Homer Patton Helms  son of Fielden Jasper Helms and Mary Mercie Keller was born 30 Nov 1893 in Coleman County, Texas and died 1946 in Scurry County, Texas. He married Loleet Roper in 1933. She was born 02 Oct 1904 and died 02 Oct 1904 and is buried in Varga Chapel Cemetery, Bowser, San Saba County, Texas.  He is buried in Cottonwood Flat Cemetery, Scurry County, Texas.

He moved with his family in 1898 to their new home in Scurry County, Texas. The moved to rough unbroken land with no improvements. He helped clear and maintain the ranch. He joined the Army and served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I with  the 5th Engineers, Company C of the 7th Division. He took his training at Camp Merritt before sailing for Europe aboard the H.H. Mallory. He landed in Brest, France on 12 August 1918. They went to Minorville in Meurth at Moselle Department where they took over German trenches in the Puvenelle Sector, a part of the St Miihiel Sector. He returned to the states aboard the U.S.S. George Washington. President Woodroe Wilson was also on board. He was discharged in June 1919 and returned to the ranch. She taught school at Lloyd Mt and thy lived at the ranch for awhile. They later moved to a house on the ranch, south of the Cottonwood School. She taught many years at Hobbs, Fisher County, Texas.
