The following was written for the Lewiston Journal and printed 6 Apr 1871 in the Lewiston Weekly Journal. Title: Early Settlement of Livermore
Elijah Livermore first came into the Township, which according to local statistics, was in the Spring of 1779, when he and his family, left Waltham, MA, his native town and ith them proceeded to the District of Maine. He first appears at Winthrop, which was then called Powntown, (Lincoln County, Maine) leaving his family there from April until October following between which periods he with other help made suitable provision for those left behind him. From the so called Powntown, to this town town known as (Port Royal) no road existed, and the only way was by spotted trees through Waynem which was then known as Littlesborough. He moved his family the following fall to their new home, Port Royal.
