“For several years he was successor of his father in managing the mills at Canton. About 1850, he closed out his interest in the business and removed to a farm in Hartford. Soon after, leaving his family on the farm, he and his oldest son went to California, and remained there for several years. Returning, he moved to Peru Center and took over the operation of the Grist Mill at the Center. Later he removed back to Canton and in 1887, at the advanced age of 79, he again removed back to California, where he died.”
