Wayne, Maine Town History ~ Bicentennial Edition 1998

A NEW
HISTORY OF WAYNE, MAINE
Research to uncover some of our lost or unpublished history led to a rich "paper trail" of primary source materials left by Wayne's early settlers for us to discover 200 years later.  This treasure provided the impetus for writing the new History of Wayne in celebration of the town's Bicentennial.  Further examination of town records, diaries, letters, and archival records of veterans of the Civil War period resulted in three chapters that serve as a tribute to the Wayne men who served in that tragic conflict.  This history contains  primary source facsimiles, maps, charts, Civil War letters; and a brand new  24"x30" map of the original settlers lots with names of original lot owners developed specifically for this history! Soft covered, spiral binder. Indexed.
Contents include:
Two State of Maine geologists authored this section which is a fascinating explanation of Wayne's geological evolvment and description of the changes in her landscape. Also included is a chapter on the Native American presence in Wayne.
Mrs. Ault authored nearly 100 pages discussing Wayne's diverse origins; Land surveyors & events before the first settlers; Wayne's first settlers & pre revolution; The war years as experienced by Wayne's future settlers;  New town for the new 19th century. If your ancestor was an early Wayne settler you are bound to find them in this section!
