GARDINER--Irving E. Doughty, 98, formerly of Sligo Road, Yarmouth, died Tuesday, Jan. 17 at a Gardiner hospital. Area survivors include two daughters Pearl Wright of Bowdoinham and Lena Savage of Woolwich.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1885, Chebeague Island, son of Emerson and Lena Baker Doughty. He attended Portland schools.
Mr. Doughty worked as a sheet metal worker. He also worked at Bath Iron Works and at Portland Shipyard.
He lived in Yarmouth for more than 50 years and came to Gardiner in 1977.
His wife, Mabel MaNeill, died in 1961.
He was a former member of the Yarmouth Baptist Church.
Besides his daughters, he leaves a son, two other daughters, 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A grave-side service will be held in the spring.
Visiting hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 37 Portland St., Yarmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Woolwich, ME, in care of Jerome Bailey, Wiscasset, ME 04578.
