John Faunce joined the Pilgrims who sailed from England in 1623. He was not a member of the original Scrooby group, but was a “stranger” recruited by the “merchant adventurers” who financed the Colony, and a friend of the Francis Cooke family.

Francis Cooke sailed on the Mayflower with his son, but his wife, Hester Mahieu Cooke, with their three children, came on in the Anne in 1623. On the same passenger lists of sixty is the name “John Faunce probably from Burleigh, Essex.”

John Faunce of the Plymouth Colony was probably from Burleigh, Essex, England around the year 1600. He came to Plymouth, Massachusetts on the ship Anne in July 1623. He died in Plymouth, Nov. 29, 1653, and the death is entered in the Plymouth Records, and the Inventory was taken Dec. 15, 1653 and exhibited in Plymouth Court March by the widow Patience Faunce.
