“I have a problem with the 2nd marriage of Rufus Farrar to Lovicy Whitman. Lovicy (Whitman) Spofford died in 1867, 14 years prior to Rufus’s wife Chloe Fuller death in 1881 and 17 years prior to Rufus’s death in 1884, so Rufus could not have “married the widow of Isaac Gould Spofford” (Isaac died in 1879). Chloe was with Rufus in the 1850, 60, 70, and 80 census. In this case, Lapham’s “History of the town of Woodstock” is incorrect....horrors! I find that Rufus Jr. married an Angela Whitman and Isaac Spofford’s son married a Lavina Whitman, so Lapham got confused, but the Lovicy link is just doesn’t fit the facts.”
Indeed that’s all true.
