Coy D. Haase
"New Haven - Coy D. Haase, 66, of New Haven, formerly of Allenton, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999. Coy was a mechanic and a landscaper. Surviving are his wife, Lois; children, Debbie (John) Burke, Denise (Dean) Grant, Lori (Shane) Sutherland and Michelle (Richard) Klishak, all of Cape Coral, FL, David (Denise) Haase of Clinton Twp., Dianne (Steve) Pastorino of Roseville, Charles (Lu) Reah of Dryden, James Reah of Harrison, Donna (Roy Schramm) Haase of Allenton and Kimberly (Paul) Childers of Brown City; brother, James Bantle of Port Huron; step-father, Rumaldo DeLeon of Chesterfield; 18 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, Tammy Haase and Coy Haase Jr.; his mother, Ruth DeLeon; and a brother, Robert Bantle. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Tiffany-Young and Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 S. Fulton, Armada. Burial will be in West Berlin Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 1 to 9 p.m."

Kenneth E. Haggerty
"Smiths Creek - Kenneth E. Haggerty, 57, formerly of Smiths Creek, died Wednesday in Bartow Convalescent Center, Bartow, Fla., after a long illness. He was born May 4, 1920, in Carsonville, and moved to Arcadia, Fla.., in 1973. He married Mary Oles June 27, 1950, in Port Huron. Mr. Haggerty was a World War II veteran. He owned and operated Ken and Mary's Center, Smiths Creek, for 10 years. A charter member of Merrick-Potter Post 566, American Legion, Memphis, he was commander in 1951 and 1961 and finance officer and three-year chaplain of the post. He was a member of Post 526, American Legion, Smiths Creek. He was a past president of Smiths Creek Little League, serving four years. Mr. Haggerty is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Beverly Ann) Hurst, St. Clair, and Jeanne Martichuski, Arcadia; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Haggerty, Memphis; four brothers Frank Haggerty, Memphis, Virgil Haggerty, Owosso, Arthur Haggerty, Mesick, and Duaine Haggerty, Marysville; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Gingrich, Richmond; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis. The Rev. Harry E. Moore, pastor of Memphis Free Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memphis Cemetery, under the auspices of the Memphis and Smiths Creek American Legion posts. Remains are in the funeral home, where visiting hours begin at 7 p.m. today."

"George Osmund Hahn, 46, former St. Clair resident, died yeaterday in the Port Huron hospital after a three-year illness, with a heart ailment. Mr. Hahn was born in Canada. "St. Clair - Funeral services for Harold O. Hahn, 38, of 5654 Vine road, St. Clair, who died Friday, will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home, Jay Street Chapel, St. Clair. The Rev. Doug Trebilcock, pastor of St. Clair First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Adair Cemetery. Mr. Hahn was born March 31, 1937, in Adair. He married Jill Stockwell July 27, 1974, in Inverness, Fla. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Harold Hahn, St. Clair, and Michael and Mark Hahn, both of Richmond; three daughters, Peggy, Julie and Sherrie Hahn, all of Richmond; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Delores Bedford, Adair; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Hahn St. Clair, ; brother, Gerald Hahn, Hollywood, Calif., and 10 sisters, Mrs. Donna Charron, Cedarville, Mich., Mrs. Dorothy Swiekosz, Mrs. Joan Osterland, Mrs. Catherine LaVigne, Mrs. Carol Orzechowki, Mrs. Karen William, Mrs Sandra Kliemman and Mrs. Linda Patterson, all of St. Clair, and Mrs. Pauline Robb and Mrs. Sally Robb, both of Marine City. Adam Haist
"Adam Haist who died from a paralytic stoke in Pontiac last Saturday was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, Nov. 24, 1829. He was married April 12, 1850, to Adaline Cline and moved to this city in 1877 where he engaged in the furniture business, which he carried on very successfully up to about two years ago when his health began to fail him and his mind became somewhat weakened compelling him to give up work. He was removed to the asylum at Pontiac a few weeks ago for proper treatment and care of persons afflicted as he was and on Thursday of last week while Mrs. Haist was attending the funeral of her mother in Marine City a message came to this city saying that he was worse. She immediately went to Pontiac and stayed until Firday when she came home leaving him much improved. Saturday a message came saying he was dead. The remains were brought here Sunday and funeral held at the family residence Monday afternoon, being largely attended by friends, Rev. W. B. Millard officiating. The deceased leaves a widow and five children-Mrs. See, of Bay City; Mrs. F. W. Meyer, of Detroit; Aaron Haist, of Crosswell; Miss Stena Haist, of Port Huron and Charlie Haist, of whom the first four were present to mourn his death. In this connection the family wish to express their thanks for thoughful acts of nieghbors and friends."

Caroline Haligowski
"St. Clair, Feb. 7 — Mrs. Caroline Haligowski, 62, wife of Thomas Haligowski, 103 Searls road, Smiths Creek, died Saturday night in St. Clair Community Hospital. Mrs. Haligowski was born Oct. 24, 1892 in Poland. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Chester, St. Clair, and Joseph, Smiths Creek; four daughters, Mrs. John Kwiecinski, Detroit; Mrs. Andrew Sadlowski, Marine City; Mrs. Walter Wayne, Richmond, and Mrs. Anthony Sadlowski, St. Clair, and five grandchildren. Remains are in the L. C. Friederichs funeral home where Rosary devotions will be at 8:15 p.m. today for the Alter society and the Knights of Columbus, with Rev. Harold J. Kreucher, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic church, officiating, Rosary devotions also will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Lawrence Matysiak, pastor of Holy Rosary Catholic church, Smiths Creek, officiating. Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Father Matysiak officiating, and at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary church. Burial will be in St. Phillip’s Cemetery, Columbus Township."

Chester "Chet" Haligowski
"St. Clair - Chester "Chet" Haligowski, 64, died Sunday, June 6, 1993. He was born July 27, 1928, in Smiths Creek. He married Kathleen Trumble Oct. 11, 1952, in St. Clair. Mr. Haligowski graduated from Marysville High School in 1947. He retired from Diamond Crystal Salt Co. in 1986. He was a past Grand Knight and member of St. Clair Knights of Columbus Council 2251 and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Richmond Assembly. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church
and the Ushers and Doughboys. He bowled with the Senior Citizen Wednesday Afternoon League in St. Clair and was a former St. Clair City councilman. He was involved with St. Clair Babe Ruth and St. Clair Little League. He was member Pine Shores Golf Club and delivered Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Haligowski and daughter and son-in-law, Jane and James McCormick all of Marysville; five grandsons, Joseph, David and Michael Haligowski and Andrew and Aaron McCormick; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Henrietta Haligowski; two sisters, Lottie Kwiecienski of Warren and Frances Wayne of Fort Gratiot and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella and Andrew Sadlowski of Marine City and Irene and Anthony Sadlowski of St. Clair. Preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor and brother, Edward. Services are 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in St. Clair and 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting is 5 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be said 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Scholarship fund or Dr. Martin Bury's Oncology fund."

Addison G. Hall
"Addison G. Hall, 56, lifelong resident of the Port Huron area and proprietor of Hall Brothers Trucking and Landscaping Service, died Wednesday in his home, 2205 Tenth avenue, after a long illness. Mr. Hall was a member of the Port Huron Police Department from 1920 to 1926 and was a St. Clair County Deputy Sheriff 1926 to 1928. He operated the A. G. Hall construction company from 1928 to 1942. He was employed by Grand Trunk Railway from 1942 to 1945 when he started the trucking and landscaping company. He was a member of Griswold Street Baptist church and Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Mr. Hall was born Feb. 26, 1895 in Lakeport. He married Miss Lottie M. Rosebury Aug. 10, 1918. His survivors are his widow, three sons, Harvey G., Alfred D., and Albert V. Hall, all of Port Huron, a sister, Mrs. Goldie M. Nichols, Alger, Mich; a brother, Willard P. Hall, Port Huron, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Kareer - Simpson funeral home. Rev. J. Arthur Murfin, pastor of Griswold Street baptist church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. The remains are in the family home and will be removed to the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday."

Almira Hall
"Mrs. Almira Hall, wife of Verdine Hall, 1617 Pine Grove avenue, died this morning at seven o'clock, after a lingering illness. She was 58 years of age. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hall is survived by five children, V.R. Hall, Jr., of Ophein, Montana, Frank A. Hall, Willard P. Hall, Addison G. Hall and Mrs. Goldie Nichols, of Port Huron. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. A.M. Stevens, a sister, Mrs. William Simpson, both of Port Huron, and by 12 grandchildren, Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made. Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock."

"Ruby, March 21 — Dayton Hall, 66, lifelong Ruby resident and an employee of Mueller Brass cpmpany, Port Huron, died Tuesday in University Hospital, Ann Arbor, after a short illness. He was born Sept. 7, 1884 in Memphis. Surviving are his widow, the former Nellie Mathews; son, Glen Hall, and two grandchildren, Berle and Lyle Hall, all of Ruby; two sisters, Mrs. Irene MacDonald, Ruby, and Mrs. Roy Towsley, Port Huron, and a niece and five nephews. Remains are in the Jones funeral home, Avoca. Funeral services will be there at 2 p.m. Friday with burial in Lakeside Cemetery Port Huron. Arthur Nye will officiate."

Hall, Mrs. L. L. Eaton, Hen-y and Jason Hall, all of Port Huron. The funeral will be held from the Washington ave. M. E. church at 2 0'clock Tuesday afternoon."

Mrs. Frances Johnson Hall
"Said Husband Caused Death - Lexington Woman Made the Statement While Dying - Asked that Her Wedding Ring be Removed - Couple Married in Port Huron May Last - Lexington, Mich. Oct. 11 - Mrs. Frances Johnson Hall died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Phillip Wiseman, at Lexington, last Monday, aged 21 years. Mrs. Hall was married May 29, 1907, to Frank Hall, at Port Huron. A short time ago she was taken sick. Warm plates were placed over her bowels, but it is said Frank Hall, the husband, would snatch them off and dash them to the floor. He would not allow any one present, including the physician. At one time it is claimed he placed his wife in a buggy while in this condition, but it was not learned where he intended to take her. Almost one hour before her death she made this statement. 'Take this ring off my finger. The man who put it on caused my death.' The funeral was held of October 10."

"Port Huron Man Dies in S. Dakota - A message received today by Port Huron relatives tells of the death this morning of Verdine R. Hall Jr., 41, former Port Huron youth, at his home in Webster, North Dakota. Mr. Hall left Port Huron to attend the University of Michigan where he graduated in law in 1916. He went from Ann Arbor to Opine, Montana., and a few years ago moved to South Dakota. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Goldie Nichols, father V.R. Hall, and two brothers, Willard Hall and Addison Hall, of Port Huron, a brother, Frank Hall, in Detroit, and his widow and two children in South Dakota. Burial will be in Webster."

Willard P. Hall, Sr.
"Willard P. Hall, 66 of 1512 Thomas street, retired Grand Trunk railroad employee, died today in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness. He was born Oct. 28, 1887 in Port Huron. He and Florence L. Wheeler were married July 1, 1908. Mr. Hall worked 17 years for the Pere Marquette railroad, left to work as a butcher for several years and then was employed by the Grand Trunk for four years until illness forced him to retire in September, 1943. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen of America. He is survived by his widow, a son, Willard P. Hall, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. August Wessel and Mrs. Thomas Budzik, all of Port Huron: a sister, Mrs. Goldie Nichols, Alger, Mich, and 10 grandchildren. The remains are in the Kipp funeral home where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. H.H. Peyton, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery."

Frances M. Hamacher
"St. Clair, Feb. 23 - Mrs. Frances M. Hamacher, 70, wife of Walter Hamacher, 642 North Sixth street, died early today in St. Clair Community Hospital after a several weeks illness. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Campbell, she was born in Brigden, Ont., Aug. 23, 1882. She came with her parents, to Greenville, Mich., as a child. They later moved to St. Clair where Mrs. Hamacher attended school and was graduated in 1902 from St. Clair High School. She attended Michigan State Normal College, Ypsilanti, and then taught a year at Caro. She was married to Mr. Hamacher, June 22, 1904, in St. Clair. The family moved to Detroit after a number of years but returned to St. Clair in 1947. She was a longtime member of the First Methodist church and Hester unit of the WSCS. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Edmund Littel, Detroit; Mrs. Harold Kilgus, Dearborn, and Mrs. John Fraser, LaGrange, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Harry Beacom, Marlette; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild. Remains are in the T. R. Bower funeral home and will be there until 1 p.m. Wednesday when they will be taken to First Methodist church. Services will be at 2 p.m., with Rev. Frank Hartley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery."

Hugh O. Hamblin
"FATAL ACCIDENT IN WALES - Wales - Last Wedneday William Lashbrooks was engaged in pulling stumps for C.S. King, in the town of Wales. During a little shower he stopped working, and Hugh O. Hamblin, Mr. Lashbrook's father-in-law, who was asssisting him, crept under a stump suspended on the stump machine about four feet high. Mr. Lashbrooks remonstrated with him, telling him there was danger, but Mr. Hamblin did not heed him and insisted on his coming under also. Shortly after a portion of the stump that the chains were fastened under split off, letting the stump fall, killing Mr. Hamblin instantly. Considerable sand had adhered to the stump, and as it was sandy underneath, there was not a bruise or mark upon his body and no look of pain upon his features. It is to be hoped that this will be a warning to all engaged in the same work. A watch dog highly prized by the family of C.S. King was also killed."

A. Louise Hamilton
"North Street - A. Louise Hamilton, 83, of North Street, died Friday, Nov. 11, 1999 in Port Huron Hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1915 in Port Huron to the late Henry and Catherine Hawkins and was a life long area resident. She married Robert E. Hamilton on Feb. 13, 1936 in Port Huron. He died March 3, 1972. Mrs. Hamilton was employed at Diana Sweet Shoppe for many years and enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Carmen (Jean) Hamilton of Battle Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Mary Paul) Hamilton of Port Huron; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Linda) Simpson of North Street; a daughter-in-law, Laurel Hamilton; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert T. Hamilton Sr. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Bendert of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Stephen, Daniel, Robert and Greg Hamilton, Brian Simpson and Gary Wolfe. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy and Scott Hamilton. "St. Clair, May 24 — Mrs. Margaret L. Hamilton, 76, widow of Capt. William L. Hamilton, died early today in her home, 506 South Second street. She was born March 26, 1879 in Mt. Clemens, daughter of the late Joseph Paya. She and Capt. Hamilton were married in 1898 in St. Clair. He died in 1942. She was a resident here all her life. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Manson MacIntosh, El Paso, Tex.; three sons, Dauglas J. Hamilton, William L. Hamilton and James M. Hamilton, all of St. Clair, and a brother, Frank Paya, Buffalo, N.Y.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the T. R. Bower funeral home. Rev. Howard Rutenbar, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery."

Mrs. Hamilton Harkness
"Mrs. Hamilton Harkness, the mother of Samuel and George Harkness and Mrs. Geo. A. Wolvin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wolvin, in this city Thursday afternoon, June 30, 1892 aged 67 years. Her home was in Mooretown, Canada, and was here to spend the summer with her children when she was taken sick and died as above noted. The deceased was born in Ireland, county of Monnahan, in the year 1825. When she came to America she lived for four years in Massachusetts and then came to Mooretown where she had ever since resided. She was the mother of five sons and four daughters all of whom are living and of whom all but one, a son living in British Columbia, were present at the funeral which was held in the Presbyterian church, Mooretown, of which she was a member, on Saturday. The family desire to thank their friends for the Many deeds of kindness extended during the sickness and death of the deceased."

Ivah Harkness
"Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A. Harkness have the sympathy of the whole community in the sorrow that has come to them through the death of their daughter Ivah. Her illness was comparatively brief, lasting some two or three weeks only. Everything that medical skill and faithful nursing could do was done, but the malady was too strong, and the end came on Sunday afternoon. Ivah is the second daughter Mr. and Mrs. Harkness have lost within a little more than a year. She was but nineteen years of age, and her death seems doubly sad in view of the fact that she was to be married in two weeks. She was a member of the Congregational church, and an active worker in the Y. P. S. C. E., where she will be greatly missed. Unassuming in her manner, kindly and considerate in her disposition, with a smile and a pleasant greeting for every one, Ivah many many friends, who will long cherish her memory. The funeral services were held at the St. James Hotel on Tuesday afternoon, and were largely attended."

Charles Westley Harland
"Charles Westley Harland, 67, resident of St. Clair county 37 years, died Friday afternoon in his home in Kimball township after a long illness. Mr. Harland, who was born in Durham, England, July 29, 1869, came to the United States when he was 13. He was a member of Cedarwood camp, No. 4, Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jannette Harland, and two sons, John Harland and Harvey Harland, both of Port Huron; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dixon, Port Huron, and Mrs. Richard Kempthorn, Paris, Ont., and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the home of his son, Harvey Harland, 940 Crescent place. Rev. William Hersee, International Bible student, Toronto, Ont., will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery."

"GRANDSON OF LOCAL PIONEER DIES FRIDAY - Albert Harrington, 63, resident of Port Huron all his life, operating engineer for the Detroit Edison company, died Friday in his home, 1119 Beers street, after a short illness. Mr. Harrington, whose grandfather settled in Port Huron 128 years ago, was born here Oct. 18, 1874. He entered the employ of the Detroit Edison company 38 years ago. He is survived by his widow, two sons, John B. Harrington., Port Huron, and Alex Harrington, Abbottsford, three daughters, Mrs. Marvel M. Gustke, Port Huron, Mrs. Vera Rae, Detroit, and Mrs. Charles Anderson, Sparlingville, a brother, Cyrus S. Harrington, Detroit, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Huronia lodge, No. 371, IOOF. The remains are in the family residence where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday. Dr. Victor F. Brown, pastor of Ross Memorial Congregational church , will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside cemetery."

"INJURIES FATAL TO HARRINGTON - Local Business Man Dies Today in Lapeer Hospital - Earl F. Harrington, owner of the North Side Ice company, 1737 Lyons street, injured Wednesday morning in an automobile accident near Lapeer, died this morning in Lapeer City hospital of a fractured skull and internal injuries. He did not regain consciousness. The remains were to be removed this afternoon to the Albert A. Falk mortuary. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Harrington was a passenger in an automobile driven by Daniel Mittoff, proprietor of the Pine Grove tavern, 3050 Pine Grove avenue, when it collided with a Lapeer county truck, driven by Ralph Quade, 36 Lapeer, five miles west of Lapeer. Mittoff and three other passengers in his car were injured. Herman Deering, 60, of 921 Eighth street, who suffered a punctured lung, is in a serious condition in Lapeer City hospital. The condition of his wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Deering, was described today by hospital attendants at "fair." Mittoff, who suffered a fractured neck, was said to be "Improved slightly." Raymond Western, 29, of 1328 White street, who suffered a fractured ankle, was removed to his home Wednesday night."

Frances M. Harrington
"Frances M. Harrington died Friday morning, January 6th, at the home of her son, H. M. Harrington, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, aged 79 years and 10 months. Her maiden name was Frink, being one of a family of nine children, two of whom survive her - a brother, Marshal D. Frink, of Port Huron and a sister, Mrs. Baker, of Chenango county, New York, living near the old homestead. Mrs. Harrington's early life was spent in New York state, where she was married to James S. Harrington, moving to St. Clair about forty-five years ago. Of late years her home has been with her only son, Herbert. By those who knew her well during the last years, Mrs. Harrington will always be remembered for her strong personality. It is very seldom given to men and women to maintain to as late a period in life the ready with, the keen insight into and the comprehension of life that was hers. Being, as the aged needs must by, merely a distant onlooker on life's battle, she caused in the mind of those who were about her no little wonder at the clearness with which she was and comprehended the progress of things. Never aggressive in assertion, never imperative in wish, she was till endowed with an energy and an activity which by example, but unconsciously, taught every one with whom she came in contact to do his duty. Her kindness, and kind she was, was not the kindness that spoils, that leaves the recipient weaker and more ready to need it the next time. Her eye was fixed on goals more distant, not on the immediate present, and when she helped, it was not so much to give - an easy and useless helping, but to make stronger. Though just and exacting, she was possessed of an abundance of cheerfulness that made her presence and conversation always cheering, and whatever were the trials and vicissitudes that came, she was cheerfully ready to take her share and silently to do her best. Though entirely unconscious of it, she exerted a very positive influence for good over her surroundings. Her burial took place in St. Clair Saturday morning, in the presence of relatives and friends, Mr. Blackford conducting the service at the grave."

James Stephen Harrington
"James Stephen Harrington was born in Chenango Co., New York, January 18th, 1828. He was the oldest of a family of six. His father died when he was ten years old and his mother when he was twelve. As a boy he worked at farming, finally learning the cooper and carpenter trades, at which he worked the most of his life. He was married twice. His first wife, Charlotte L. M. Barre, died shortly after the birth of their son, Herbert M. His second wife, Francis M. Frink, with whom he lived for over 42 years, survives him. In 1861 he moved to Michigan and to St. Clair, where he has resided since, with the exception of five years spent in Sanilac county on a farm. In 1872 he was nominated by the Republican party for city treasurer, but was defeated by two votes. In 1874 he was again nominated and elected. In his middle age he was very much devoted to Masonry, and held every office in Evergreen Lodge No. 9 from Tyler to W. M. He was E. C. of John Clark Commandery until the charter was surrendered. For the past five years his health has been poor and he was confined to his room for the last six months before his death which occurred Thursday, June 17, at 6:45 p.m. He was laid to rest by Evergreen Lodge No. 9, Sunday, June 20."

He is survived by his widow and the following sons; Clinton and Russell Harrington, this city also one sister; Mrs. Thomas Tutman of Detroit, and the following brothers George and Bert Harrington this city, William and Silas Harrington, Detroit. Private funeral services will be held from the residence Sunday at 1 p.m. followed by interment in Lakeside Cemetery."

"Warren - On July 18, 2000, Betty L. Harris passed on the join her loved ones in Heaven. A Mass in her honor will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at St. Clements church in Center Line. She was preceded in death by Norman Harris and Emil Ketelhut. She is survived by her mother, Esther Ketelhut; her three brothers, Tom, Dave and Nelson; her daughters, Ann Dandron, Judy Brabeau, Susan Hoover, Victoria Kotulak and Lydia Bieth; her sons, Joseph and David Soboleski; her 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Cremation has taken place. She will be buried in Fort Custer Cemetery in Augusta. Donations can be made to St. Jude's Hospital."

Clare Hart
"Jeddo - Clare Hart, 70, died Monday Oct. 11, 1999 in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness. She was born June 16, 1929 in Detroit. Clare was the organist at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron. She was in the Sisters of Charity Order for 45 years. Her uncle was Bishop Allan J. Babcock of the Grand Rapids Diocese. Music and wildlife conservation were her main interests. Animals and St. Francis of Assisi were dearest to her heart. She loved to knit, crochet and work jigsaw puzzles. Clare is survived by her sister. Nancy; brothers, Chuck and Frank; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary church. The Rev. Stanley A. Wyczawski, pastor, will officiate. Visiting hours will be 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Arrangements by Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to, Sisters of Charity, Mount St. Joseph, Cincinnati, 45051."

David Hart
"David Hart, one of St. Clair county's oldest pioneers died suddenly of heart disease in the store of Hart & Koenig on Monday. He had been in his usual health and had just been talking with the junior member of the firm when without warning he fell from his chair and died without a struggle. Mr. Hart was born at some place on Long Island in the state of New York, July 7th, 1807, and when about three years of age his parents moved to Tempkins county in the same state where he lived until 1836, when he came to Michigan with an unmarried sister and together they took up a tract of two hundred and eighty acres of land in the township of China about six miles from St. Clair Here they lived and toiled together, converting the wild forest into a fertile and attractive farm. On the death of his sister about fourteen years ago Mr. Hart gave up the active duties of farm life and since that time has rented his farm and made his home with his nephews, John M. and Oscar. With the exception of a chronic heart trouble which finally resulted in his death, but which seldom gave him serious distress he always enjoyed excellent health, and was noted in his younger days for the amount of labor he could perform. He was a man of the most correct habits, greatly attached to his home and his near relatives, very charitable in an unobtrusive way, but with very little taste for politics and an absolute aversion for office holding. He was a genial companion and was very highly esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral services were held at the Congregational church yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Mr. Millard officiating and were attended by a large number of the residents of St. Clair and the adjoining townships."

Hugh Huse Hart
"St. Clair, Sept. 24 - Hugh Huse Hart, 76, St. Clair City attorney and former County Probate Judge, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Port Huron Hospital after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Hart's son, Hugh H. Hart Jr., Reading, Pa., and daughter, Mrs. Virginia Droulard, Ambler, Pa., were at the bedside at time of death. The dean of St. Clair lawyers, Mr. Hart had devoted more than 53 years to his profession and to community service. He continued his law practice until the time of his illness. A member of the St. Clair Board of Education for 30 years and its president 24 years until 1948, Mr. Hart spearheaded efforts which led to the erection of the present High School building in 1924. He still retained honorary membership on the Board of Education at the time of his death. Elected St. Clair County of Probate in 1912. Mr. Hart served in that office seven years. He had stated that some of his greatest experiences came while dealing with juvenile cases as Probate Judge. Other jobs in the long life of service Mr. Hart has performed include Member of the National Guard Camp Site Commission, under Governor Chase Osborn. His Commission picked the site for Camp Grayling. He was in charge of the 1910 national census in the Seventh Congressional District. He was appointed a member of the state Corrections Commission by Governor Alex J. Grosesbeck in 1921, and a short time later was made chairman. He served throughout the administrations of Gov. Wilbur H. Brucker and Gov. William A. Comstock. A charter member of the St. Clair Rotary club and first president of the group, Mr. Hart was still active in the club at the time of his death. He also belonged to the University of Michigan club, St. Clair, and was a member of the Port Huron lodge No. 343, BPOE. Mr. Hart was born in China Township, March 28, 1876, son of the late John and Clare Carleton Hart. Ten months after his birth, Mr. Hart's father moved his family to Port Huron where he became County Sheriff. Except for the 12 years his father held office, Mr. Hart has spent his entire life in St. Clair. He was a graduate of St. Clair High School in 1898. Shortly after receiving his law degree, Mr. Hart was appointed City Attorney for St. Clair and elected Circuit Court Commissioner. Except for a few years, he was City Attorney ever since. He married Miss Blanche Brown, St. Clair, March 29, 1894. She died in 1942. Besides his son and daughter, Mr. Hart is survived by four grandchildren. A brother, Edmund Hart, died in 1949. Remains are in the T. R. Bower funeral home, St. Clair, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Effie Hammond, of the St. Clair Christian Science Society, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grant S. Smith, Sherwood H. Recor, Charles F. Moore, Jack Moore, Cecil P. Matthews and Wilton J. Gearing, all of St. Clair."

Mrs. Minnie S. Hart
"Mrs. Minnie S. Hart, 41, lifelong resident of St. Clair, died Sunday in Harper Hospital, Detroit, after an illness of three months. She was born April 13, 1909, in St. Clair, the daughter of John and Francis Trumble. She was a lifelong member of Adair Methodist Church and a graduate of St. Clair High School. She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Mae, St. Clair, and Lulu of Detroit; six brothers, John, Francis, Myron, William, Lester and Merlin Trumble, all of St. Clair. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the family residence at Mitchell and Division roads and at 2:30 p.m. in First Methodist Church, St. Clair. Rev. Fred Parr, pastor of Adair Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery."

Oswald S. Hart
"Oswald S. Hart, to whose death reference was made last week, was born in the state of New Jersey about forty years ago. When very young he came with his parents to Michigan, and has lived here ever since. From early boyhood he has lived in this city, making his home with General and Mrs. Brown. He was for many years in the employ of the late John L. Agens, but has been in business for himself. The aged father of Mr. Hart survives him. 'Oswald,' as he was familiarly called was a general favorite. Quiet and unassuming in his manner, and somewhat reserved, he yet seemed to be everybody's friend. There was that about him that inspired confidence and trust; and those who gave him their confidence found him always loyal and true. As a business man Mr. Hart was careful and prudent in his methods, and attentive to all the details of his work. His customers found him always courtous and obliging. He was a member of Palmer Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and at the time of his death held the office of Master of the Exchequer. He was also attached to the Uniform Rank of that Order, and was buried with Pythian honors, a column of his Rank under Capt. Ingles acting as escort. The funeral services, which were held in the congregational church on Thursday last were largely attended by members of Palmer Lodge and by citizens generally Rev. Mr. Duff paid expressive tribute to the worth of Mr. Hart. The floral offerings were numerous, the pieces presented by the Knight of Pythias and by the intimate friends of Mr. Hart being especially handsome. The family friends wish to express their gratitude to the choir for their services so well rendered."

Dr. Russell Alger Hart
"DR. HART DIED IN MT. CLEMENS - Son of Former Local Dentist Succumbs to Illness - (Special to The Times Herald) - St. Clair, Aug. 7 - Dr. Russell Alger Hart, 35, prominent young dentist, of St. Clair, died in a hospital in Mt. Clemens at 3:40 a.m. today after an illness of several days. Dr. Hart had not been in good health for some time, and was lately unable to carry on his practice in St. Clair. He was taken to Mt. Clemens, Wednesday. Dr. Hrt was born in Port Huron, the son of Dr. and Mrs. A. N. Hart. He received his primary school education there, and his High school education in Ann Arbor. He was graduated from the University of Michigan dental college in 1911. Surviving are the widow; five children, Nadine, Haldane, Benson, Barbara and Doris. Nadine, the oldest is 15, and Doris, the youngest, is 6 years of age. His parents, Dr. And Mrs. Hart, who are in California, and two brothers, Clarence and Dr. Harold Hart, also of California, are other survivors. Funeral arrangements will be made later."

"St. Clair, Aug. 25 - Henry Hartlein, 78, lifelong St. Clair Township farmer, died late Monday in the same home where he was born, 6218 Townline road. He was born March 21, 1875. He married Louise Stein, May 18, 1904. Mrs. Hartlein was a life member of the Immanuel Lutheran church. Surviving are his widow, a son, Hilbert, St. Clair; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Dunnington, Detroit; Mrs. Glenn Slack, Midland, and Mrs. Clayton Smith St. Clair, and six grandchildren. Remains were taken from L.C. Friederichs and son funeral home to his residence where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Otto Pfotenhauer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical church, Port Huron, will officiate, and burial will be in Hillside Cemetery."

A lifelong resident of this area, she was a member of the First Methodist church, St. Clair many years. Mrs. Hartline is survived by a sister, Mrs. Henry Williams; a niece, Mrs. William Emig; a brother-in-law, Henry Hartline and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Hartline, all of St. Clair. Survived by his children, Debra (Robert) Herrick of Royal Oak, David (Kathy) of Littleton, Co., Douglas of Phoenix, Az., Dean (Kathryn) of Chino Valley, Az., Derik of Baltimore, Md., and Darrin of Memphis. He was a grandfather of Michael (Rachel), Eric, Jennifer, Amanda, Ashley, Jasen, Tracy, LaTisha, Justin, Catherine, Skinner and Amber; brother-in-law to four; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine L. Hartsock, who passed away Feb. 17, 2000. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. June 3, 2000, at the Christian Memorial Cultural Center, 521 E. Hamlin Rd., Rochester Hills. Final resting place will also be at the Christian Memorial Cultural Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice."

"Port Huron - Jeannine Hatfield, 69, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in her home. She was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Port Huron. She married William Hatfield in January 1977 in Port Huron. Mrs. Hatfield retired as secretary for Trinity Lutheran School, Port Huron. She was a member of Life of Faith Church and also worked with Mercy Hospital Pastoral Care. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking and baking for family and friends. She is survived by her husband, William; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Edward "Skip" (Diane) Dmytryshyn of Marysville, Mr. and Mrs. Steven "Mitch" (Cathy) Elliott of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. Anthony "Tony" (Debbie) Elliott of Marysville; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Susan) Brough of Port Huron; ten grandchildren, Todd and Kyle Dmytryshyn, Scott, Jeannine and Connie Elliott, Shaylyn and Nicole Elliott, Mrs. Mark (Kimberly) Paeth, Mrs. Ryan (Michelle) Enright and Angela Brough; four great-grandchildren, KayLeigh, Christopher, Jordan and Cameron; three step-daughters, Mr. and Mrs. William (Jane) Farrand of Colorado, Sally Hatfield and her husband, Paul Burghard, of Arizona and Nancy Infante of Port Huron; six step-grandchildren, Kristy Roach, Jennifer Barr, Shelby Infante, Steven, Jared and Alex Farrand; and two step-great-grandchildren, Torey and Ryan Roach. "Funeral services for Arthur S. Hathaway, 63, of 1407 Fifteenth street, who died Saturday in his home, were held today in the Arthur Smith funeral home. Rev. David T. Jordan, pastor of Griswold Street Baptist church, officiated. Burial was in Capac Cemetery. Edward Clouse, Clinton S. Clouse, Fran H. Dell, Earl Dell, Jule C. Dell and Harrey E. Bonney, all of Port Huron, were pallbearers."

Erastus Hathaway
"Erastus Hathaway died May 1, 1912, at his home in Capac. He was born in Canada, July 2, 1839, and came to Michigan when but a youth, and settled in Almont. December 2, 1862, he married Miss Martha Beecraft, and to them were born seven children. At the outbreak of the Civil War the deceased said good-by to his loved ones and marched away to fight for his country with Co. H. 3rd Vol. Inft. This regiment was engaged in many of the hard battles of the war. At Williamsburg, Va., where on May 5, they fought gallantly, they received special commendation from Gen. Berry, commander of the brigade. In the battle of Gettysburg, the 3rd infantry served as a part of the advanced line. Mr. Hathaway was among the number who crossed the famous pontoon bridge. At Murfreesboro, the 3rd was engaged in picket and scout duty. After crossing the Gulf of Mexico to San Antonio, Texas, where it arrived after a fourteen-day march. In 1866, Mr. Hathaway was mustered out of the service. The funeral services of the deceased were held from the Baptist church on May 3, under the auspices of the W. R. C., Mrs. Burger acting as Matron, and Rev. Wallace preaching the sermon. The starry flag was draped about the coffin. "Just Before the Battle, Mother," and "Nearer, My God, to Thee," which have been sung over many a dying soldier, on the far away battle field, were beautifully rendered by the choir and made sad sweet music. Mr. Hathaway's comrades, "The Boys in Blue," whom he always held in high esteem, carried him tenderly to his last "camping ground" there to rest in peace. Rev. Wallace's remarks were very effective and soothing to those who are left to mourn the loss of a once kind husband, father and friend. "But no more shall the bugle call the weary one. Rest, noble spirit, in they grave unknown. If we find you we will know you among the good and true, Where the robe of white is given for the faded coat of blue."

Martha Jane Hathaway
"Martha Jane Bechraft was born in Canada, near Toronto, in the year 1845, and came to Michigan at the age of ten years with her parents. The family settled near Almont. The deceased was married to the late Erastus Hathaway in 1861 and moved to farm on the West Road, 1 m. south and 8 m. west of Capac. To this union were born six daughters and one son. Three of the daughters preceded the mother in death. Left to mourn their loss are three daughters and one son - Arthur Hathaway and wife and Jule Younghans and wife of South Park, Mich.; Mrs. E. Sharrard, Port Huron; and Mrs. H. Bonney of Capac; also 18 grand-children, 4 brothers, 4 sisters and a host of neighbors and friends. She gave her heart to God at the age of 17 and united with the Baptist church and was a faithful worker up to about four years ago, when she was afflicted with a paralytic stroke. She died in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ, at the home of Jule Younghans and wife, April 2, 1920, at the age of [?]5 years. The funeral services were conducted from the Capac Baptist church, by Rev. Geo. H. Waid, and the remains were laid at rest in the Capac cemetery, April 5.

Helen Havens
"St. Clair - Helen Havens, 78, of St. Clair, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, in the Faith Medical Care Center. She was born on Sept. 7, 1921, in St. Clair and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Havens retired from the St. Clair Inn with more than 25 years of service. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Edward) Carnahan; four sons, Richard Shafer, Arthur (Donna) Shafer, Robert (Linda) Shafer, all of St. Clair, and Ronald Shafer of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 6, 2000, in the Hillside Cemetery Chapel, with the Rev. Edward Ritter officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements were by the L. C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home, St. Clair."

"Age 78, of St. Clair died April 11, 2000. Mrs. Havens was retired from the St. Clair Inn. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Carnahan and Cindy Shafer, both of St. Clair; Sons, Richard, Arthur and Robert, all of St. Clair and Ronald of New Mexico; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. "St. Johns - John A. Hayes, 66, died Monday, October 15, 1990, in his residence. He was born July 23, 1924, in St. Clair County. Mr. Hayes graduated from Yale High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Michigan until his retirement. He then became affiliated with Century 21 Property Mart Inc. He is survived by his wife Ann Marie; five sons, Lawrence of Port Huron, Kevin and Jeff of St. Johns, John of Lake Isabella, California and Kurt of Seattle, Washington; four daughters, Christina Jones of Everett, Washington, Monica Sarchian and Sheila Beckman of Kent, Washington and Becky Hartenburg of St. Johns; nine grandchildren; a sister, Leona Merrill and a brother, Earl Shirkey, both of Avoca. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia, a son Garret and a grandson, G.J. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Mount Rest Cemetery. A rosary will be said 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society."

"St. Clair - Funeral services for Joseph W. Haynes, 17, 0f 6831 Trumble, St. Clair, who was dead on arrival at Port Huron Hospital, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Port Huron, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Jay Street Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Reyelts, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. Clair, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. The remains will be in the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. Mr. Haynes was born April 7, 1957, in Wyandotte, Mich. He had lived in St. Clair for the past few years. Mr. Haynes, a member of the Marine City 4-H group, would have been a senior in St. Clair High School. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haynes, St. Clair; a brother, David Haynes, St. Clair; a sister, Miss Laurie Haynes, St. Clair; paternal grandfather, Lloyd McKinnon, Gladwin; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen Medel, Flat Rock; and paternal great grandmother, Mrs. Bess Seholes, Newark, Ohio."

Dr. Roy G. Hayward
"Algonac - Dr. Roy G. Hayward 88, of 129 Channelsyde, Algonac, died Wednesday in Ann Arbor. He was born Feb. 4, 1888, in St. Clair. Dr. Hayward married Era Gliem in 1912. She died in 1836. He married Dorothy Sheil Walker in 1961. Dr. Hayward was a dentist in Detroit and Algonac before retiring. He was a founder of Detroit Clinic Club. He was past president of Detroit District Dental Society and past president of Algonac Rotary Club. Dr. Hayward was a member of Palestine Lodge and Detroit Commandery 1, Delta Sigma Delta and OKU Honorary Dental Fraternity. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. R.E. (Jean) Simkins, Menosha, Wis. Mrs. Marvin L. (Louise) Neihuss, Ann Arbor, and Mrs. George S. (Susan) Sayre, Ypsilanti; a son Dr. James R. Hayward, Ann Arbor; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held today in Gilbert Funeral home, Algonac. the Rev. Gary Beeker, pastor of Methodist Church of Algonac, officiated. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the school of Dentistry Fund, in care of Dean William Mann, University of Michigan."

Elmer W. Hazelman
"Emmett - Elmer W. Hazelman, 81, died unexpectedly Jan. 16, 2000, in Port Huron Hospital's emergency room. He was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Melvin, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Winkler Hazelman. He and Madeline Kinney were married June 22, 1940, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Emmett. Elmer was employed at the former United Brass in Marysville and worked for 24 years as a butcher with Ray Weeks and Son, Richmond, until 1969. He also worked in maintenance at the UAW Solidarity House in Detroit until retiring in 1980. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 7918, Emmett. He was an Emmett Village Council trustee and a member of the Emmett Township Board of Review. He was a retired charter member of the Emmett Township Fire Department. Surviving in addition to his wife of 59 years, Madeline, is a son, Jack Hazelman of Emmett; three daughters and son-in-laws, Nancy and John Klause of Emmett, Joan and Gary Armstrong of Avoca and Kitty and At Whitsitt of Marysville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Jim Hazelman of Peck, Grace Kirchoff of Dearborn and Esther Pettalice of Florida. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jane Hazelman; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Bernice Williams. A funeral Mass in appreciation for the life, family and friends of Elmer will be shared at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A Rosary devotion will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Avoca. The rev. Jasper Siranni, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Madeline M. Hazelman
"Emmett - Madeline M. Hazelman, 83, of Emmett died Friday, May 19, 2000. She was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Emmett, the daughter of the former Sylvester and Catherine Brennan Kinney. She married Elmer Hazelman on June 22, 1940, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Emmett. She lived in Emmett most of her life. Elmer died this past Jan. 16. Madeline was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 25 years, a life member of the Altar Society and a member of the Emmett Senior Citizens. She had worked as a teller at Commerical and Savings Bank, Emmett, for 15 years until her retirement in 1978. Surviving is a son, Jack of Emmett; and three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Klause of Emmett, Joan and Gary Armstrong of Avoca and Kitty and Al Whitsitt of Marysville; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hazel and Bill Morgan and Dorothy Lynch, all of Emmett; sister-in-law, Margaret Kinney of Smith Creek; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are sisters, Elizabeth Dent and Ellen O'Toole; brother, Jack Kinney; and a daughter-in-law, Jane Hazelman. A Rosary devotion will be at 8 p.m. today at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Avoca. She was born in Port Huron on March 9, 1948, to Viola Hildred Rosalez and the late Sotero (Benny) Rosalez. She is survived by her mother; son, John H. II; daughter, Jodie L. Hearn; brothers, Benny, Richard and Ernest Rosalez; and sisters, Mildred Gonzalez, Christina Ida Granado and Elaine Hendrick. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces including Barbara (Ted) Larson, Bonnie M. Stoetzer and Mary E. Stanlake, and her cousins. A great-nephew, Brian Larson, served as a pallbearer. Margaret's life was celebrated and her passing mourned during services at Gonzalez Funeral Home and Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Chester B. Heck
"Fort Gratiot Twp. - Chester B. Heck, of Fort Gratiot Township, died at the age of 97, on Wednesday Jan. 19, 2000. He was born to Charles and Matilda Heck on Jan. 3, 1903, in Monroe. He married Violet Rau of Monroe on Oct. 5, 1929. She died May 31, 1981. He later married Ruth Schumaker of Port Huron in June 1982. She passed away in July 1985. Mr. Heck was a Kelsey-Hayes Co. retiree. He lived in Detroit during most of his working years. His early retirement years were spent in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a life member of Monroe Lodge 27 F&AM, was active in Cub Scouts, and was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church in Detroit. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Jack C. (Mary Jo) Heck of Fort Gratiot Township and Charles W. Heck of Royal Oak; and five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Heck Greiner, Michael (Melissa) Heck and Brian, Kevin and Darin Heck. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, in Port Huron Family Funeral Home, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Dr. Mark P. Thomas, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, under the direction of Monroe Lodge 27 F&AM. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Port Huron to William and Nellie (Shaw) Saunders. She married Kenneth E. Henderson on Sept. 27, 1947, in Yale, Mich. Mrs. Henderson was a retired secretary for the Chrysler Corporation. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Croswell, Mich., and Thomas of Carsonville, Mich.; two daughters, Kathleen Ellen Rinehart of Port Orchard and Theresa Perry of Croswell; one brother, James R. Saunders of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Nancy Etchells of Croswell; 12 grandchildren, including Isaac Kapa of Croswell; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell. William Saunders officiated. Burial was in the Croswell Cemetary."

She was born July 7, 1911, in Detroit, daughter of the late Leslie and Ella (Bromley) McBride. She and Edward Henry were married Aug. 13, 1938, in Yale. He died July 20, 1977. Ula attended Croswell United Methodist Church and was a member of Rebecca Lodge #454, Croswell. Surviving are her son, Bob (Dorothy) Cameron of Tuscon, Az., and daughter, Donna Jean (R.J.) "Peck - J.D. 'Jack' Henshaw, 63, of Peck died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Croswell, the son of the late Kenneth and Bernice (MacNeil) Henshaw. He married Betty Marie Stone on Oct. 18, 1958, in Peck. She passed away on Aug. 27, 1986. Jack married Ellen Fay Hales on Nov. 13, 1988, in Croswell. Mr. Henshaw retired in July 1998, having worked as a maintenance supervisor at Travco Corporation in Brown City and for the Peck Community Schools for ten years. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Peck Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Henshaw; one son, Edward Henshaw of Croswell; one daughter, Lori and Fred Miller of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jacob and Kara Henshaw, Jeffrey and Kaitlin Miller; one brother, Parmer and Helen Henshaw of Sandusky; two sisters, Aldean Bannister and Bonnie Overstreet, both of Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Andrew, Hubert, Norman, Shirley and Richard Martin, and three sisters, Joyce, Patricia Bowser and Marguerite Karns. Burial was in Bedford, Texas."

"Port Huron - Joseph R. Hernandez, 62, of 604 12th St., died Saturday, Oct. 27, 1979, in Mercy Hospital. He was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Mexico. Mr. Hernandez managed the Military Billiards Pool Room for many years. He also worked at Mueller Brass Co. He is survived by two half-sisters, Mrs. Zellia Martinez, Detroit, and Mrs. Pearl Suarez, Port Huron; a half-brother, Frank Duenaz, Indiana; and nieces and nephews. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Dunn, of the Guadalupe Center, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Funeral home visiting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today."

"St. Clair, May 20 - Funeral services for Mike Heryk, 30, who was killed in an automobile accident in Detroit Sunday, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the L.C. Friederichs and Son funeral home, St. Clair. Rev. G. Burton Hodgson, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Members of the Ford union, and the Ford Bowling club, Detroit, will act as pallbearers. Mr. Heryk is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lena Bassett; his step-father, J. W. Bassett, and a brother, Albert Bassett Jr., all of St. Clair."

D. Kent Herzer
"St. Clair - D. Kent Herzer, 54, of St. Clair, disappeared July 20, 1999, as the result of a boating accident. He was born July 23, 1944. He is survived by his wife, Ina; three children, Sheila (Lance) Clouse, Brantley and Judson; his grandson, Andrew Clouse; his mother, Sally Runyan; and his brother, Karl (Stella) Herzer. He was preceded in death by his father, Ike Herzer, and sister, Sheila. Kent was a 1968 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College with degrees in economics and business administration. He was a brother in Phi Delta Theta; Evergreen Lodge 9 Free and Accepted Masons; Moslem Temple; A.A.O.N.M.S. of Detroit, and Scottish Rite. He retired from SEMCO Engery Services after 27 years of employment. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sailing, golfing and hunting. He was a past commodore of the Port Huron Yacht Club, a member of First United Methodist Church of St. Clair, St. Clair Golf Club and Blue Water Sportsman's Club. He served many community groups including the YMCA and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, St. Clair, with a luncheon to follow at the Port Huron Yacht Club. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of St. Clair, Port Huron Yacht Club Past Commodores Memorial Fund or the YMCA of the Blue Water Area."

Paul S. Higgs
"Memphis - Paul S. Higgs, age 77, of Memphis went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2000. He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Brownsville, Ky., a son to Sim and Addie Higgs. He married Judith S. Snyder in Brownsville, Ky., on Sept. 30, 1953. Mr. Higgs was employed by Uniroyal Tire and Rubber Co. as a truck driver and retired in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Memphis, the Teamsters Union, and served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army in WWII. Paul was a loving person who will be missed by many. He enjoyed farming and knew more about college basketball and the University of Kentucky basketball program than most people. Surviving are his wife, Judith; son, Mark Koleszar; sister, Aleta (Loyd) Lindsey of Brownsville, Ky.; special friends, Donna Gray and Margie Middleton Schuldt; and nieces and nephews, Marilyn Spencer of Capac, Julie Soye Thompson of Imlay City, Gordon Middleton of Armada and Paul Middleton of Avoca. Paul was preceded in death by his brother and two sisters. Services are at 11 a.m. Monday in the Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis, with Pastor Ronald W. Grasak officiating. Interment will be in Memphis Cemetery. Visiting is from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his son, Mark Koleszar, Gordon and Paul Middleton, Jeff and Jason Lindsey and Leo Simmons. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Memphis Building Fund."

George W. Higley
"Westland - George W. Higley, age 77, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Wayne, from cancer. He was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Jasper and had lived in Yale for more than 20 years. He married Theresa on Jan. 2, 1970, in Detroit. Mr. Higley was a farm boy who entered the Army with great pride. He was a big community contributer wherever he lived. Mr. Higley is survived by a daughter, Vickie of Roseville; a daughter, Marie of New Baltimore; a daughter, Judy Higley of Port Huron; daughters, Joanne and Jenelle King of Sandusky; and three grandsons, Josh, Jake and Zach. A private memorial will be held at a later date."

Nancy Higley
"The body of Mrs. Nancy Higley, whose death occurred at Ypsilanti last week, was brought to St. Clair for burial last Friday morning. The remains were accompanied by Mrs. H. W. Robertson, of Detroit, and Miss Frances Higley, of Ypsilanti, Mrs. Higley's daughters, and Mr. Leigh Robertson, the grandson. The interment was in the city cemetery. In the death of Mrs. Higley the last of the charter members of the Congregational church of St. Clair has passed away. She was among the membership of the church when it was first organized. The church was Congregational then Presbyterian, and flourishes now as Congregational again. Mrs. Higley was born at Newport, N. H., in 1816. She came to St. Clair at the age of 16 years, and lived here, surrounded by those who loved her, until a few years ago when she moved to Ypsilanti. Mrs. Hiram W. Robertson, of Detroit, and Miss Frances Higley, of Ypsilanti, are the surviving members of the family. Those 82 years of Mrs. Higley's life had been filled with all that ends to nobility of character. She was a woman of faith and honor and possessed high mental attainments. She died rich in the respect and love of all who knew her, and in the tender recollections and lasting gratitude of those whom her many acts of benevolence had blessed. The Ann Arbor Democrat, speaking of the death of Mrs. Higley, said: 'Mrs. Nancy Higley, of 109 S. Huron street, died at her home Tuesday morning from a stroke of paralysis that came on her Sunday morning. The deceased was to her 82nd year and had moved here from St. Clair several years ago. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. H. W. Robertson, of Detroit, and Miss Frances Higley, of this city. The remains will be taken to St. Clair for internment. The deceased had a most lovely character, having aided many, who could not afford to do so, to gain a higher education. She was prominently identified with charitable and church work, and in her Ypsilanti loses one of its most esteemed and highly respected ladies.'"

Elsie Louise Hilborn
"Port Huron - Mrs. Elsie Louise Hilborn, 90, of Port Huron died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Mercy Hospital. She was born March 31, 1910, in Peck to the late John and Mary (Blatt) Murray. She married Frank D. Hilborn July 31, 1937, in Peck. He died October 6, 1976. Elsie Hilborn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a volunteer with the Easter Seals and Handihelpers and was a Lioness helping the blind. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leland (Luanne) Brown of Port Huron; a son, Frank E. "Chip" Hilborn of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde (Susan) Manwarren of Waianae, Hawaii, and Mr. and Mrs. Dan (Leanne) Palmateer of North Street; two grandsons, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Vicky) Brown of North Street and Douglas Brown of Kimball; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice (Anne) Groat of Melvin; a sister-in-law, Laura Murray of Flint; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Hazel of Yale and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2000, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Rev. Robert Keller of Colonial Woods Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Memorials may be made to St. Clair County Humane Society."

"St. Clair - Funeral services for August Hildesheim, 90, former resident of St. Clair, who died Wednesday in Oakland county, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the T. R. Bower funeral home. Rev. James P. Hunter, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Mr. Hildesheim was born Jan. 28, 1866 in St. Clair. He farmed here most of his life until he moved to Ferndale in 1948. He is survived by a sister, Mr. Mamie Ingram, Bridgetown, Ont.; a brother, John Hildesheim, Ferndale; and several nieces and nephews."

Eugene W. Hill
"Eugene W. Hill, whose death occurred in this city last Wednesday was born near Mt. Clemens in 1846, but has been a resident of St. Clair since he was about 3 years old. From the time he was 16 he sailed with his father until, at the early age of 22, he became master of the John A. Saunders, which position he occupied until about 1877, when he and his father bought the Minnie Davis. In 1888 he bought an interest in the barge E. J. Vance, which he sailed for one year, and traded for the ill fated Midnight, which was wrecked in the terrific storm that swept over the great lakes Nov. 28, 1890 and cast ashore between Oscoda and Ta was a total loss. The papers narrating the event speak of Capt. Hill as being rescued in a terrible condition, as a result of which, his health was completely shattered. He sailed the schooner Crosthwaite for two seasons, but last season, he was not able to go aboard. In the latter part of August he was taken with a hemorrhage, which so far confined him to his house, that he was only able to come downtown twice since. For 6 months previous to his death he had not left the house and his disease was of such a nature that he could not lie abed, so he was compelled to sit in a chair, in which he died. Brave man that he was, through it all, he never complained; was patient, cheerful and spoke of his death without any apprehensions. The funeral was held at the Methodist church, Saturday, at 2 o'clock, Dr. McEldowney officiating in his usual effective manner. The deceased leaves a wife and two sons, with a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his loss. His family desire to thank the friends and neighbors in general for their many expressions of kindness and sympathy in their affliction, and particularly Capt. Chamberlain and family, whose ceaseless attentions were so very serviceable, as also the Marshal who so considerately removed the snow blockade on the day of the funeral."

Hershel A. Hill
"Port Huron - Hershel A. Hill, 61, of 1371 Pine River Road, died Sataurday, Feb. 23, 1980, in William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, after a long illness. He was born June 11, 1918, in Lambs and lived in Kimball Townsjhip for 33 years. Mr. Hill was a World War II U. S. Navy veteran. He was employed at Champion Bait until his retirement because of poor health in 1975. He married Theresa G. Carnahan in 1952 in Indiana. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Frank A. and Edward J., both of Prot Huron; two step-sons, Pat Carnahan and Glenn Carnahan Jr., both of Prot Huron; a daughter, Mrs. John (Grace) Raab, Hazel Park; a step-daughter, Mrs. Roger (Glenda) Rose, Smiths Creek; a step-brother, Ford Stark, Indana; two sisters, Ethel Lashbrook, Emmett, and Vonda Dimon, Marysville; a step-sister, Norma Caughel, Emmett, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral arrangement's are incomplete at the Arthur Smith Funeral Home, South Chapel."

Capt. Oscar Hill
Oscar Hill, son of John Hill who lives in this city, died of apoplexy at the home of his father on Friday, March 6, 1891, aged 39 years. He was born in Chesterfield, Macomb county, Michigan, and came to this place when but 3 years old. From the time he was old enough to work on a vessel up to the age of about 20 years he sailed with his father and after attaining this age became master of a vessel and continued sailing up to four years ago when his illness became of so serious a nature as to oblige him to give up the business entirely. His home was in Port Huron and about three weeks ago he was brought to this city for his mother to care for. He leaves a wife, father and mother to mourn his death. The funeral services were held at the home of his parents on Monday, Rev. G. N. Kennedy, officiating and the remains deposited in the city cemetery. The pall bearers were all lake captains, friends of the deceased. Several captains from Port Huron attended the funeral. The bereaved wife and parents hereby desire to tender their heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and friends for the extreme for the extreme kindness and many favors extended during the illness and death of Mr. Hill. Also to the choir for their excellent services."

"Marine City - Alice A. Hilla, 69, died sunday, Nov. 14, 1999. She was a homemaker with seven children, Marilyn Rumenapp, Sharon Furtah, Fern (Larry) Longeway, Penny Hilla, Raleigh Hilla, Kelly (Heather) Hilla and Neal (Tine) Hilla; 10 grandchildren, Thomas, Michaeal and Matthew Rumenapp, Dwayne Furtah and Billie Lynn Volkman, Carrie Rae McConnell, Cassandra and Karlenna Smith, Cecil Reyes Hilla, Time and Kyle Hilla and Jason Hilla; and five great-grandchildren, Bryenna Rumenapp, Ashley and Brook Volkman, and Chad and Hanna McConnell. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce; her parents, Thomas Miles and Ruth Lamonte-Miles; a son-in-law, William "Pee-Wee" Furtah; and her husband, Frederick (Reg) Hilla. James R. Himmel
"Port Huron - James R. Himmel, 62, of Port Huron died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, in the Port Huron Hospital Emergency Room. He was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Port Huron, the son of the late John and Dora Himmel. He married Leilaniaie Burns on July 12, 1958, in Joliet, Ill. Mr. Himmel served in the U.S. Marines. He was a carpenter and a truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Leilaniaie; his daughters, Kelly Himmel, Kerry Himmel, Kris Himmel; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Barone, all of Port Huron; two granddaughters, Destiny Himmel and Keely Barone; his sister and brother-in-law, Valarie (Tom) Brown of Florida; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Edna Himmel of Florida and Joe and Claire Himmel of Dearborn; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend to the family, Tom Vikstrom of Port Huron. Leo M. Himmel
"Brown City - Leo M. Himmel, age 85, of Brown City died May 25, 2000, in Sandusky. He was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Brown City to Leopold and Elizabeth Himmel. He married Agnes Benjamin on Oct. 21, 1940, in Bowling Green. She passed away in 1966. He married Ona Elston on June 26, 1976, in Brown City. She died in December of 1998. He was an inspector for National Twist Drill in Rochester. He also had worked for the Chevrolet Dealer in Brown City and was a millwright for Ford Motor Company. He is survived by six children, Doris Jean Geister of Brown City, Max (Kathleen) Himmel of Almont, Virginia (Don) McMann of Grand Blanc, Leo (Kathy) Himmel Jr. of Meridian, Ala., Shirley (Rodger) Wood of Brown City, Michael (Glenda) Himmel of Kalamazoo; a stepdaughter, Sharyn (Duncan) McKenzie; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; sisters, Kate Turner and Mary Tucker; brother, Nick Himmel; and a sister-in-law, Aletha Hoag. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Pete and John. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with Pastor Arthur Stone officiating. Lawrence O. Hindson
"Marine City - Lawrence Owen Hindson, age 76, of Marine City died Friday, July 14, 2000, in his home. He was born in Detroit on Feb. 22, 1924, the son of the late Edward and Cecilia Hindson. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the 298th Combat Engineer Batallion in five major campaigns. Larry earned the EAME theater ribbon with five bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. Larry married Rosemary Steinmetz on Aug. 26, 1946. He retired from Detroit Gasket in 1984 after 37 years of employment. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary; his children, Beverly Hindson, IHM of Dearborn, Dennis (Janet) Hindson of Fairborn, Ohio, Kathleen Hindson of St. Clair; grandchildren, Melissa Williams, Eric and Aaron Markel, Jennifer Cani, Jason and Patrick Hindson; great-granddaughters, Emily, Cheyenne, Gabrielle and Sydney; and sisters, Ann Tuttle and Virginia Silver. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Hindson. Services will be at noon Monday, July17, 2000, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. The Rev. George T. Brown will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home and from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. James Hinson
"Memphis - James (Hank) "Slim Jim" Hinson, 86, of Memphis, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998. He was born May 28, 1911 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of John and Ruth Ludington. He married Erma E. Rock in Port Huron on Jan. 8, 1954. He retired in 1975 from Chrysler Corporation, Mopar Division, Centerline Parts Plant, following 39 years of service. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television and his CB "handle" was Slim Jim. He is survived by his wife, Erma; children Jack (Joan) Hinson of Croswell, Joan (Harold) Compeau of Mt. Clemens, Mike (Bea) Rock of Imlay City, Luan (Frank) Perez of Armada, Debbie (Bill) Chalice of Richmond, Tony (Ellen) Hinson of Allenton, Penny Crumb, Pete (Rose) Rock, Wayne, (Kelly) Hinson, all of Memphis, Virginia Dean, Darlene Hubbard, Bill Lambert, Richard (Kate) Lambert, David Tanton, all of Port Huron; a daughter-in-law, Dawn Rock of Memphis; a sister, Barb (Lyle) Shafer of Port Huron; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. She was born July 23, 1922, in Yale, Michigan to the late Ray and Gertrude Richardson and was a lifelong area resident. She married William L. Hippie, Sr. on Jan. 5, 1946, in Port Huron. He died June 8, 1992. Mrs. Hippie had worked at the Chrysler Corporation, the St. Clair Rubber Company and pickle factories in Memphis and Croswell. She was a member of the Salvation Army Golden Agers and enjoyed music and playing bingo. She is survived by two sons, Mr. and Mrs. William L. (Connie) Hippie, Jr. of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hippie of Smiths Creek; five grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Bob (Sherry) Stewart, Kim Hippie, Wm. S. Hippie, Richard Hippie and Rachel Hippie; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Orpha) Richardson of Florida and a sister, Madelyn Watson of Jeddo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean Krafft, and a sister, Lorene Bechtel, and three brothers, Raymond. Harold and Gerald Richardson. "Mrs. Carrie Hock - Mrs. Carried Hock, wife of Simon Hock, died Friday night after an illness of a few days at her home in St. Clair. The deceased was born near Wallaceburg, Ont., on November 10, 1874, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leaguee. She is survived by a husband, two daughters, Bertha and Beatrice Hock, and two sons, Simon and Clifford Hock. The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence in St. Clair."

She was born April 15, 1912, in Port Huron to the late Joseph and Harriet Simpson and was a lifelong area resident. She married Joseph L. Hock on June 8, 1940, in Port Huron. He died in 1979. Mrs. Hock enjoyed playing solitaire and visiting on the phone with friends and relatives. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Linda) Hock and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald (Kathleen) Hock; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edison (Katherine) Adams and Virginia Grant; five grandchildren, Joseph D. Hock, Loretta Adams, George Adams, Jim Grant and Barbara Grant; three great-grandchildren, Kari and Justine Hock and Jeffery Morrell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Anne, Margaret, Ida, Charlotte and Mary, and two brothers, Fred and Joe. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. today in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at noon on Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Her nephews, evagelist Harold Hastings will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Sly, Patrick Neil, Chuck Simpson, George Adams, Jim Grant Jr., and Joseph Hock. "Port Huron - John G. Hodge, 31, Charmwood Drive, died Thursday in University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 22, 1947, in Port Huron, where he was a lifelong resident. He married Carol S. Mosure May 14, 1965, in Port Huron. Mr. Hodge was a graduate of Port Huron High School. He was a driver-salesman for Earl Smith Distributing Co. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kelly J. and Kristine S.; a son, Jeffrey S.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald J. Hodge; and a brother, Lee H., all of Port Huron; and two sisters, Mrs. Jean I. Pringle, Port Huron, and Mrs. Duane R. Minock, St. Clair. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. He was born March 24, 1926, in New York City, to the late Francis and Mary Hofman. He married Mary Ann Williams on April 11, 1964, in Chicago. Mr. Hofman served in the U.S. Navy and retired from General Motors in 1981. Jane Hogg
"Mrs. Jane Hogg was born in Scotland, April 1817, and died in St. Clair Jan. 29, 1892, aged 75 years. She came to this country with her two brothers, Chas, and Robt. McMillan and two sisters in the year 1842. She afterward married Dr. John Hogg, D. D., then pastor of Presbyterian church in Detroit now known as the Dickie church. A few years later they moved to Guelph, Ont., where he was pastor of a church 18 years or until his death. After her husband's death she went home to Scotland, where she remained until about four years ago, when she returned to Detroit and for the last two years has lived with the family of Mrs. Chas. McMillan in St. Clair town near this city, where she died. Her remains were last Monday taken to Detroit for interment."

"Smiths Creek - Mrs. Naomi G. (Dot) Hollis, 67, of 7494 Ravenswood Road, died Saturday in Port Huron Hospital after a long illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1910, in Comber, Ont. Her husband, Elton W. Hollis, died April 16, 1971. Mrs. Hollis was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, many years. She also worked at Marwood Manor as a private duty nurse. She served as a state delegate for the St. Clair County Democratic Party. Mrs. Hollis is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Benjamin (Patricia) Raymo, Smiths Creek; Mrs Joseph (Dorothy) Gerbasi, Corona, N.Y., and Mrs. Sue Kane and Mrs. James (Betty) Welbes, both of Memphis, Mich; a son, Edward E. Hollis, Smiths Creek; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Arthur Smith Funeral Home south chapel. The Rev. James Opferman, chaplain Mercy Hospital, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Port Huron. Visiting hours will be after 7 p.m. today. Gary A. "Marine City - Janet W. Holm, age 84, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999. She was born in Mancelona, Mich., on Aug. 12, 1915, a daughter to Leslie and Eveline (Beaton) Willoughby. She married Andrew J. Holm in Flint, Mich., on Oct. 17, 1937. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1983. Mrs. Holm was a very active member of the Marine City United Methodist Church. She enjoyed music and played the harp when she was young. She also enjoyed playing the piano. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Margaret J. Gleason of Port Huron; her son, James N. and his wife, Loretta, of Mount Clemens; and her three grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily Holm and Sean Gleason. Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Willoughby. A memorial service will be hel d on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Marine City United Methodist Church (corner of N. Main St. and Broadway) with The Rev. Dr. Donna J. Osterhout officiating. Urn interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, East China Township. Mrs. Holmes was born Jan. 16, 1870, in Wales Township, where she lived 11 years. A member of the the Boulevard Congregational church, Detroit, Mrs. Holmes also belonged to the Eastern Michigan Rebekah lodge No. 484, and was a life member of AniAta chapter No. 222, OES, Memphis. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hunter, and Mrs. Samuel Fitzpatrick, Detroit; two brothers, J. Arthur Lashbrook, Smiths Creek, and Willis A. Lashbrook Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews. The remains are in the Arthur Smith funeral home, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Roscoe Arthur, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Gospel church, Goodells, will officiate. "A home, which for five months had been brightened by as fair a baby fact as ever reflected sunshine, was darkened when Emily Hopkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hopkins, peacefully dropped into that last, long sleep Friday afternoon. The little one was completely tried out after a five weeks' siege with whopping cough. The falling leaves of Sunday morning mingled with beautiful flowers and provided a covering for the little sleeper while the Rev. Ralph Duff spoke words of consoling prayer."

"Mrs. H. A. Hopkins, 74, died at her home on N. Riverside Avenue, early this morning after an illness of 16 years. Pamelia Whiting Hopkins was born in St. Clair November 9, 1873, daughter of Justin R. and Emily Owen Whiting, and was a graduate of St. Clair High School. She was active in many civic organizations and was past president of the Ladies History Class, and a past regent of the Otsiketa Chapter of the DAR. Mr. Hopkins, who was for many years editor and publisher of the St. Clair Republican and postmaster of St. Clair, died in 1944. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Rosamonde Earle, a granddaughter, Miss Frances Earle, both of St. Clair; a sister, Mrs. William Hatton, Grand Haven, Mich.; two brothers Justin R. "Richmond - Ethel G. Hopp, 78, of Richmond died suddenly Friday, April 21, 2000, in her home. Mrs. Hopp was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Royal Oak to Loren and Mable Boenning Meirow. She married Norman Hopp in Almont on April 7, 1945. She and her husband owned and operated the Richmond Hotel from 1952 until 1969 and the Yale Hotel from 1969 to 1972. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Richmond; a member of the former Ladies Auxiliary Sewing Group; and she was a former avid bowler. She is survived by her husband, Norman; children, Alan (Sandra) Hopp of Houston, Texas, James (Lois) Hopp of Mio; her sister, Elizabeth Behnke of Lewiston; and grandchildren, Melissa, Kyle and Cory Hopp. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1962 and sister, Dorothy Renshaw. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the National Guard for seven years. He was a member of the American Legion. He also was a mechanic. Isaac Cook Horton
"Civil War Veteran Dies - Isaac Cook Horton Passes Away At the Residence of His Daughter - Isaac Cook Horton passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Jackson, 2115 Eleventh avenue, at 10 o'clock Sunday morning. Mr. Horton was born at Chaumont, Jefferson county, N. Y., April 27, 1839. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in Co. H, 10th N. Y. Heavy Artillery, serving until the close of the war when he was honorably discharged. Returning home he married Miss Helen A. Blodgett on Christmas day, 1865. They resided at Chaumont for about 14 years when they moved to Michigan, where he had resided until his death. Mr. Horton is survived by two sons H. D., of Filton, Mich., H. B., of this city, and one daughter, Agnes, with whom he had resided since the death of his wife six years ago. The funeral will be conducted by the G. A. R. Wm. Sanborn Post of which Mr. Horton was a member. Funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, 2115 Eleventh avenue. Interment in Lakeside cemetery. Commander W. O. Lee, of William Sanborn Post, G. A. R., requests all comrades to meet at Falk's undertaking rooms tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock sharp, to march in a body to the home of their deceased comrade."

Margaret E. Howard
"Port Huron - Margaret E. Howard, 77, of Port Huron, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 after a long illness. She was born June 18, 1922 in Wyndotte, MI, the daughter of the late Leon and Julia Dusellier. She moved to Port Huron as a very young child and lived here for 74 years. Margaret married Kenneth Howard on June 23, 1939. He died Jan. 20, 1988. Margaret retired from the Port Huron area schools in 1987 where she had been a paraprofessional for over 20 years. She deeply loved working with children of all ages and had a true talent for working with children with special needs. Margaret was a member of St. Mary Parish in Port Huron. She had the privilege of serving the Lord as an active member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Altar Society under the leadership of Father William Welch. She also worked on many parish functions such as Bingo, Catholic Services Appeal and Christian Service Commission. She volunteered at Marwood Manor for almost 15 years where she visited the sick and elderly and helped with the Saturday afternoon Mass. She was also a lifetime member of the League of Catholic Women. Margaret was also a life time member in the Michigan Association of Retired School Personal. She was also active in the community as a precinct delegate for the Democratic Party of which she was a member. She also volunteered for many agencies such as the Cancer Society, the American Lung Association and the March of Dimes where she was District Captain for the Mothers March Against Polio for many years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Suzan Howard of Fort Gratiot; her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Robert Huston of Plymouth, MI and Betty and John S. Prevost of Port Huron. Margaret is also survived by seven grandchildren, Leanne (Sean) Bell, Robert (Lesa) Huston, Christianna, John and Nicholas Prevost, Laura Groh and Katie Storck. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Anne Marie Huston and Jacob Michael Prevost. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herman L. Dusellier and her sister, Mary Elliott Neuman. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at 10 a.m. in St. family. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron. The Rev. Father Stanley Wyczawski will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Rosetta Howard
"Cincinnati, Ohio - Mrs. Rosetta (Cowan) Howard, wife of Milton Howard, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the age of 85, after a long illness. She was born May 23, 1915 in Deckerville, MI, to the late Robert R. Cowan and Mary (Burgess) Cowan. She attended Deckerville Rural School and Deckerville High. She managed and did waitress work at the Lexington Inn. She moved to Port Huron and lived here twenty years before her and her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She managed two apartment complexes in suburban Cincinnati before retiring. Mel and Rosetta loved to travel and did so until she became ill. She is survived by her husband, Milton; her daughter, Mrs. Cindi Trombly of New Baltimore; four sons Walter, Milton (Brenda), Patrick and David Howard; five grandsons and five granddaughters and several great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Roberta Mucha of Warren, MI and Mrs. Mary (Oscar) Durst; and a brother, Robert R. (Faye) Cowan of Fort Gratiot. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Mrs. Lorraine (Howard) McCardle of Jeddo and Mrs. Beulah (Walter) Durance of Sebring, FL. Rosetta gave her life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Port Huron at a later date."

C. N. Howell
"The sad intelligence has been received her of the death yesterday morning of C. N. Howell of St. Louis., brother-in-law of Mrs. E. J. Mather. He had been in failing health for about two years from the effects of that almost universal malady, la grippe, and his illness assumed a more alarming phase a few months ago when a southern trip was planned in the hope that the disease might be arrested in its course. He became worse, however, and the trip had to be abandoned. Mrs. E. J. Mather started for St. Louis on Tuesday, but not in time to reach there before Mr. Howell's death. "St. Clair - Irene Hrecho, 77, of St. Clair, died Saturday, July 8, 2000. She was born March 20, 1923, in Hamtramck. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Mary Hrecho; her grandchildren, Sean and Kristen; and two sisters, Jean and Stella. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today in the L.C. Friederichs and Son Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church."

Joseph M. Hubbard
"COMMITTED SUICIDE - Joseph M. Hubbard, Formerly of Port Huron, Died at Minneapolis on Friday Night. A dispatch from Minneapolis, Minn., announces the death of Joseph M. Hubbard, formerly of this city, by suicide. Mr. Hubbard was a brother of C. B. Hubbard, the dentist. Mr. Hubbard engaged a room at the Windsor Hotel on Wednesday last. He was found dead in bed on Friday night. He was a grain speculator, and had met with several reverses of late, and it is believed that led him to take his own life. On his person was found a letter requesting that he be buried by the Masons. Mr. Hubbard has a wife in the asylum at London, Ont., and a son, W. E. Hubbard, in Detroit. For years he was a member of the customs force under John P. Sanborn. He was a jovial gentleman, and his many friends in this city will be pained to hear of his death. Mr. Hubbard was a member of Pine Grove lodge, F. & A. M. This morning instructions were sent to Minneapolis to forward the remains to Port Huron at once. The funeral will be held under Masonic auspices. The funeral will be held from Thompson's undertaking rooms at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon."

Paul Huchins
"Marine City - Paul Huchins, 84., of Marine City, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on Aug. 15, 1915, the son of Pete Huchins and Emily Trombley Huchins. He married Sarah C. Dozier in St. Petersberg, Fla., on Oct. 14, 1968. Mr. Huchins was a 30-year resident of Marine City. He was employed by Chrysler Corp. as an engineer and retired from the company's Marysville plant. Paul frequently visited the Cherry Beach Senior Center in Marine City. Surviving are his wife, Sarah; daughters, Paulette V. Potts of Grosse Pointe Park and Victoria J. (Charles P.) LeBeau of California; grandchildren, Carol A. Potts, William L. Potts III, Jeff and Tim LeBeau; two great grandchildren; ex-wife, Lucy; and sisters, Mary Forbes of Florida, Rose Miller of St. Clair Shores, and Theresa Morris of Maryland. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. The Rev. Frederick A. Bodde will officiate. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting is from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home."

Rev. Thomas Gentle Huckle
"After an illness, continued with varying intermissions for considerable time the Rev. Thomas Gentle Huckle, late pastor of the M. E. church of this place, passed away last Monday between the hours of 5 and 6 a.m. Though skillful physicians and loving friends, with his stricken wife, bent patiently over him through anxious hours of pain, he could not be retained to his family and the church. For some two or three years his health had been giving away, having first been broken by a painful accident from which he had hardly recovered when it was repeated. The sufferings so trenched on his vitality that he was ill prepared for subsequent hardship to which he was called. Deceased was born in Luton, England, June 6, 1855, and was therefore aged thirty three years and nine months, lacking two days, at the time of his death. He was the son of religious parents, who are still living, and was himself converted and united with the Wesleyan church at an early age. When a youth of only sixteen years he was made a local preacher - his father occupying the same position before him -and since then has been engaged in the duties of a Watchman on the walls of Zion. His education was obtained at a private school, spending a final year, however, at Sunderland College, but being an unremitting student, he continued to store his mind with useful knowledge. After serving the novitiate of a local preacher he became what is known as second preacher, spending three years in the Isle of Wight, the loveliest spot of all Britian, from which he removed to Raunds, Wellsbury Circuit, where he met and married Miss Bertha Walker the latter part of September, 1880. In December of the following year, having advised with Dr. J. M. Buckley, then attending the Ecumenical Methodist Conference in London, they came to this country bringing their first child, three others having since been born on American soil. The summer previous to their arrival the destructive fires of 1880 swept Sanilac and Huron counties and at the ensuing conference Port Hope was left to be supplied. Applying to the Presiding Elder of the Port Huron District he was sent to that point where they remained three years enduring many privations. Thence he was stationed at Imlay City whence after two years he was stationed over the M. E. church of this city and was consequently in the midst of his third year,. During his second year his eyes became very troublesome for which he sought treatment in Detroit. He often labored beyond his strength and soon after the erection of the M. E. Parsonage constitutional difficulties appeared which, seeming grave, he sought the sanitarium at Clifton Springs, N. Y. where surgical operations were performed, after which he returned to his work. In a few weeks the difficulty returned which induced him to consult the medical skill of the metropolis. Journeying thither he took a berth in the Brooklyn M. E. Hospital where another operation was performed which was called very successful and feeling much improved he started for home, overjoyed with the hope that he was rid of his physical trouble and that he could now engage unhindered in his chosen work. The journey home is believed to have been taken before his strength was sufficiently restored and he never entered the pulpit or appeared in a religious meeting thereafter but was summoned, no doubt, not unprepared, before the Assembly of the First born in Heaven. The stricken widow and mother of four fatherless children, still so young, have the united sympathy of all who are aware of the circumstances. The funeral, from the M. E. church, at 11 a.m. yesterday was largely attended by both ministers and people. Several ministerial brethren were present from a distance, the Rev. L. P. Davis representing the Preachers' meeting of Detroit. - Card of Thanks - Mrs. Huckle desires to express gratitude most sincerely to her many friends for their numerous acts of exceeding kindness and thoughtfulness during her late trial. She would convey the assurance that Mr. Huckle was constantly full of expressions of gratitude for their goodness and often signified his pleasure that it was his rare good fortune to be among this people in his time of trouble. She hopes to retain in the future the friendship of all whose sympathies she now enjoys, as she expects to remain in St. Clair. - Bertha Huckle"

Harvey "Ersel" Hunter
"St. Clair - Harvey (Ersel) Hunter, 69, of 6988 Trumble Road, died Tuesday, June 1, 1982, in Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Smiths Creek, and was a longtime St. Clair resident. He married Edna Delor Aug. 26, 1944, in Smiths Creek. Mr. Hunter retired in 1975 from the Empire tool Co., Memphis. He is survived by his wife; a daughter Mrs. Patricia Love, St. Clair; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Maybell) Still, Smiths Creek; two brothers, Cecil, Russell, Ky., and Harley, Smiths Creek; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Merlin L. Trumble Colonial Chapel Funeral Home-St. Clair Highway Chapel. The Rev. James Olah of the Wadhams Baptist Church, Port Huron, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visiting is from 7 7o 9 p.m. today and noon to 9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice."

Hazen F. Hunter
"Goodells - Hazen F. Hunter, 57, of 2645 Goodells Road, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1989, in Port Huron Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Hunter was born April 14, 1923, in Kimball Township and was a life long area resident. He was employed by Grand Trunk Railroad, Flint, as a general agent for more than 34 years. He served with the Navy in the Pacific theater during Word War II. He was a member and past master of Smiths Creek Masonic Lodge 491. He was a member and patron of Mount Vernon Chapter 461, Order of Eastern Star. He was active in Tuesday and Friday Masonic Bowling Leagues. Mr. Hunter married Mildred Bowie Oct. 2, 1943, in Cumberland, Md. He is survived by his wife; a son, Brian T., Goodells; three daughters, Ruth Dodge, Pontiac, Diane Robbel, Topeka, Kan., and Mary Williams, Smiths Creek; and three sisters, Pauline Mollan, Smiths Creek, Marie Sheffer, Dryden, and Bernice Wildon, Marysville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Arthur Smith Funeral Home-South Chapel, Port Huron. The Rev. Eugene Mayhew, of Mount Pleasant Gospel Church, will officiate. "Mrs. Laura Ann Hunter, 68, of 1255 Burns road, Smiths Creek, wife of Martin S. Hunter, died today in Mercy Hospital after a one month illness. She was born June 6, 1887, in Wales Township. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Mt. Pleasant Community church, of the Ladies Aid society of church, of Smiths Creek chapter No. 461, OES, and of the Wales Township Extension club. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. John Mollan and Mrs. Clayton Sheffer, both of Smiths Creek, and Mrs. William T. Wilson Jr., Marysville; a son, Hazen Hunter, Goodells; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Boadway, Memphis, and Mrs. William Merrell, McGregor; four granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. The remains are in the family home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mt. Pleasant church with Rev. Roscoe Arthur, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery."

"Goodells - Mildred R. Hunter, 67, died Aug. 27, 1991, in Port Huron Hospital. She was born April 19, 1924, in Port Huron. She married Hazen F. Hunter, Oct. 2, 1943, in Cumberland, Md. He died Aug. 15, 1980. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Mount Vernon Chapter 461 Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by three daughters, Ruth Dodge of Waterford, Diane L. Robbel of Clear Lake, Texas and Mary A. Hunter of Smiths Creek; a son, Brian T. Hunter of Goodells; four grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert E. Bowie of Marysville. "Port Huron - Mrs. Violet Lorine Hunter, 85, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 22, 2000. She was born Nov. 24, 1914, in Sandusky to the late John and Ella (Hirsch) Chisholm. She married Russell Hunter on July 3, 1960, in Port Huron. Mrs. Hunter was a devoted wife and enjoyed traveling. William G. Hurst
"St. Clair, April 17 - William G. Hurst, 82, a resident of St. Clair Township since he was three years old, died early today in his home at 3796 Division road. A farmer most of his life, Mr. Hurst was born in Courtright, Ontario., March 13, 1871. He married Susan Matthews in 1906. She died 10 years ago. Mr. Hurst retired at the age of 75. He was a lifetime member of Evergeen lodge No. 9, F. & A. M., St. Clair. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Hilbert Hartlein; a grandson, Robert Hartlein, both of St. Clair; four sisters, Mrs. Edith Montgomery and Mrs. George Meiselbaach, both of St. Clair, Mrs. Herman Gracey, Smiths Creek, and Mrs. Ernest Green, Detroit; a brother, George Hurst, St. Clair, and 10 nieces and nephews. Remains are in the T. R. Bower funeral home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Frank Hartley, pastor of the First Methodist church, St. Clair, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Evergreen lodge will conduct graveside rites."

Mrs. Andrew Husel
"Mrs. Andrew Husel, whose death occurred March 2nd, was born in Bavaria Germany, Dec. 25th 1832. In the year 1850 she emigrated with a company of 13 others and all arrived in the village of St. Clair in October of the same year; they all settled in St. Clair and vicinity. Among them were the Husel family consisting of father, three sons and a daughter: the late Andrew Eber; the grandparents of Chares Husel; the late Anton Meyer, his sisters and others. All have passed away except the husband of the deceased and his sister, Mrs. Lanzer. She was married to Frederick J. Husel in November, 1850, but their married life was of short duration he dying in 1851 in his 33d year, his being the ninth grave in the cemetery now so well filled. The 3rd of December, 1852, she was married to her present husband with whom she lived for more than 45 years in the happiest and most devoted relationship of married life. In 1851 she joined the German Methodist church and in '62 she became a member of the M. E. church of St. Clair to which she has been faithful and ever sought to serve her Lord in word and deed. She was the mother of seven children all of whom are living except one and mourn with their father their irreparable loss: Frederick J. of St. Clair town, Charles Z. with his father on the old homestead, Mrs. M. F. Washburn of Cooperstown, N. Dakota, Mrs. Warren Parsons who died in September, 1883 Mrs. G. Q. Bathey of Central City, Col., Andrew H. of China township, and Mrs. Chas. L. Cooper of Victor, Col. Those from a distance as well as those near by attended their mother in her last illness with the most tender and loving care and did all that could be done to alleviate her severe sufferings. Through all her suffering, not a murmur escaped her lips. She bore her affliction and pain with the greatest patience putting her trust in God and placing her burden in the arms of her loving Savior. the entire family was with her with the exception of Mr. Bathey who was unable to be here on account of business affairs. Her sons and sons-in-law by her request acted as pall bearers. - Card of thanks - The family wish to thank all the friends and the choir for all their kindness through all their affliction."

Ernest Husel
"St. Clair, Sept. 5—Ernest Husel, 71, died late Saturday in St. Clair Community Hospital of burns received Sept. 8, when a tractor on which he was working exploded on the Peter Zimmer farm, 6165 Rattle Run road. Mr. Zimmer, 70, who was working with Mr. Husel at the time, is still in serious condition in the hospital. Both suffered extensive first and second degree burns. It is believed that a spark ignited an accumulation of gas fumes in the tractor’s carburetor, causing the explosion. Mr. Husel, who was born March 2, 1881, in Kalamazoo, lived with his mother on a farm in China Township until her death about 10 years ago. He made his home with the Zimmer family since then. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Remains are in the L. C. Friederichs and Son funeral home, St. Clair, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Frank Hartley, minister of the First Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery."

James L. Hyde
June 18, 1948 - Aug. 20, 1999
In Memory - "His playful jokes and childish pranks, made me wonder if he was crazy.
He sometimes skipped out of work to eat, but was no where close to lazy.
He had the most amazing eyes, like a crisp blue autumns sky.
But they'll never shine the same no more, he's gone, he said goodbye.
The cancer invaded his body, and hit him like a rock.
But he tried not to show his future plans, were now held under a lock.
He battled so hard like a true soldier, through many, many years.
Then last year he was defeated, but never showed his tears.
He's been gone for about a year, almost to the day.
There's so much I wish we could have done, so much stilll left to say.
I cherish all my memories, the good times and the bad.
I lost the greatest uncle, my friend and my stand in Dad.
Sadly missed by his nieces, Courtney, Katie, Megan and Ashley Hyde."

"Carsonville - Kenneth Clark Hyde, 87, of Carsonville, died Thursday, March 12, 1998 in McKenzie Memorial Hospital, Sandusky, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1910 in Lexington Twp., Sanilac County. He married Florence E. Jones on Aug.24, 1940 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on July 14, 1996. Mr. Hyde was a retired machinist. He is survived by three daughters, Diana Kitchen of Marysville, Janeen Hyde of Lake Villa, Ill. and Darleen (Ernest) Hamm of Port Huron; three grandchildren, Michael Kitchen, Traci Riddell and Jessica Hamm. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Lexington. The Rev. Mark P. Thomas of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Huron, will officiate. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2 to 6 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to Arthritis Foundation."
