Misc. Notes
George was a member of the Massachusetts militia, South Co., 1699 and was "called Capt. George because of his successful commission on treating the Indians and by his skill, he kept their good will and secured peace for those early settlers."

"For his service to the Massachusetts colony, he was granted a tract of land in Carver and upon this land, some of his descendants still live. He was a large landowner and had a large family. He sold his house on Mill St. Plymouth to Joseph Mitchell for 90 sh., 1711.

"George resided in Plymouth till 1711. The next year he is described as of Plympton, where he was already, the owner of considerable land. He gave deeds to each of his sons during the later years of his life, of land near him and near to each other, on which it seems that most of them resided. One deed conveys to his sons and sons-in-laws the privilege and the right to take iron ore from Sampson's pond in (Carver) for which they are to pay him two shillings pence per ton. The descendants of George still in this town and occupy lands that have been in their families for generations."

"It seems a fair inference that he must have been quite wealthy. His will disposes of added quantities of land among his sons, and the grandchildren and directs the payment of small legacies to his daughters. His son Peleg is made executor and residing legatee." The will bears the date of (9/4 /1750) and is signed 'Gorg Barrow'. (Massachusetts rec. 7/143 and Maine H 7G Rec.)

By 1712, George has moved to Plympton where he was already the owner of considerable quantities of land. Plympton became in 1790 the town of Carver, Massachusetts. Here George was known as 'Captain George' and being, it is said, a successful negotiator with the Indians, he was often entrusted with the setlement of business affairs with them. He seems to have been a very great and enterprising young man, brought up by a respected large family, which appear to have inter-married with the most respected families of that vicinity.

George gave deeds to each of his sons during the later years of his life, of lands near him and near to each other, on which it seems most of them resided. One deed conveys to his sons and sons-in-law the privilege and right to take iron ore from Sampson's Pond in Plympton for which they a re to pay him two shillings sixpence per ton. The descendents of George still reside in this town and occupy the land that have been in their fami ly for several generations.

His son Samuel moved to Killingly CT, but 'in consideration of fatherly affection, etc., is made a recipient in 1748 of 100 acres in Plympton, near 'the forge standing on South Meadow River." The will is dated September 4, 1750 (eight years before his death) and was signed by 'gorg Barrow'. For some unknown reason his will was not presented for probate until 1794, nearly forty years after his death. The original will is supposed to be on file in the probate office of Plymouth Massachusetts."
