Cumston Hall

Cumston Hall, designed by Harry Hayman Cochrane, distinguished local artist, and presented to the town by Charles McLaughlin Cumston, was built in 1899 and dedicated in 1900. It houses the repertory Theater at Monmouth, Maine's Official Shakespearean Theater, the Charles M. Cumston Free Public Library, and is the center for local dramatic events year-round. This unique building, with the auditorium's unique acoustics, has attracted visitors from around the world, and was the set for an episode of the television series Route 66 with actress Joan Crawford.
