MOFFET, PETTY posted by Bill Boyle on Thursday, November 2, 2000

I have the following info: Somerset Co, MD Historical Quarterly Vol VIIm, Pg 30 - PETTY, Jesse m. MOFFET, Polly Feb 19, 1803 (Finley). How can I obtain a copy of this marriage record? Is the 1800 census online for this area? I am not sure if Finley is the minister or a place.

CLUFF, MERRILL posted by Karen Merrill Rice on Wednesday, November 15, 2000

I am researching a Thomas MERRILL and Sarah CLUFF who had a son, Thomas MERRILL, baptized 1 Feb 1770 at Coventry Parish, Somerset County, MD. I am looking for Thomas' wife and children. And I would like to know what or where Coventry Parish is. Is it a church? And who would I contact about obtaining records from this place? Thanx in advance.

CLUFF, COULBOURNE posted by Shirley Cluff Cole on Sunday, November 19, 2000

I am looking for any info I can find about my grandfather's siblings: (1) George S. CLUFF b.1869 d. abt1955. He had two wives, namely, Elizabeth GRAY (GREY) and Sarah E. MUIR; and (2) Robert CLUFF for whom I have no dates but know he had two sons, Marion and Edward, and lived in Snow Hill, Md. There was a third brother, (3) William, who I know nothing about, and two sisters, (4) Etta Mae b. 1880 d. 1951 who married Jefferson DRYDEN and they had thirteen children, and (5) Mary E., who I believe married a HOLLAND. My grandfather was Charles Asbury CLUFF b. 1873 d. 1960. His father was George Isaac CLUFF 1837 - 1907 and his mother was Margaret E. COULBOURNE 1844 - 1892. If there is anyone who can give me some ideas on what happened to these brothers and and sisters and their families, please get in touch with me.

ROBINSON, WINDSOR posted by Corleen Arrowood on Tuesday, January 9, 2001

Hiram WINDSOR, b. 1860 or 1861 Dorchester Co., d. 1944, Somerset Co., buried in Taylor Cemetery (Sharptown). His brother was Joseph Windsor. It is not known who he was married to, but he had a daughter Helen who married Donald Wheatley. His sister was Malona Windsor who married an Eagon and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. Family oral history says that the family moved to Somerset Co. (Sharptown area). Hiram married a Minnie ROBINSON (no dates). They had 5 children: 1) Allen Windsor who died as young child; 2) Ralph Elwood Windsor b. 2 Aug 1895, d. 1 Oct 1918 in WW1; 3) Elizabeth Windsor who married a Dunn, and moved to Newark, DE; 4) Ethel Raye Windsor who married a Jones and had a son, Ralph Jones, now deceased; 5) James Major (Allen) Windsor, b. 19 Oct 1906 (Sharptown, Som. Co.), d. 1970 or 1971, married Beatrice Marie Jones (Sharptown, Som. Co.) d. 19 Nov 1988. They had two children, Rebecca Marie Windsor born about 1938 or 39, and Priscilla Cope Windsor b. 23 Jul 1941, d. 28 Sep 1994. Thomas Jefferson Jones b. 31 Jul 1872 (Cokesbury/Sharptown, Som. Co.) d. 7 Jul 1933. Parents were Benjamin Jones and Laura (last name not known). First marriage was to Lillie Wheatley. (nothing known other than name) died about 1912 to 1918. Children from this marriage were 1.) Hattie Jones who married Wildey Elzey. 2.) Helen Jones who married Edgar English. 3.) Beatrice Marie Jones who married James Windsor (see above) about 5/28/1928 in Sharptown, Som.Co. Second marriage of Thomas Jefferson Jones was to Bertha Taylor (this was not her maiden name. She was previously married. no children). This marriage resulted in 2 children.1.) Louise Jones who married George Vincent. and Ida Jones who married a Collins. Does anyone have anything on the parents of Thomas Jefferson Jones or parents of Hiram Alfred Windsor? All i have is what is here.Dates are given for what i have. Time periods looks to be early 1800's to early 1900's . Thank You for any help that anyone can give me. I am physically disabled so i can't get to library. I access the internet thru Webtv and it doesn't have 'download' capacity and limits access to files/sites on the internet. Corleen Arrowood [email protected]

MCCLEMMY posted by Sandy Hatfield on Friday, January 12, 2001

MCCLEMMY, 1700, Somerset Co. This ancestor is in the Jones ancesteral line and I notice that there are others that have it too. Has anyone found out from where he hailed from? Somewhere in my notes I saw a snippet on a land grant but can't find it. Anyone with the answer out there?

MILES posted by Phil Ellsworth on Friday, January 12, 2001

Genealogy.com lists parts of a webGED with Levin MILES (1797) and children that include daughters Milcah and Attalanta. I am trying to find the source of this webGED or to otherwise complete and verify this information. The 1783 Somerset tax list shows a Levin MILES at Great Annamessex and I assume that this is the same Levin. A Milcah MILES was married to John TUNNELL in Woodford County, KY, in 1812. I suspect that she may be the above Milcah but in Kentucky she has been misidentified. In Kentucky she was associated with the Whittingtons who migrated there from Somerset.

GIBBONS, GREAR, GRIER, GRIERSON, RIDGELY, SELBY, TAYLOR posted by Marjorie Godfrey on Friday, January 19, 2001

James GREAR was transported by Samuell GIBBONS of Bristol in the ship Batchelor, arriving in Maryland 02 Nov 1674. Samuell GIBBONS assigned his land rights (assigned to him by the passengers, probably, to pay for their transportation) to Robert RIDGELY, who then sold those land rights to several different people. Robert RIDGELY sold the land rights for the transportation of James GREAR (and others) to Thomas SELBY of Somerset County, MD on 06 Nov 1674. Did James GREAR remain with Thomas SELBY as his indentured servant for a period of time? For how long? Or, did someone else buy those land rights from Thomas SELBY? James GREAR was in Baltimore Co, MD, by 1686 when he witnessed a deed, where (probably) he married Ann TAYLOR, and where he probably died a few years later. Three big puzzles: 1 - Was James GREAR's previous home in England, or Ireland? Opinions differ on this. 2 - Where was James GREAR/GRIER(SON) during the years between 1674 and 1686? (His life was probably not his own for about the first seven years after his arrival.) 3 - Did James GREAR/GRIER marry before he came to America (and/or after he arrived in America), before he married Ann TAYLOR? Any information on this James GREAR (or GRIERSON) will be greatly appreciated.
