JACKSON COUNTY MICHIGAN GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Jackson County Genealogical Society, an organization formed and dedicated to the encouragement  and enhancement of genealogy, was formed in 1977.

Society objectives are:

  • Preserve and make available for genealogical research the records of the Jackson County Michigan area.
  • Encourage and assist the study of family history, promote the exchange of genealogical knowledge, and encourage the central deposit of genealogical records.
  • Cooperate with other genealogical societies and assist Jackson County area libraries in collecting genealogical records, expanding their collections of published genealogical records, and publishing genealogical material.
  • Publish material of genealogical interest and use to Society members.

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

During the fall of 2008 members of the Austin Blair Camp No. 7 Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War replaced the headstones of eight veterans of the Civil War buried at Jefferson Cemetery.   A dedication ceremony attended by more than 100 people many descendents of the Veterans was held on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the Cemetery in Columbia Township, Jackson County Michigan. Please see the updated Pioneer Certificate Application.  It now goes to the year 1940. 

JCGS gets credit for return of toner and ink jet cartridges and all qualifying purchases at Office MAX and Office Depot.
