He married Ida Lee Hudnall daughter of Abijah Houston Hudnall and Mollie L. Clegg. She was born 21 Jun 1935 in Stonewall County, Texas and died Mar 2014. They are both buried at Cottonwood Flat Cemetery, Scurry County, Texas.

Donald Wray Helms, 75, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Victory Church, 2943 South 6th Street with Pastor Randy Estes officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood Flat Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.

Mr. Helms was born on July 6, 1934, in Fisher County, Texas to Jim Wray and Tessie Helms. He was a Building Superintendent most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Helms of Abilene; three sons, Gary Don Helms and wife, Nellie of San Angelo, James Wray Helms and Joe Sam Helms, both of Abilene; three daughters, Vickie Diann Muller and husband, Horst of Ramstein, Germany, Billie Gay Helms of Abilene and Nora Sue Jordan and husband, Paul of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
