St Charles Church, located in Newport, Berlin Twp, Monroe Co. Newport is a small farming community, settled mostly by French Canadians. The land for St Charles Church was donated by Frank Masserant Sr who came to Newport from France in about 1854. There are two cemeteries for the church. The old cemetery is located south of the church on Dixie Hwy. There are only a few headstones left, even though it is well cared for. The newer cemetery is north of the church on Dixie Hwy.
