This is my first experience hosting a US GenWeb Project County Page and I am very flattered to be among such dedicated and wonderfully-talented people. I have been involved with genealogy since I was 15 years old (over 50 years ago - and that's as much giveaway as you'll get) and I've been involved with computers since the early 1970s. My last full-time position (before I retired in 1996) was publishing documents on the Internet for the US Government at a Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory in Idaho Falls, ID.
I was born in Bath, Sagadahoc, ME; my father was a Bath native and my mother was born in Brunswick (Cumberland County). My mother's family is French-Canadian and Swedish and my father's family is primarily English (England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales). So ... I've had a little bit of experience doing research in New England and have "tramped" through many a cemetery and dusted off many books and binders in old town records and city halls. I am a long-time member of the New England Genealogy and Historical Society (NEHGS), the National Genealogical Society (NGS), the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) - Halpatiokee Chapter Florida, the Maine Genealogical Society, the Connecticut Genealogy Society, and many other national, state, and local societies and family associations. For many years I was a beta tester for the Family Search Program for the Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). I also teach genealogy classes (beginning, intermediate, advanced, etc.) and am an avid advocat of people touching people. I guess you could say I'm a very busy person. In my spare time I like to play golf and spend time with my husband. My own genealogy databases are available at http://users.comcast.net/~alafl/ack07 and you are all invited in for a "look-see."
I haven't been able to get back to Maine as often as I'd like, especially to visit my "heaven on earth" - Popham Beach - but I hope to make the trip very, very soon. If it weren't for my arthritis and my intense dislike of the cold, I'd probably be walking that beach right now. Although I don't live in Maine, my ties are very strong and I am a staunch defender of our "Yankee" way of life. I personally don't have much in the way of resources in my home library of Sagadahoc-specific information, but I can offer you the means whereby you can search out and find other researchers and resources who do have what you're looking for.
My genealogy class students always chuckle when I tell them my definition of a genealogist, so I'll share it with you - "a genealogist cares and shares" - if you don't share, you evidently don't care and if you care, you will share. With that thought in mind, I'll leave you to continue with your online explorations and please feel free to drop in anytime - the door is always open.
