I was very excited to see this topic on the web and read your topic with great interest.
But when it got most interesting, it stopped.

I am very much interested in how Maine's share was distributed to the people.
I understand Maine gave the (entire?) sum to the towns. In turn (a few?, many? all?)
towns gave it to the people (including children?). I would be most grateful if you could
fill in a few of these gaps in my information.

In connection with this distribution, Hampden had a March 1837 census wich lists my great
grandfather Hicks and his wife and my grandfather and 4 of his siblings. It includes a
brother who, according to other records was born in June 1837. Two sisters, who I
would expect to be listed, were not.
