Smith Cram served in the Revolutionary War as a Private in the Company commanded by Captain Jeremiah Fogg. He enlisted at Raymond, New Hampshire.

Smith moved from Raymond, Rockingham Co, NH to Pittsfield, Merrimack Co, NH (10 yrs), to New Hampton, Merrimack Co, NH (6 yrs), and then to Montville, Waldo Co, ME as one of its first settlers. His son, Smith, built the 1st dry dock in New York City and constructed the 1st steamboat that ran on the Kennebec River.
