William Thomas Helms son of James Patton Helms and Susan DeBusk was born 23 May 1884 in Brown County, Texas and died 21 Oct 1943 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. He married Sally Pearson Underwood daughter of George Washington Underwood and Eliza Ann Rodgers 14 Jan 1912 at Acker Place in Longhorn Valley, Fisher County, Texas. She was born 15 Dec 1893 in Kent County, Texas and died 02 Sep 1970 in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas. They are both buried at Cottonwood Flat Cemetery, Scurry County, Texas.

He followed his brothers Jasper, Camel, Lige and Joe and left Coleman County, Texas and settled in Cottonwood-County Line communities in the early 1900's. He was a baptist. He donated the land for the Baptist Tabernacle. When the church disbanned, he moved the building to use as a barn. They ranched and farmed in the Fisher and Scurry Counties. He died following surgery.

She attended school at Cedar Bayou south of Riverdale. After the death of William Thomas Helms she stayed on the ranch for a number of years before moving to Rotan. Five of her nine children lived to become adults.
