Adoption meeting
BATH - Adoptee access to original birth certificates has become Maine law. Those interested can learn how adoptee and birth parent rights will be affected at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Mae's Cafe, 160 Centre St. For more information, call 443-9876.
When did this become law? I thought they were not going to allow this. It has it's pro's and con's. How do you get your original birth certificate? I have met most of the ones who want to know me. Believe me, if you are adopted, no matter how bad you think you want to know them, LEAVE IT ALONE. I wish I had. But I do want my birth certificate if there is any way possible as I don't believe them for one minute and everybody has a different man for my father. It's a night mare.
This may not pertain so much to the issue with adoptees, but with all of the emphasis on Homeland Security and all that hooplah, I am amazed and appalled that it is SO EASY for anyone to obtain a birth certificate. I was able to obtain a copy of my childs birth certificate without showing even one piece of identification! Date of Birth, hospital, $10, and it's yours! Even the City Clerks are amazed that it's that easy. I really wish that someone in the legislature would fix this and now. Think of how this would benefit child kidnappers! If they had the birth certificate in their possession, would anyone question their right to 'their child?'
Yes! Having adoption papers trumps a birth certificate any day. Your worries have no basis in fact.
Effective 1 Dec 2001, I will no longer be manually tracking surname researchers and/or queries for Sagadahoc County. Because of health problems, I have found it increasingly difficult to give these tasks the attention they deserve and have made the decision to allow you to search these functions via the Rootsweb Genforum pages. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause certain individuals as a result of my decision; it wasn't an easy one to make. Thank you for your understanding.
Please do not ask me to do any personal research!!! -- I will not accept ANY requests to conduct personal research! Although I am a native of Maine, I am not a current resident of Maine; I live in Florida. We're always in need of individuals who are willing to help others by conducting onsite research or lookups in libraries or record offices in Augusta or any other repository. You do not need to be a resident of Maine to be a volunteer lookup resource. Why not join us?
I will, however, do lookups in many resources -- you will find a list of my personal library resources on the Lookups page. Because my lookup resources are many, please be sure to mention which resource you wish me to search; any request for a lookup without naming the resource, will not be acknowledged. A tremendous amount of information is available online through the efforts of some very wonderful volunteers and I will make every effort to continue adding new material to these pages. There are also many professional genealogists who will be happy to conduct your personal research for you - albeit at a fee. I, however, have a family, do my own personal research, volunteer for the various genealogical-related organizations I belong to, and maintain five websites. Any time I spend answering personal requests takes away from my already-scarce available time maintaining and adding new information to these sites. Your understanding and cooperation is very much appreciated in this matter.
The US GenWeb Project database archives are now online. Information is needed for Sagadahoc County to expand the resouces available for genealogists on the Internet -- cemetery listings, census information, family histories, extracted vital records, etc. -- as long as it's in text format. No GEDCOMS allowed please (archiver's preference for his generosity). Click here for a listing of files pertaining to Sagadahoc County.
