"St. Felicity was the early Catholic Church in what is now the Marine City area. It was a log building built by George Cottrell on his property south of today's Marine City in Cottrellville Township. It was washed away by a flood in the 1830's after which Holy Cross Church was built on Catholic Point in Marine City (also called Newport and Belle River at that early date.) In the early days of settlement, the priest would ride from community to community, from farm to farm, to preform the sacraments of baptism and marriage, etc. These registers are in Sacramental Books which are not available to the public but are located at Holy Cross Church in Marine City and St. Mary's Church in St. Clair. There may have been a very early burial ground on the present site of Holy Cross Church which predates Holy Cross Cemetery on Chartier Street. Interestingly enough, there was another early church called St. Felicity's, located on the shores of Lake St. Clair in today's St. Clair Shores, Macomb County. It is said that church was also destroyed in a flood."
