At time of his father’s death, he was 18, and with his mother and all of her children he was carried to Canada by the Indians, and held a prisoner there for seven years, six years by the Indians and one year by the French. He then made his escape with two other prisoners, who were aided by an Indian woman named Mary, who led them through the woods to Casco Bay. He was with uncles in Winter Harbor and recorded there in 1717. Served as an Indian interpreter and store owner. Captain in the militia.
