The only account we have of him subsequent to his birth are contained
in two deeds now the property of Howard B. Wing, of Cataumet. The
first of these deeds is dated July 14, 1757, when Meltiah was about 30
years of age, wherein Zaccheus Swift conveyed to Meltiah Wing,
"Taylor," for £11, 6s, 8d. the "southerly side of Lot No. 137,
"reference bing had to ye Purchasers Record of Sandwich," also,
"one-half of ye sd lott on ye southerly side which I bought of Seth
Swift of Plymouth July 29, 1752." The second deed is one given some
ten years later, March 27, 1766, wherein Meltiah Wing, "tailor," for
£26 conveyed to Nathaniel Wing, "yeoman," a "certain piece of land
beginning at the corner of the fence by the county road by the lands
of Nathan Wing and Ward Swift, then westerly to the pond, then to the
most nortmost part of Thomas Barlow's land, then southerly and
southwesterly by said Barlow's fence to the pond or across the pond,
thence easterly to a stake by the county road." Elizabeth and Simeon
