(Obituary from the Rumford Falls Times, April 12, 1929)
Winthrop Newton Akers, a life long citizen of Andover, died Friday night [April 5, 1929] after an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Akers, who was 71 years of age, was the son of the late William and Mary (Newton) Akers, and had always lived in North Andover.
Several years ago he purchased the John Roberts farm where he has since resided.
He was a member of Cabot Lodge, Knights of Pythias, and of Lone Mountain Grange.
Surviving are his widow and five children, three sons, Irving by a former marriage, Ralph of Rumford, and Merle, who lives at home; two daughters, Mrs. Merle Burgess, of Rumford Center, and Mrs. Clarence Hall, of Andover; and five grandchildren; also a brother, Eben A. Poor, of California, and a sister, Mrs. Lena Graves, of Andover.
