Prior to 1780 he removed to Worcester, MA. It was there that he raised a company which shows patriotic service during the Revolutionary War. His son Jacob, was among those who enlisted. Between 1790 and 1795 he removed to Maine and settled in Hebron. He received his land title by an order of the General Court and the registry shows that he, as collector of the town of Hebron, made conveyances of land held for taxes. He was one of the first settlers of Hebron and there is a rock on the old Gurney farm where the first bread in town was made.
