INTRODUCTION
Fort Brady, Michigan: It's raison d'etre -- importance in our system of defenses -- with the brief history of it.

The title of this paper is a misnomer. My original intention was
to devote but a very small part
of it to the history of Fort Brady,
but the more I investigated the subject, the more I became interested in
it, and saw that even a condensed history would take much time for its
preparation as I could spare. Therefore decided to write a full account
of the military occupation of this section of the country and leave the
other parts of the above title for future treatment.

The history of the military occupation of the region bordering on the St. Mary's River.
The above is a more accurate title for the following article. For the proper treatment of the subject it has been divided into five parts, viz. The History of this region under the Indians, the Jesuits, the French, the English, and the United States.
PART
I - Under the Indians
PART
II - Under the Jesuits
PART
III - Under the French
PART
IV - Under the British
PART
V - Under the United States
