The
Central Kennebec Historical Council, a consortium of local heritage
organizations, is looking at the culinary culture of our forebears.
At a time when the character of our food supply has become important, a
look backward is warrented. From July 11th until the 18th, organizations
of the Heritage Council will be offering historic delicacies.

July 11 “Taste of the Past” (Saturday) Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center will feature “The Domestic Cookery,” a book published in 1807 by A. Lady which was routinely given to new brides. This informative book provides information on cooking, purchasing and storing foods, as well as maintaining a home during that period. Visitors will be given the opportunity view the book and to taste some foods made with recipes found in “The Cookery.” This program is in conjunction with the Kennebec Heritage Council, a consortium of area museums. 1:00 – 4:00 Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center July 30 History of Grain and Bread Baking in the Skowhegan Region During the Mid-1800’s Presenter: 2015 Kneading Conference Presenter TBA This interactive presentation will cover some of the history of raising grain and bread baking in this region during the mid-1800’s. September 19 Harvest Heritage Tea (Saturday) Co-sponsored by the Bloomfield Garden Club and Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center Speaker: Paul Johnson “Wildflowers-” Mr. Johnson’s presentation will highlight some common, as well as some not so common, wildflowers found in Maine’s woodlands, wetlands, and open lands.
