Charlie Gabriel DeBusk moved his familiy from Lincoln County, New Mexico to Portales, Roosevelt County, New Mexico. At the time he moved to Portales the major industry was peanuts and yams. A side note, Portales is the Spanish word for porches. The area was named from a nearby campsite where spring waters gushed from a series of caves that resmble porches of a Mexican pueblo style house.
