BUTLER BURNS

Gary & Dawn Yurkas Mon, 21 Jun 1999 20:37:54 -0400 Hello, My name is Dawn Yurkas, and I own a bookstore in Virginia Beach VA. I am recently purchased from a man a old family bible copyrighted in 1892. I was fascinated with Bible, not only for its ornate heavy binding, but for the artwork within it. The bible is old and in much need of restoration. Being a genealogy buff, I was delighted to find family names inside. There are three places in the back of the Bible that list towns of residence. Mt Airy, MD, Du?kirk, IN, and Chauncyville IN. On the family pages, there is nothing listed for marriages but there is the date written in as 98 next to the 18, but there are several names listed for births, done in one persons handwriting, and with the same ink. There are also many names listed in the back of the Bible(mostly BUTLER'S) with what I assume are birthdates. The families most listed in this Bible are BUTLER/BURNS. Below are listed the names that appear on the birth page, there are too many names written in the back for me to list. Like I mentioned before, the Bible is in need of serious restoration, but it is a wonderful family memento, and even has a drawn in the back of a mother with two children, done by a child, which is absolutely adorable. BIRTHS Miss Louisa BUTLER b.Oct 5th 1861 Mary Virginia Thompkins b. Aug 26th 1855 John Henry BURNS b. June (11??) 1875 Alvin James KIRKWOOD b. March 6th 1926 Lorraine Virginia BUTLER b. June 6th 1917 Helen Arnetta BUTLER b. March 16th 1922 If this is your family please contact me. Sincerely, Dawn R Yurkas

HAUGH

Roberta Hawk Wed, 09 Jun 1999 16:30:13 -0600 I recently received information from the IGI about a person I believe to be my 3rd great grandfather, but I would like some further information. I know that Carroll Co was formed in 1837, but this information specifically states that George Peter HAUGH was christened on 7 April 1833 in Carroll Co., MD. His parents were Samuel HAUGH and Maria. I believe that George HAUGH later changed the spelling of his name to HAWK, which it has remained to this day. I am anxious to learn anymore about George, Samuel, Maria HAUGH or any of their relatives. I would especially like to know if there is someone willing to look up this information for me, for a fee, of course. Thanks Bobbi Bobbi Hawk [email protected] 4812 Rimrock Rd Billings, MT 59106

At least one of them moved to Baltimore in the early 1900's as my mother, Viva V. BORTNER (daughter of Archie C. BORTNER) was born in Baltimore, Md. I think Archi's father was named Daniel. He had at least two brothers, Daniel and Bob. I remember talk of a farm. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it very much. L. Huffman. e-mail: [email protected]
