“Baptists were also numerous in the early town. They were ministered to by Stephen Chase and Jacob Whitman, of Woodstock; Christopher Bryant and others in Greenwood. What was known as the Woodstock and Greenwood Baptist Church was organized in 1830, by the people of the east part of Greenwood, and the west part of Woodstock. The services were generally held in the Bryant Neighborhood, in Greenwood. No church edifice was ever erected by the society, its meetings being held in the school house. Dea. Jacob Whitman, Dea. Christopher Bryant, Jacob Whitman, Jonathan Cole, Joseph Whitman, D. Ricker, L. Whitman, and Cyprian Cole were leading members.”
