Wellesley C. (Wellie) Wright, 91, of Freeport, and formerly of Bowdoin, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Freeport Nursing Home.
Wellesley was born in Boston on May 8, 1915, the sone of William Wellesley and Mary (Card) Wright. Wellesley grew up in Woolwich and attended area schools. On Nov. 23, 1938, he married Pearl Doughty and together they raised a family. He worked many years at Bath Iron Works and for various area construction companies. He retired in 1978 from Stuart Construction Company. He was a member of the West Bowdoin Baptist Church.
Wellesley was devoted to his family and was a loving caretaker to his wife. He enjoyed nature, animals, farming, yard sales, repairing lawn mowers, talking on the CB, and telling stories of his life and times. His family says that he was a good man, kind and loving and always ready to lend a helping hand.
Wellesley was predeceased by his loving wife in 2002, and a son, John E. Wright, in 1990.
He is survived by sons Paul A. Wright and his wife Ann of Wiscasset, and Leon R. Wright and his wife Nancy of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, Winifred Chauvin of Middletown, CT; and several nieces.
A memorial service for family and friends is planned for early summer at Bay View Cemetery, Bowdoinham, date and time to be announced.
Note: (Grandpa) Wellesley Wright met Eloise Ferris Straight when he and Pearl travelled to N.S. in the 1970s, and they communicated until her death.
