WATTS posted by Robert Watts on Monday, August 4, 2003

John WATTS received a patent for 200 acres in August 1650. The description mentions Mockjack Bay and Ducking Pond Creek. The land was adjacent to land of William Holder, which was bordered by Horne Harbor Creek. I believe that this was close to Back Creek in Somerset Co. Can someone locate this area?

FREAKE, FREAKES, FRIGGS posted by Charles Frakes on Friday, September 12, 2003

Need a lookup of the George Washington Papers from:

Reference:
W.W. Abbot, ed., et al.
The Papers of George Washington: Colonial Series vol. 6, September 1758 - December 1760.
Charlottesville and London: University Press of Virginia, 1988.
Specifically need to see page 403 of this volume. It has a reference to an H. FREAKE, who may be the Henry FRIGGS/FREAKES, Jr. who was born in Somerset Co., MD in 1693-99, and sold Friggs Adventure in Broad Creek in 1723.

I am trying to figure out the HEARN family connection in my grandfather Hearn Lawson WARD's name. The LAWSON was his mother Lillie LAWSON's maiden name, but I can't seem to find the HEARN connection. Hearn LAWSON was the son of John Albert and the grandson of William WARD, all of Crisfield. Lillie was the daughter of James LAWSON, also of Lawsonia. Hearn married Margaret Harlove and moved to Baltimore. Anyone who is related and can help please contact me.

BOZMAN, LAWRENCE, MOORE, SHORES, WALLACE posted by K. Michael Thompson on Sunday, November 30, 2003

I have been attempting to find the European (Scots-Irish ?) roots of my Somerset County, Maryland families, including WALLACE, SHORES, MOORE and HACKNEY. I am descended from Polly WALLACE (1789-1855), wife of Thomas SHORES (1789- 1858). That is as far back as I can trace the Wallace line and the Shores line goes back to his grandfather, also named Thomas Shores (born about 1737). Thomas' father, Levin Lowe Shores (1762-1831) was married to Bridget MOORE (1775-1849, daughter of Darby MOORE and Margery HACKNEY. I am related to these lines through the LAWRENCE / BOZMAN family of Monie in Somerset County.
