The county seat is in Bad Axe, Michigan.
Huron County was organized in 1859. Its parent counties were Saginaw, St. Clair, and Sanilac Counties. Huron County is located in the northern tip of the Michigan "Thumb" and is bordered by Tuscola and Sanilac Counties to the south and Lake Huron to the north and east.
