He came from Wayne to Peru prior to 1819 and is said to have been the first to settle west of William Walker, Jr. His farm was up on Lovejoy Hill, next to the Hammon cemetery. Due to old age, he and his wife gave up the farm and moved in with their son, Thomas, who lived on top of Burgess Hill. This place burned down while Rollins Hammon lived there.
