John Elias Helms, son of James Patton Helms and Susan DeBusk, was born 21 Oct 1867 in McMinn County, Tennessee and died 23 Feb 1938 in Ysleta, El Paso County, Texas. He married Julia Ann Francis Westerman, daughter of John Wilson Westerman Sr. and Rhode 'Rody' Jane Harris, on 11 Mar 1886 in Cisco, Eastland County, Texas. She was born 17 Dec 1869 in Collin County, Texas and died 09 Mar 1955 in El Paso, El Paso County, Texas. They are both buried on their ranch at Sierra Alto Ranch, Hudspeth County, Texas. |
They are buried in the family cemetery on Sierra Alto Ranch, Hudspeth County, Texas. The ranch is located 38 miles east of El Paso and 7-1/2 miles north of U.S. Highway 62, (the highway to Carlsbad, New Mexico). When he owned the ranch it was 1,123,200 acres.
