Granville William "Bill" Cowan son of Carroll Cowan and Veda L. Keller was born 06 Mar 1921 in Coleman County,Texas  and died 10 Aug 1945 Near Honshu, Japan. He married Geneva Jane Byles daughter of James Henry Byles and Ethel Mae Cowell 01 Nov 1942 in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. She was born 24 Jan 1923 in Reading, Hillsdale County, Michigan and died 17 Apr 1987 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.

 He joined the US Navy and was commissioned a Naval Aviator in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1942.  He was on a bombing raid from Admrial Halsey's 3rd Fleet over Honshu, Japan when he was lost in the Pacific Ocean on August 10, 1945 

There is another memorial marker for Lt Cowan  located at Honolulu Memorial Cemetery.
