Upcoming Projects

Area Veterans Project

The Museum is currently at work on a project to recognize area residents who have served or are serving in the military, in the defense of the nation.

Using questionnaires completed by veterans or their families, the Museum intends to build a database of all veterans who reside or resided in Fremont, Dayton, Watertown, or Rich Townships. Extended plans include publication of a book to chronical the lives of our veterans.

If you are a veteran from this area or a descendant family member and have not yet completed a questionnaire or given your story to the museum please download the questionnaire and print it. Then fill it out and send it (along with any other material that you may wish to provide) to the museum. Contact information is provided under "Contact Us" in this web site.

Buildings sought for antique village

The Mayville Historical Society has a long range goal of populating some of the museum grounds with buildings from a bygone era. Period or replicated buildings on the grounds allow the museum to present certain indoor artifacts in a more natural setting in a building that is appropiate for their original use. Visitors are able to stroll about a small town setting of an earlier time, very much like Mayville or other area villages.

Currently, the site includes a small, log cabin home and outhouse, a one room school house, and a train depot. While the depot currently serves as the museum's reception and display site, the log cabin and school house are appointed as one might find it in our pioneer times.

The Historical Society is especially desirous of obtaining a small, frame type barn and a small church or chapel.

If you have buildings that you think might be suitable and wish to donate them to the Mayville Historical Society or if you wish to make a cash donation toward this project, please contact the Society. Contact information can be found on the "Contact Us" page.

The Mayville Area Museum of History and Genealogy is Chartered as a 501c3 entity. Contributions and donations to the museum are tax deductable under terms specified by tax law.
