This is a picture of my great great grandfathers grave at St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery in Monroe, Michigan. His name was Ludwig Knab and he was born 24 February 1793 in Baden-Wuettemberg, Germany. He died on 3 april 1874 in Monroe, Monroe County Michigan. He was married to Madeline Zahnlocker Knab
born 1801 and died 1951. They had 5 children. Madeline is also buried at St Pauls but we have been unable to find a stone for her. A very rough translation of the inscription at the bottom of the head stone reads, "The graves open up to honor, home and the world. Today you are still taking care of your home but at the dark front gate. The waning day extinguishes your life." words were either a very old dialect or person sculpting the stone was not literate.
