Dorothy D. Bateman, 87, of 1265 Wheatland Ave., died at home Saturday afternoon after a brief illness.
Mrs. Bateman was a member of Calvary Church. Earlier, she taught Sunday school classes at the churches where her husband was pastor.
She enjoyed needlework.
Born in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Anna Lawson Davis.
She was married to the late Rev. John C. Bateman.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. J. Keith, married to Sharon Bateman, of York, Neb.; a daughter Bette B., married to Gerald L. Ranck of Lancaster; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Zittle of Downingtown, Beverly Kieffer of Kimberton and Roberta Lane of Tucson, Ariz.

Charles Bachman, thirty-three, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Lancaster general Hospital of complications. He resided at 1122 Wheatland ave. He was born October 23, 1900, in Strasburg, and was the son of the late Ellis and Lillian Arnold Bachman. He had been a resident of this city since 1917, prior to that time he lived in Strasburg. He was employed in the engineering department of the Conestoga Traction company for twelve years. He is survived by his wife who was Ethel Zittle, of Edisonville, before her marriage; one son, Charles, Jr., at home; and the following brothers and sisters: Robert, Indianapolis, Indiana; Harold, Sharon; Barbara, at home; Mrs. Carl Moore, Erie; Stanley, Erie; and Donald, Strasburg.
The funeral will be held privately from the late home Saturday at 2 p.m. (D.T.). Friends may call at the parlors of Fred F. Groff, Inc. 234 W. Orange st., Friday evening from 7 to 9 o�clock.

Ethel M. Bachman, 92, of 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive, Winchester, Va., died at home Sunday after a long illness.
Formerly of Strasburg, she moved to Winchester in 1988.
Mrs. Bachman retired in 1972 as office manager of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg.
Born in Strasburg Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry H. and Annie Book Zittle.
Her husband, Charles Bachman, died in 1934.
Surviving are a son, Charles, husband of Jacqueline Supulski Bachman of Winchester; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jacob F. Bachman, sixty-five, of West Lampeter township, died Thursday morning at 3 o�clock at his home of an apoplectic stroke. He is a farmer and has lived in West Lampeter township for the last twenty-five years. He is survived by his wife who was Laura Zittle before marriage and two brothers, Harry, of Lancaster; and John of Lampeter. Brief services will be held at the home Sunday morning at 9:30 o�clock followed by public services at 10 o�clock at Longenecker�s Reformed Mennonite church. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call Saturday evening between 7 and 9 o�clock.

Mrs. Laura D. Bachman, widow of the late Jacob F. Bachman, wll-known former resident of West Lampeter township, near Longenecker�s Church, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Enos H. Kreider, in Lancaster, with whom she resided, Sunday morning at six o�clock. She had been in failing health for some time from complications. Mrs. Bachman was a daughter of the late Josiah and Hettie Zittle and was sixty-four years old. She was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church.
Beside Mrs. Kreider, she is survived by another sister, Mrs. Eleanor Z. Good, of Lancaster.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o�clock at the home and at 10:30 o�clock at Longenecker�s Reformed Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Bowermaster, eighty-eight, widow of Edwin H. Bowermaster, died Sunday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Reed, Quarryville RD, Bart Twp. She was a daughter of the late Cyrus and Catherine Huber Zittle, Strasburg Twp., and a member of Longenecker's Reformed Mennonite Church.
Surviving are these sons and daughters: Edna, wife of Charles L. Reed, with whom she resided; Mary, wife of George Werntz, Coatesville; Abraham C. Bowermaster, Mrs. Fannie A. Williams, Edwin H. Bowermaster, Lancaster R7. Twenty-one grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Fisher and Mrs. Mary Weaver, both of Lancaster, and Adda, wife of William Pontz, Strasburg, also survive.

Edwin H. Bowermaster, 84, of Red Rose Manor and formerly of Atglen died Monday night at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.
He retired as a farmer in 1953. He later worked for 17 years as a custodian at the Octorara Area High School.
He was an avid pool player at the Coatesville Senior Center.
Bowermaster was the husband of M. Grace Lehman Bowermaster, who died in 1961.
Born in Bart Township, he was a son of the late Edwin H. and Annie Elizabeth Zittle Bowermaster.
He is survived by three daughters, D. Arlene, wife of Martin Pfautz of Newmanstown R2, Barbara E., wife of C. Edward Baylor Jr. of Christiana, and Mary Grace Steen of Lancaster; three sons, Edwin H. Harry F. Good, sixty-three, a well-known farmer, of near Fertility, West Lampeter township, died Fridat morning at 3 o�clock of heart and kidney trouble after an illness of some months at his home. He was born in Providence township, a sonof the late Amos and Catherine Huber Good. For the past twenty-eight years he was engaged in farming near Fertility, and for a while in the vicinity of Landis Valley. He was a member of the Mennonite church for many years. He is survived by his wife who was Miss Eleanor Zittle, of West Lampeter township, before marriage and these children: E. Vernon, of near Lititz; Lester Z., Elizabethtown; Sylvan H., St. Louis; Parke H., Roseville; Violet E., wife of Lester Burkholder, of this city; Ida M., wife of Chester Eckman, New Providence; Gladys E., wife of Earl Mellinger, at home; also 13 grandchildren, a brother, Amos Good, East Lampeter township; and two sisters, Mrs. John Barr, Belton, Mo.; and Mary E. Park H. Good, fifty-six, 379 E. Roseville Road, died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday at the Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of four weeks.
Good had been a foreman in the printing department of the Keener Manufacturing Co. since 1932. He was employed by the company for the last 34 years.
Born in West Lampeter Twp., Good was a son of the late Harry F. and Eleanora Zittle Good. He is survived by his wife, the former Bernice Rhoads, a son Marlyn H. Good, Lititz R3, and a daughter, Doris June, wife of Kenneth W. Sangrey, Manheim R2.
Six grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive:

Mary F. Harnish, 91, formerly of 416 Strasburg Pike, died Monday evening at Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, after a lengthy illness.
A homemaker, Mrs. Harnish farmed with her husband for more than 50 years.
She was a member of Reformed Mennonite Church.She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and canning. A birdwatcher, she especially enjoyed owls.
Born in Smoketown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob L. and Katharine Zittle Fisher.
Her husband, Reuben N. Harnish, died in 1987.
Surviving are a son, Reuben H., husband of Roselyn Harnish of Conestoga, a daughter louise H., wife of James M. Shreiner of Lititz; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A son, Martin F., preceded her in death.

She was the wife of Landis C. Hess. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last June.

She was a member of Marticville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Society.

Paul Z. Kreider Dies at Age 62
Paul Z. Kreider, 62, of 1494 Hollywood Drive, died Monday at 6 a.m. in General Hospital after an illness of four months.
He was employed by Armstrong Cork Co. in the salary administration department.
A member and past president of the Optimist Club, he was named "Optimist of the Year" in 1952.
Born in Lancaster, a son of the late Enos H. and Ida Zittle Kreider, he was a member of the Church of Our Father Unitarian.
Surviving are his wife, Verne Callihan Kreider, one daughter, Cynthia K., wife of Albert T. Bowyer, Fort Wayne, KY; two grandsons, a brother, Stanley, Pinellas Park, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. L. C. Moore, Newark, Del.

James Hershey Leaman, 88, of 15270 Cider Press Road, Waynesboro, died of natural causes Saturday at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Although he suffered from polio as a child, he overcame the handicap to become a very successful businessman.
He owned and operated Leaman's Seed Store on West Main Street, Waynesboro, from 1940 to 1969. In 1965, he opened Leaman's Garden Center in Hagerstown and operated the business until his retirement in 1976.
He served on the Waynesboro school board and was a member of Elks Lodge 731, Waynesboro. He was well known in the Waynesboro area for his Easter decorations, and he sold sweet corn and homemade honey from his home.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Jacob C. and Fannie Zittle Leaman.
He was married one year to Geraldine Rogers Leaman. He was previously married to the late Dorothy M. Pugh Leaman and the late Louise H. Reese Leaman.
Surviving beside his third wife are a daughter, Linda Stevenson of Waynesboro; a son, Stephen of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edith Conrad of Lititz and Kathryn Flaig of Union, Ky.
He was preseded in death by a daughter, Doris McCrea; two sisters, Thelma Smith and Elizabeth Morrison Haus; and four brothers, Alvon, John, Richard and Robert.

Robert Clayton Leaman, 58, a former Lancaster County resident who designed computer software for NASA and IBM, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, April 11, at his home, 414 Blessing Ranch Road, Liberty Hill, Texas.
Formerly of Chambersburg and Scotland, Franklin County, he had been ill for some time.
He was the husband of Ruth Dagenhart Leaman. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary last July 4.
Leaman, who spent his early years in Lancaster, was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and Shippensburg University.
He created computer software programs for NASA's Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle systems., earning many honors for his work.
Most recently, he designed software for IBM, for which he also achieved recognition.
Born in Lancaster, he was a son of Robert Zittle Leaman and Mary Alexander Leaman, Boiling Springs.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by one daughter, Laura Jane Leaman, Liberty Hill, Texas; one son, Keith Adam Leaman, Liberty Hill, Texas; three brothers: Wade A., husband of Rosemarie Rockwell Leaman, Chardon, Ohio, Harold R., husband of Margaret Ann Friesen Leaman, Newville; and Roy M., husband of Maryl Lee Friesen Leaman, Boiling Springs; and two sisters, Nancy L., wife of Eugene A. Bert, Fairfield; and Mary L., wife of Robert L. Sheaffer, Newville.
A memorial service for Leaman was held Saturday in Liberty Hill, Texas.

Donald M. Ober, 69, of 1151 Millwood Road, Willow Street, died of natural causes Monday morning in the emergency room of Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
Ober was a retired production worker at Alcoa. He also was a security guard at Root's Farmers Market, Penn Manor High SChool and Lampeter-Strasburg High School.
He was a Pennsylvania state constable in Pequea Township.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War and was a member of Millersville-Manor Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7294.
He was a charter member of New Danville Bible Evangelical Methodist Church, New Danville, and Promised Land Bible Camp, Conestoga.
A member of West Willow Fire Company, he was treasurer of West Willow Fire Police for 20 years and Pennsylvania Sate Fire Police for 17 years.
Ober was a member of Travelers Protective Association.
He was an avid model train collector and a graduate of the former East Hempfield High School.
Born in Martic Township, he was the son of the late Clarence G. Sr. and J. Irene Weinand Ober.
He was married to Flora Hess Ober.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughter, Cynthia R., married to John H. Zittle Jr. and Lori I., married to David C. Schmid, both of Lancaster, and Carol H., married to Pete M. Rodriguez of New Holland; two sons, Stephen D. married to Mary Beth Harvey Ober of New Providence, and Jacob C., married to Darla Church Ober of Ronks; 11 grtandchildren; a brother, Robert L., married to Joyce Myers Ober of East Petersburg, Jane M., married to Joseph Lee Murray of New Castle, Del., and Nancy I. married to David de Fernelmont of New Holland.

W. Stanley Pontz, 88, of Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, died Friday morning at the Mennonite after a long illness.
He worked at the former RCA Corp., in Lancaster. Later, he and his wife operated Pontz's Food Market on South Decayur Street, Strasburg, from 1946 to 1970.
He also worked for Alcoa in Lancaster and Witmer's IGA in Strasburg. After selling his store in 1970, he worked as a bank teller for nine years, followed by outside groundskeeping for eight years at the First National Bank of Strasburg.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as financial secretary, treasurer, trustee and conference delegate. He sang in the choir for 40 years, taught Sunday School and, along with his wife, was the oldest of four generations to participate in the annual Christmas pageant.
He graduated in 1931 from Strasburg High School.
He was a member of the Strasburg Lions Club for more than 60 years, where he served as president and was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. He belonged to the International Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge 361, in Strasburg for mored than 50 years.
He volunteered with Paradise Meals on Wheels and received the New Era Red Rose Award.
An avid bowler, he competed in the Christiana and Garden Spot Leagues in Strasburg.
Born in Edisonville, Strasburg Township, he was the son of the late William Ross and Adda Zittle Pontz.
His wife, Gladys Alta Koch Pontz, died Feb 4.
Surviving are a son, William S., married to Donna Miller Pontz of Strasburg; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert C., maried to Marie Helm Pontz of Strasburg.

Alvin Peterson, 68, of 46 Blue Jay Drive, Stevens, died at home Sunday after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Patricia L. Zittle Peterson. They observed their 34th anniversary in December.
Born in Relief, N.C., he was a son of Lassie Barnett Peterson of Green Mountain, N.C., and the late Clayton Peterson.
He worked for Mill Print in Downingtown for 22 years and for Reynolds Metal Co. in Downingtown for 11 years, retiring in 1992.
A member of the Paper Workers Union Local 35, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving besides his wife and mother are a son, A. Scott of Narvon; three daughters, Lee Ann and Alice L., both at home, and Joanne, wife of John Melchiorre of Honey Brook; and two grandchildren.
He is also survived by three brothers, Mack, J.E. and Walt, all of Green Mountain; and seven sisters, Julia, Janie, wife of Conley Jones, and Nora, wife of Cecil McCurry, all of Green Mountain, Donna, wife of J.D. Maude Z. Schroll, 90, of 224 N. Barbara St., Mount Joy, died Tuesday at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, where she had resided for three weeks.
She had been under a physician's care, according to a family spokesman.
She was the wife of the late Robert F. Schroll, who died in 1978.
A 1923 graduate of the former Lampeter High School, Mrs. Schroll worked at the former Leinbach's department store in the 1930s. She was in charge of the candy department at the North Queen Street store.
She was also a homemaker.
A member of the Mount Joy Church of God since 1947, Mrs. Schroll was active in women's ministries and in the Church of God Seniors.
Born in Strasburg Township, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Mary Weaver Zittle.
Surviving are a son, Robert F. II, husband of Julia Schroll, of Mount Joy, and three grandchildren.

A. Mylin Weaver, sixty-six, of Lampeter, died at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lancaster General Hospital of pneumonia after an illness of three weeks. He was a son of the late Maris B. and Hettie Zittel Weaver, of Lampeter. He was a member of the Young Republican�s Club and the Willow Street Reformed Church. A sister, Miss Esther Weaver, at home, survives.

J. Maurice Weaver, seventy-six, Franklin St., Strasburg, died yesterday at 2:55 a.m. in Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of three months.
He was a son of the late Jacob and Hettie Weaver Weaver of Strasburg Twp. and was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church. A farmer in Strasburg Twp. for many years, he was employed lately by the Landis Greenhouse in Strasburg.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Zittle Weaver; a son, Lloyd M., Ronks; a daughter, Irma, wife of Horace Miller, 18 Strasburg Pike; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, the Rev. Clyde Weaver, Strasburg; and a sister, Christie, wife of the Rev. Ray Eshelman, Paradise R1.

West Lampeter Resident Dies
Maris B. Weaver, Well Known Township Office Holder Succumbs, Aged 71
Maris B. Weaver, well known resident of West Lampeter township died yesterday afternoon at his home, Walnut Lawn aged 71 years.
The deceased had been in failing health for several years. He has been a member of the county prison board for a number of years and during his life held nearly every township office. He was a Republican in politics.
His wife, who before marriage was Miss Hettie Zittle, survives, as also do the following children: A. Mylin Weaver, and Miss Esther M. Weaver, both at home; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Jennie Hottenstein, Lancaster; John Weaver, Lancaster; Charles Weaver, West Chester; Frank Weaver, Smyrna; and Mrs. Samuel Harting, of Germantown.
Funeral services will be held at the late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o�clock in charge of Rev. Jacob L. Kreider. Interment will be made in Longenecker�s cemetery.

Aldus Zittle, 82, Quarry Manager at Edisonville, Dies
Aldus Zittle, eighty-two, Edisonville, died at 5:20 a. m. yesterday at the Lancaster General Hospital. A son of the Late Cyrus and Catherine Huber Zittle, he managed a stone quarry in Strasburg Twp. for 50 years. He was a member of the Strasburg Twp. School Board for 20 years, the Strasburg Fire CO., and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Estella Heidelbaugh; a daughter, Jean, wife of Eric Mayer, Newark, Del.; four grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters; Annie, widow of Edwin Bowermaster, Georgetown; Christian Y., Mount Joy; Catherine, widow of Jacob L. Fisher, Lancaster; Mary, widow of Maurice Weaver, Lancaster; and Adda, wife of William R. Pontz, Strasburg.

Cyrus M. Zittle, a life-long resident of Edisonville, died at his home in that place on Friday night, aged seventy-seven years, death resulting from heart disease. The deceased was a native of Lampeter Township. He was a stone mason by trade, and for a number of years operated the stone quarries in his hometown. He was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church. His wife and the following children survive: Harry, Aldus, and Christian, Edisonville; Mrs. Edward Bowermaster, Georgetown; Mrs. Jacob Fisher, Witmer; Mrs. Clayton Leaman, Lancaster; Mrs. J. Maurice Weaver, Strasburg; Mrs. William Pontz, Edisonville. A brother, Josiah Zittle, East Lampeter, and a sister, Mrs. Maris Weaver, Lampeter, also survive. The funeral will be held from his late home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 at Longenecker's Church, were interment will be made.

Daniel H. Zittle, 82, of Downingtown, died Wednesday of natural causes at home.
He retired in 1980 as a foreman for PennDOT after 10 years. He previously worked for the former Downingtown Manufacturing Co. for 35 years.
He was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Downingtown.
He was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1153, Downingtown, where he attained the fellowship degree; Elks No. 854, West Chester; Minquas Fire Company, where he served as assistant chief; and Alert Fire Company.
He was a member of Keystone Fire Chiefs Association and a social member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Brandywine Post 845, Downingtown.
Born in Downingtown, he was the son of the late B. Frank and Mary Cunningham Zittle.
He was the husband of the late Alice M. Lobb Zittle.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. and Daniel F. Sr., both of Downingtown; seven daughters, Marie I. Peazzoni of New Holland, Patricia L. Peterson of Stevens, Margaret P. Smith of Broomall, Ethel M. Beebe and Barbara A. Moore, both of Downingtown, and Dorothy M. Mest and Sharon E. Davidson, both of West Chester; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William S. and George, both of Downingtown; and two sisters, Pearl Miller of West Chester and Mary Rinier of Clearwater, Fla.

Death was caused suddenly by a stroke of apoplexy, after several months� illness. The following children survive: Mrs. Jacob S. Bachman and Mrs Harry Good, of West Lampeter, and Mrs. Enos M. Kreider, Lancaster. She is also survived by one brother, and two sisters-Mrs. Geo. Arnent, Mrs. Benjamin Harnish of East Lampeter; John Fraelich of Middletown. Mrs. E. Stella Heidlebaugh Zittle, eighty-seven, Strasburg, died Saturday at the homr of Mrs. Charles Frey, 1733 Lincoln Highway East, after a long illness.
She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Kauffman Heidlebaugh. She lived in Lancaster County all her life. She was the widow of Aldus Zittle.
She is survived by two sisters, Kate Heidlebaugh, Lancaster, and Mrs. Edith Philips, Columbia; and a stepdaughter, Jean, wife of Eric Mayer, Newark, Del., and four grandchildren.

Josiah Zittle, retired farmer of West Lampeter township, died Wednesday night at 9:30 o'clock in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob F. Bachman, aged 82 years. He had been in failing health a short time. He was a member of the Reformed Mennonite church. He is survived by these children: Laura, wife of Jacob F. Bachman, with whom he resided; Eleanore, wife of Henry S. Good, West Lampeter; Ida M., wife of Enos H. Kreider, Lancaster. One sister, Mrs. Hettie Weaver, widow of Maris B. Weaver, Lampeter, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, also survive.
Brief funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Bachman at 1:30 o'clock. Further services will be held in Longenecker's Reformed Mennonite church at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
