Matthew BRAYTON was captured by Indians around 1826 and held for several
years. His adventures were published in the 1850s soon after he was
returned to his family. He enlisted in the army during the Civil War. He
died during the war and left a widow, Harriet, and a young daughter. The
last record of Harriett BRAYTON is a pension application and Jackson
City Directories that show her as a resident of the city until the
1880s. I need any information on Matthew and Harriett BRAYTON and their
daughter, who might have been named Irene.
I am also working on the Thomas McCOURTIE and Horace WILCOX families
from near Cement City, 1830s-1916; and my grandparents, Noah Wilson and
Jennie May (WILCOX) WELCH, who lived in Henrietta Township, Jackson
County, when my dad was born there in 1905. They also lived for a few
years after 1905 near Stockbridge. Can anyone tell me exactly where they
lived?

Thomas
Sally Thomas, wife of Samuel, was born in New Jersey about 1798. The
Thomases
bought land in Spring Arbor, Section 2 & 27 in 1837. I would like to know
if
Sally Thomas was the sister of Squire French, b. 1789 NJ, who also lived in
Spring Arbor from 1835 till his death in the 1850/60's. When I was at the
Jackson library, there was a book that listed surnames of county residents
and
gave a history of them, I would be interested in knowing if Samuel and Sally
Thomas are listed and what it says.

I am researching GEORGE JENNINGS of Jackson Co, Mich who appears in the
1860 census of Jackson Co, sandstone township, age 35, coalminer born
England and his wife ELIZABETH TRACEY. They had children JOHN and BLANCHE
M.
He does not appear in the 1870 census of that County.
By 1887 they lived in Dallas, Tx.
I have his cane (handed down thru the family generations) which is
inscribed on the top : "Presented by the workingmen of the porter coal
mines to George Jennings July 1,1874."
I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the Porter Coal Mines in the
central Michigan area?

Seeking ASHCRAFT family records. Jared and Martha left Otsego County NY and
she died in Jackson, Jackson County, supposedly about 1832. Jared returned
to NY where he lived with his children until just after 1870 census, then
returned to Jackson and died there 1871. His son Elhanan married and had
children and lived in Jackson up until just after 1880 census. Then
disappears! Where did this family go? They were stoneworkers, possibly
had a cemetery monument business.

I have information on Record of Land Deeds that show:
On 7 August 1849 for the consideration of $120.00, James M. Gould of Parma
Twp. to David W. Armstrong of the same place, a lot in the village of Parma.
Witnesses: C. Armstrong and Isaac McAllister.
It has been said that David moved a log cabin to that area that his
ancestor had built four miles north of there years before. His father would
have been Elliot Armstrong of Shoreham, VT. I have wondered if MI land was
given to veterans of the War of 1812 and maybe Elliot did have land there.
Anything that can be searched I would appreciate. If you could pass it on
to
who ever does this. I am happy to pay for copies and would appreciate
hearing what it amounts to first.
