Second, check to see that the e-mail address under which you subscribed to the list is the same e-mail address from which you are trying to send your message. The use of aliases is one possible cause for problems experienced in sending messages.

Contact the List Administrator:

I am the listowner for the Taffet-L and Taffet-D surname lists. My name is Mary D. Taffet, and you may contact me at any time for help should you need it. My e-mail address is [email protected]. I cannot promise an immediate answer, but I can promise an answer within a day or two.

My lineage:

I am not a direct descendant of any Taffet line, but my husband is. His line is Joseph Jacob Taffet & Fannie Landau > Samuel Taffet & Minnie Homlevsky > Joseph Jerome Taffet & Lorraine Siegel > Steven Mark Taffet (my husband).

-----------------------

Origin of the Taffet family:

We are not certain as to the origin of the Taffet family. Family lore indicates that they came from Alsace-Lorraine, but there is not any substantial information to back up that claim as far as I know. In the latter part of the 19th century, many individuals in the Taffet family were living in an area that was then part of Austria-Hungary, but is now part of Poland. There were lines from Dembitz/Debica, lines from Tarnapol, lines from Trembowla, lines from Krakow, and possibly others as well. Some members of the family immigrated to the U.S. as early as the 1880's, some died in the Holocaust, some were held in Concentration Camps, and some later went to Israel or other locations. If you know of other historical information surrounding the Taffet family, please let me know.

Surname Variants:

A surname variant is one where the name is spelled differently but nevertheless refers to the same family. In some cases variants exist because of errors made by persons transcribing handwritten records (My husband's great-grandfather's naturalization record is recorded with the name Josef Taffat; some Taffet's in the Ellis Island records are showing up as Taffert). In some cases variants exist because census takers or other persons wrote a name the way it sounded, rather than the way it should be spelled (Alfred Taffet's names is spelled A. Tafet in one case -- related to the NYC Dembitzer organization). Lastly, surname variants exist because people, from time to time, choose to change the way their name is spelled (some Taffet's have apparently adopted the very common misspelling of Taffett).

Known variants of the Taffet surname include (in alphabetical order):

If you know of any surname variants, please send them to me at [email protected], with an indication of the circumstances under which they appeared.
