Vanished Site Data

Site Name:

Tur Mai Kai

Site Location:

S. Westnedge Avenue. Portage

Date Vanished:

2004

Site Information:

One of the area’s first Polynesian eateries, Tur Mai Kai featured island fare and faux-tropical drinks, including a “mystery drink” served with great ceremony by a scantily-clad waitperson.  The Tur Mai Kai opened in 1969. The building had a A-frame shape and the interior was elaborately fitted with lots of tiki poles, carved panels and posts, bamboo, and beachcomber lamps. The location later became the Peking Palace.  The building was demolished in the fall of 2004. The site is now home to a Red Robin restaurant and a Carrabba's Italian Grill.
