[email protected]

You must turn off html before you send your message, as Rootsweb does not accept messages in html -- they will be returned to you without going to the list. If you find that you have a problem sending messages to the list, there are two things to check. First, check that you are using the proper address. DO NOT send messages intended for the list to DRESSLER-L-request; you must use [email protected] instead. Second, check to see that the e-mail address under which you subscribed to the list is the same e-mail address from which you are trying to send your message. The use of aliases is one possible cause for problems experienced in sending messages.

Contact the List Administrator:

I am the list administrator for the DRESSLER-L and DRESSLER-D surname lists. My name is Mary Dresser Taffet, and you may contact me at any time for help should you need it. My e-mail address is [email protected]. I cannot promise an immediate answer, but I can promise an answer within a day or two. When you send me an e-mail, please identify the mailing list that you are contacting me about, as I manage several different lists.

My lineage:

I have no DRESSLER lineage; rather I have a DRESSER lineage, which is: Joseph Dearborn Dresser & Susan Almira Smith > Frank Joel Bemis Dresser & Delia McClosky > Frank Charles Bemis Dresser & Janette Mary 'Nettie Mae' Moses > Walter Charles Dresser & Charlotte Mathews Boice > me

Surname Variants:

A surname variant is one where the name is spelled differently but nevertheless refers to the same family. In some cases variants exist because of errors made by persons transcribing handwritten records. In some cases variants exist because census takers or other persons wrote a name the way it sounded, rather than the way it should be spelled. Lastly, surname variants exist because people, from time to time, choose to change the way their name is spelled.

Because DRESSLER is itself a variant of my DRESSER spelling, I am less familiar with the variants of the DRESSLER surname. I believe the following surnames could be considered as variant spellings, though I am not certain:

If you know of other surname variants, please send them to me at [email protected], with an indication of the circumstances under which they appeared.

Researcher names are arranged according to the alphabet:

Name: Dresser, Jim
E-mail: [email protected]
URL 1: Dresser Family Worldwide Genealogy Center - has lots of info not found in the searchable databases
URL 2: Database of Partial Dresser Lines - located at WorldConnect and easily searchable; includes some entries for DRESSLER
URL 3: Queries for other spellings - Includes several listings for DRESSLER and what would appear to be variants of either DRESSER or DRESSLER (such as DRESSLAER)
Focus: Jim is the best-known DRESSER researcher there is, with the most data; since DRESSLER is a variant spelling for DRESSER, Jim also collects information on DRESSLER as well. If you are researching DRESSER, his web pages are your best first point of contact; they could well also be the best starting point for DRESSLER research.
