Irene Florey, Midland; Mrs. Grace Grzybowski, Detorit; Mrs. Alverettta Weymouth, St. Clair Township, and Mrs. Donna J. Hardy, Newgerry, and 27 grandchildren. "Hiram Wolfe, age 73, retired farmer and resident of the Jeddo area all his life, died Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Blaszczuk, 7435 Jeddo road, Grant Township, after a brief illness. Mr. Wolfe was born in Grant Township, Aug. 1, 1874. Mrs. Wolfe died Jan. 29, 1941. He is survived by two sons, Lee H. Wolfe, Jeddo, and Earl W. Wolfe, Port Huron; eight daughters, Mrs. Isaac R. Doan, Mrs. Aldred E. Wilton, Mrs. Russell O. Frizzle, Mrs. Leonard Fuller and Mrs. Glenn H. Stanley A. Wolfe
"North Street - Stanley A. Wolfe, 62, of North Street went to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 7, 2000. He was born July 28, 1937, in Port Huron and was a lifelong area resident. He married Margaret Daggett on Nov. 30, 1957, in Port Huron. Stan worked for the Port Huron Area School District at Memorial Stadium for 39 1/2 years retiring in August 1995. He was an excellent carpenter who enjoyed helping everyone, and was always there in time of need. Stan was a very Christian man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and he will always be with his family and friends in spirit. He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Wolfe, North Street; five children. Julie (Don) Smith, Tempe, Ariz.; Laurie (Brian) Langolf, North Street; Janice Wolfe, Port Huron; Louise (Brett) Mitchell. Grosse Pointe Farmes, Mich.; and Sandra (Chris Toms) Wolfe, Burtchville Township; his daughter-in-law, Karen Lashbrook-Wolfe, Kimball Township; his nine grandchildren, Jessica and Zachary Langolf, Justin and Joshua Laker, Roxanne Smith, Shane Wolfe, Collin and Sydney Wolfe, and Meghan Mitchell: his father, Albert Wolfe, Port Huron; his two sisters, Nancy (Joe) Ross, Cochranville, Penn., and Lois (Jim) Buckley, Kimball Township; his brother, Charles (Cathy) Wolfe, Burtchville Township; and his sister-in-law, Elaine Wolfe, Marysville. "Age 73, of St. Clair died Dec. 27, 1993. Mr. Wolff was a retired City of St. Clair employee and also worked for Chris Craft. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Wolff was a member of St. Mary's, St. Clair, and a 50-year member of K of C 2251. He is survived by his wife, Mable; a son, Richard of St. Clair; a daughter, Victoria Emigh of fort Gratiot; a sister, Virginia Closs of St. Clair; a brother, Charles Wolf of Warren; and six grandchildren. Services were in L. C. Friederichs & Son and St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Edward Ritter officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery."

John A. Wolterbeek
"Moreno Valley, Ca. - John A. Wolterbeek, 84, formerly of Lakeport and Port Huron, passed away after a long illness Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in Moreno Valley, Ca. He was born on Sept. 20, 1915, in the Dutch East Indies. He served in the Dutch army from 1938 to 1956. He attained the rank of major and was director of the Dutch Army Intelligence School in The Netherlands. He married Lucy C. VanPelt on April 25, 1941. He immigrated with his family to the United States on Sept. 23, 1956. Father John R. Hogan of St. Edward's-on-the-Lake sponsored the Wolterbeek family and brought them to the Blue Water Area. Mr. Wolterbeek lived in Port Huron area for 10 years. He was employed at American Tape in Marysville. In 1966, he moved his family to California where he was employed by Lockheed as a patent research manager until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Wolterbeek is survived by his wife, Lucy; a son, Hans (Barbara) of Moreno Valley; two daughters, Annelies Thompson of Moreno Valley and Aafke (Michael) Howard of Port Huron; a son-in-law, Daniel McPherson of St. Clair Shores; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Vick of the Netherlands; and a brother, Harry of the Netherlands. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi McPherson who died on Jan. 28, 2000. Funeral services were June 6, 2000 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Moreno Valley. Cremation has taken place. It was his wish to be brought back to the area where he began his new life in America. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Port Huron."

"Port Huron - Stanley G. "Irish" Wolven, 82, died Monday, Nov. 11, 1991, in his home after a brief illness. He was born March 16, 19009, in Smiths Creek and was a lifelong area resident. He married Thelma Ida Beedom July 30, 1935, in Port Huron. She died Dec. 18, 1972. Mr. Wolven was a formerly employed at Pressed Metals as a machine operator. He also was employed as a custodian at the First congregational church and the Fogcutter Restaurant, and as a meat cutter at Fred Stanley's Market for a number of years. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David S. and Joyce Wolven of Port Huron; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane B. and Gerald K. Beedon of Marysville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lulu Wolven of Marysville and nieces and nephews. Services a re 11 a.m. Thursday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Elder Russell E. Loeding of the Varney Street RLDS Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. He was born Aug. 15, 1897, in Smiths Creek. He lived in Port Huron until 1947. He lived in Sandusky for 13 years before moving to Mount Morris. His wife, the former Marguerite M. Carrier, died Dec. 29, 1965. Mr. Wolvin was a former parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Port Huron. He is survived by a son, John C., Mount Morris; a brother, Stanley G. Wolven, Port Huron; and five grandchildren. A son, James G., died in 1969. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Judson Wonch
"Clyde - Judson Wonch, who died at his residence in this township April 9, 1896, of pneumonia, was born in the township of Blennum, Ont., September 14, 1859. He had been a resident of Clyde for the past 35 years, and in his death the community loses one of its most respected and highly esteemed citizens, and one who will long be remembered by those who knew him as a kind and true friend to all. During his suffering Mr. Wonch was the happiest of men, and he did not fear death. His frequently repeated words were, "When the roll is called up yonder I'll be there." The family wish to thank the many friends who so kindly assisted during the sickness and death of Mr. Wonch through the columns of the Port Huron Times. He leaves a wife, mother, two brothers and a sister."

"Joshua L. Wood, 84, a former St. Clair resident, died Sunday March 14th at Tampa, Florida after a 3-month illness. Mr. Wood was born September 16, 1863, in China Township, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wood, natives of Liverpool, England. He was postmaster and proprietor of the general store at Belle River Mills 60 years age, and was located in Flint, Michigan for several years before going to Florida 35 years ago with his family. Mr. Wood was a frequent summer visitor in St. Clair. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. L. O. Tanner of Limona, Fla, also 4 grandsons, and 1 great grandchild. Mrs. Wood died in 1915. Surviving also are the following nephews and nieces; Mrs. Homer Blair, Albion, Mrs. H. E. Moore, Lansing, Mrs. Hoyte Ouellette, Alger, Mrs. Gardiner, Pt. Huron, Mrs. Harvey Adams, Mrs. F. "Sandusky - Gerald L. (Jerry) Woodard, 74, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 1996 at his home in Sandusky. He was born Aug. 8, 1921 in Peck, to the late Marshall and Leota (Thompson) Woodard. He married Wilma Elliott on June 30, 1946 in Marlette. Mr. Woodward was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Sandusky High School, and served his country in the armed forces during WWII. He worked for many years as a press operator for Yale/South Haven Rubber Company in Sandusky. He was an avid golfer and member of the Windy Hills Golf Club. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; his sons, Robert and Carol Woodard of Georgia and Terry and Barb Woodward of Port Sanilac; his daughter, Debra and Dennis Brown of Deckerville; his brothers, Jim Woodward of Sandusky and Bob Woodard of Pontiac; his sister, Betty Guibord of Sandusky; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane, on Oct. 15, 1966, and brothers, Donald, Marshall and Max, and his sister, Lila. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Sandusky, with Jerry Griggs officiating. "Port Huron - Harry J. Woods, 97, of Port Huron, died Sunday, Dec. 26,1999. He was born Jan. 4, 1902, in Harbor Beach. He married K. Rosalie Knowlton on May 27, 1939. in Port Huron. Mr. Woods was a retired farmer and a Great Lakes sailor. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was active in local senior citizens activities. He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard C. Woods of Port Huron; a daughter, Mary L. LaPier and Robert Cartmale of London, Ontario; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Bernita Cregeur of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Woods; and four sisters, Vera Bunting, Marie Ernling, Violet Hamilton and Gertrude Stocks. Visiting will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Mickey R. Blair of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Mr. Woods' grandson, Chris Woods, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Port Huron Senior Center or the Port Huron Museum."

Raymond Woods, Jr.
"Port Huron - Raymond Woods Jr., 67, of Port Huron, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital after a ... illness. Raymond was born July ... 1932, to the late Raymond and Alberta Turner Woods. Mr. Woods attended Port Huron Area Schools and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1949. He attended Port Huron Junior College and left to join the U.S. Air Force. He served honorably for four years in the USAF Band as a clarinetist. Raymond retired from the Michigan Employment Securities Commission. He was a member of the Toppers Sportsmen's Club, where he also served as secretary. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Sanita Woods; a son, Raymond Woods III; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Johnson and her husband, James, of Port Huron and Mrs. Bettie Chaney and her husband, Ray, of Detroit; a stepsisters, Mrs. Marie Pollard and her husband, Thomas, of Georgetown, Ky.; one granddaughter, Madison Woods; and two nephews, Bryan and Gregory Johnson. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; a brother, Walter James Woods; and grandson, Raymond Woods IV. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. John L. Portis of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Ted Odlum, Pontiac, and Mrs. Louis Casado, Port Huron; a son, H. Edward L. Worden
"Capac - Edward Laurent Worden, died Friday, January 23, 1998. Mr. Worden was born December 26, 1923. He was the third son of William D. and Geneva Laurent Worden. Along with his brothers, Donald, Robert, and Kenneth, Edward grew up on his parents 160-acre Berlin Township farm nestled along the banks of the Belle River in St. Clair County. Graduating from Capac High School in 1942, Mr. Worden proudly served his country as a private in the United States Army during the occupation of Korea following World War II. He married Kathleen V. Gallagher in 1946, and together they had six children. From 1949 to 1974, Mr. Worden served as a member of the Detroit Police Department. He received numerous citations, including one in 1968 for rescuing a nine-year old girl who was kidnapped from her home in the middle of the night by a convicted child molester. Following his retirement from the police force, Mr. Worden returned to St. Clair County, where he worked ten years as a custodian for the Capac School system. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don, Mr. Worden is survived by his bride of 51 years, and their children, Carolyn (Joseph) Biondo of Capac, Kathleen (Don) Messacar of Normal, Illinois, John (Shirley) Worden of Glenndale, Arizona, William M. (Eileen) Worden of Grand Ledge, Joseph G. (Lorrie) Worden of Allenton, and Theresa (James) Lemerand of Ann Arbor. His brothers, Robert and Kenneth Worden, also survive him. Mr. Worden had 15 grandchildren, Sharyl (John) Bly, Melissa Biondo, Michelle and Michael Messacar, Renee Messacar, John Worden II, Christina Worden, Matthew Worden, William J. Worden, Kathryn Worden, Joseph P. Worden, Daniel Worden, Elizabeth Worden, Nicholas Lemerand, and Andrew Lemerand. Mr. Worden also had three great-grandchildren, Brandy Bly, Christopher Bly, and Lawrence J. McDonald. A tireless worker, Mr. Worden served as an excellent role model, especially for thrift, industry, and honesty. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are his greatest legacy. His presence will be sorely missed by family and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Capac, with Rev. Fr. Raymond H. Lewandowski officiating. Burial will follow at East Berlin Cemetery in Berlin Township. Pallbearers will include his sons, sons-in-law, grandsons, and nephew, Donald W. Worden. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today at Kaatz Funeral Home in Capac. Memorials may be made in Mr. Worden's name to either the American Cancer Society or Blue Water Hospice."

"Richmond - Edward L. Wright, 67, of 36251 Pound Road, a former Richmond area businessman, died Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mt. Clemens, after a long illness. He was born June 28, 1907, in Davis, Mich. He and Leona Woodward were married July 30, 1928, in Mishawaka, Ind. Mr. Wright owned and operated Wright's Dry Goods stores in Richmond, Armada, Memphis, and New Haven for 40 years. He retired in 1968. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife; a son, Byron Wright, Armada; two brothers, Carroll Wright, Villa Park, Il., and Lawrence Wright, Memphis, and two grandchildren. Private funeral services were scheduled today in Tiffany-Young Funeral Home, Armada, with cremation afterwards. Reader Robert Smily, Romeo Christian Science Church, officiated."

"Croswell - Kevin R. Wright, 36, of Croswell, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 7, 1963 in Yale. He and Cynthia R. Boyd were married Aug. 15, 1987. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Woodard Construction. Surviving are his wife, Cindy; his daughter, Karen, at home; his father, Harley of Croswell; one brother, Gerald of Croswell; one sister, Brenda (Duane) Maskell of Croswell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Bert Boyd of Croswell; grandmothers-in-law, Marie Boyd and Frances Tucker, both of Croswell; three brothers-in-law, Doug (Dorothy) Boyd of Carsonville, David Boyd of Port Huron, and Tim Boyd of Croswell; niece and nephews; and special friends, Bob Carroll and Jim Kenny. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Beatrice. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday n the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Croswell. The Rev. Dwight Ingersoll, associate pastor of North Lakeport Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery, Carsonville. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today. "Memphis - Services for Lawrence D. Wright, 66, of 35344 Bordman Road, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Kammeraad Funeral Home. The Rev. Jack B. Dundas, pastor of First Congregational Church, will officiate. Cremation will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Mr. Wright died Monday, Dec. 3, 1979, in St. Joseph Hospital East, Mount Clemens, after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Davis, Mich., and lived in Memphis since 1921. He married Mabel E. McGuffin March 25, 1941, in Ohio. Mr. Wright operated Wright Clothing Store since 1938. The firm has been operated by the family since 1922. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mary Ann, St. Clair Shores, and three grandsons."

Mrs. Wright died Friday afternoon after an illness of some duration. The home was banked with flowers, sent by her many friends and admirers, amply telling the regard in which they held her. "St. Clair - Anthony S. "Tony" Wroblewski, 88. of St. Clair, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999. He was born March 11, 1911 in Chicago. Tony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair, Marine City Knights of Columbus, the Cardinal Mindzenty Foundation and the Holy Name Society. He was retired from Commercial Contracting of Troy. He is survived by his brother, John Warren and his sister, Lillian Wrobleski. The body will lay in state at church Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. till Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. The Rev. Edward Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visiting hours are 1 to 6 p.m. today and Monday at L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home. A Rosary will he said at 4 p.m. Monday. Gerard "Rocky" Wrocklage
"St. Clair - Gerard "Rocky" Wrocklage, 68, died Tuesday, May 27, 1986, in Detroit. of complications following a heart attack. He was born March 29, 1918, in Maple Grove, Mich. He married Marie Spitzley Aug. 6, 1947. Rocky was a member of St. Mary's parish; Council 2251, Knights of Columbus; St. Mary's Ushers Club and the Fraternal Order of Police. He retired from the Michigan State Police in 1967 after 25 years of service. Mr. Wrocklage worked for Labor's Union Local 463. He was a veteran of World War II and received two bronze stars and a purple heart. He was a member of Post 382, American Legion. He is survived by his wife; son and daughter-in-law, Michael G. and Mary Wrocklage, St. Clair; daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs Ronald (Joyce) Brenton, Marysville, Mrs. David (Mary) Whittaker, St. Clair, and Mrs. Gerald (Patty) Grill, Goodells; four brothers, Carl Wrocklage, Chesaning, Robert Wrocklage, Indian River, Louis Wrocklage, Montrose, and John Wrocklage, Flint; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Ritter, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Visiting is from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the L. C. Freiderichs and Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 8 a.m. today. Memorials may be to the Michigan Crippled Children Program."

"St. Clair, Sept. 15 - Fred L. Wulf, 80, died at his home, 11661 Sussex, Wednesday after an illness of several years. Because of a misunderstanding in transmission of a message by telephone, it was erroneously reported Wedneday to the Times Herald the Frederick Streit, 80, instead of Mr. Wulf, had died. Mr. Wulf was born in St. Clair and attended the Lutheran and St.Clair public schools. While a resident here he was employed by the J. R. Whiting and Son Dry Goods store. He moved to Detroit many years age. He is survived by his widow, the former Anna Schrepferma; a son, Clarence H. Wulf; two daughters, Mrs. Albert Meyer and Mrs. George Rogers; eleven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ed A. Schlinkert, St. Clair; Mrs. Lena Troy, Port Huron and Mrs. Sophie Hinkler, Detroit, and a brother. Charles J. Wulf, St. Clair. Another son, Hilbert lives at Spring Lake. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Schmalzreidt funeral home, 16625 Grand River, Detroit."
