Looking for any information on WILLIAM MCWHIRTER and LETITIA DALZELL married 8-Dec-1810 at Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire, Scotland. They had at least six children: WILLIAM; SUSANA; JANE; ANTHONY and AGNES. They possibly had a son called ROBERT. All were born Cairngarroch, Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire, Scotland.

My gr-gr-gr grandfather was ABNER MCWHORTER married to MARY POLLY SPENCER and my gr-gr- grandfather was AMASA MCWHORTER married to SARAH MEEK. Did AMASA’s son, DAVID MCWHORTER, marry and, if so, to whom did he marry and who are their children? DAVID MCWHORTER was born abt 1832 in Jennings co., IN and his siblings were MARY MCWHORTER, ABNER MCWHORTER and SARAH MCWHORTER. MARY MCWHORTER married my great grandfather, ISAAC RICHEY, and ABNER MCWHORTER married ISAAC’s sister, MARTHA ELLEN, on 14-Dec-1850 in a double wedding. Hope someone out there recognizes these people and can help me out here.

I need some document (will, family bible, public record of any type, etc.) that will prove that SAMUEL ANDREW JACKSON MCWHORTER is the son of WILLIAM & SUSANNA SIGMAN MCWHORTER. WILLIAM MCWHORTER (b. 14-May-1782 in Pickens, SC; d. 5-Jul-1872 in Scott co., MS) m. SUSANNA SIGMAN (b. 20-Jun-1787 in GA; d. 27-Nov-1872 in Scott co., MS). They had eight children (that we know of): ISAAC MCWHORTER (1804-1880); JOHN POSTEN MCWHORTER (1806-abt1860); ABRAHAM G. MCWHORTER (1812-????); SAMUEL ANDREW JACKSON MCWHORTER (1815-1884); SARAH GLENN MCWHORTER (1817-1879); WILLIAM C. DAVIS MCWHORTER (1819-1850?); MARTHA ANN MCWHORTER (1824-1907); and EZEKIEL MCWHORTER (1829-1911). I believe that WILLIAM & SUSANNA moved to Scott co., MS somewhere around 1840. They were in Jackson co., GA in 1820; Butts co., GA in 1830; and in Scott co., MS in 1840. According to numerous individuals, WILLIAM MCWHORTER was a Constable in Scotts co., MS. If you can find anything that verifies that —- old records, newspaper articles, etc., I would love to have a copy of it. Any photographs would be great! I would also love to know where WILLIAM & SUSANNA were buried and have a picture of their gravesite. One source that I read said that SUSANNA was ‘...reinterred at High Point, MI next to her son, EZEKIEL’. My primary need is for something that will tie WILLIAM & SUSANNA to their son, SAMUEL ANDREW JACKSON MCWHORTER. However,as you can tell, I know very little about my gggg-grandfather WILLIAM MCWHORTER & gggg-grandmother SUSANNA SIGMAN MCWHORTER and would welcome any and all information.

I guess because I have done a lot of posting in my quest for my own line of MCWHORTERS coming from JOHN and GEORGE MCWHORTER down to ABNER MCWHORTER and my 3 ggg grandfather, others think I know all the MCWHORTERS. A young friend asked me to help her find an elusive NATHANIEL MCWHORTER who married her relative MARY HALLOCK FEAGLES. All she could give me was that he was born aft 1806 in NY. I have not been able to find this pair at all so any info would be most welcome

So many MCWHIRTERs were and remain in the Colmonell, Ballantrae area of Ayrshire in Scotland. There was a small MCWHIRTER community some 15 to 20 miles south at Cairnryan, Wigtownshire, just north of Stranraer in the late 18th century and into the 19th century. Occupations of coastguard and innkeeper. Does anyone know if these Cairnryan MCWHIRTERs actually came down the coast from Colmonell etc. and when? They may have moved down looking for work? Many thanks.

I am searching for descendants of ELI MCWHORTER of Hancock co., GA. I am a great grandson of WILLIAM REAVES MCWHORTER who was one of the middle children, but I have no knowledge of the numerous other children. ELI died about 1865 in GA. The circumstances of his death are unknown to me. ELI was married to ANNA REAVES and the REAVES family seems to have been closely connected to that MCWHORTER family. If anyone has any information I would really appreciate having them contact me. Many thanks to all my cousins who make this sharing of data possible.

I would like to find any antecedents or other connections for PATRICK MCWHIRTER (b. 1740) who m. MARY KIMMIN cir1763, prob. in Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire, Scotland. [My data ranges from firm to very tentative.] MARY might be a CUMINE from Ballantrae (b. cir1745). I did see a later CUMMING memorial in Stoneykirk kirkyard in June 2001! Their children were apparently: MARGARET (b. 18-Sep-1764 in Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire) who m. ALEXANDER HERON of Kirkinner, Wigtownshire 24-Jan-1793; JANET (b. 14-Apr-1767 , Stoneykirk); MARY (my gggg mother) (b. 23-Feb-1772, Stoneykirk) who m. DAVID KEAN at Kirkinner 8-Jun-1793; and, HELEN (b. cir1780) who m. WILLIAM SKIMIN at Stoneykirk 5-Jun-1802.

I’d like a precise birthdate for HUGH WALTER MCWHIRTER (1894-1915) of Corner Brook (Humbermouth), Newfoundland. A member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, HUGH was the first Newfoundlander to be killed in World War I, a casulty of shellfire at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, on 22-Sep-1915. HUGH was 21 when he died, so he would have been born in 1894. What date? HUGH’s parents were HENRY MCWHIRTER (b. 1859, New Richmond, Quebec; d. 1940), Corner Brook) and LOTTIE MCWHIRTER (nee CHARLOTTE HARRIS, b. 1860) of Corner Brook. I am also looking for confirmation of HUGH’s father’s name. Was it simply HENRY MCWHIRTER? I have seen it noted alternatively as ‘HUGH HENRY MCWHIRTER’.

I am looking for information on my gg-grandmother. According to an article I found she died of heart failure. She had a two year old son (my great grandfather) FLOYD CECIL BROWN, who at the age of two drank half a vial of Laudum and nearly died. The strain on her already weak heart caused her death according to the article. In the article it says that the wife of JOHN O. BROWN (my gg-grandfather) was a MCWHORTER before her marriage and was from Villa Rica, GA, where she would be buried. The article was published in either December of 1898 or January of 1899. Any information on her first name or who her parents were. Thank you.

The 1860 Vinton co., OH census shows a JAMES MCHORTON (b. abt1816 in PA) which I have determined is JAMES MCWHORTER, the oldest son of JAMES MCWHORTER, who died in Athens co., OH in 1863. There is a WILLIAM MCHORTON (b. abt1838) who I believe is JAMES Jr’s son. Lastly there is a JOHN MCHORTON (b. abt1820) who I can’t place. Does anyone have any information on this JOHN MCHORTON (MCWHORTER)? JOHN is living in the same twp. as JAMES Jr., not far from each other, which would suggest they knew each other, but I haven’t found any indication that JAMES Sr. had a son named JOHN. JOHN’s wife was SARAH J. MACE (m. in OH). Children were shown as; THOMAS, GEORGE, DEBORAH, LYDIA and MARY E.

I am seeking the parents of ELIZABETH MCWHORTER who m. CONSTANTINE LADD on 18-Jan-1827 in Franklin co., IN. I had gone on the mistaken assumption that CONSTANTINE LADD was the son of NOBLE LADD and JUDITH CAMERON (my ggggrandparents), but their CONSTANTINE LADD died around 1802 so the CONSTANTINE who m. ELIZABETH MCWHORTER is someone else. I still feel there are some ties there because in both batches of LADD info I was sent, CONSTANTINE and ELIZABETH MCWHORTER were mentioned in connection with NOBLE LADD and JUDITH CAMERON. I have not been able to pinpoint who ELIZABETH MCWHORTER’s parents are. Also, my ggggrandfather on my mom’s side is ABNER MCWHORTER who married POLLY MARY SPENCER and my gggrandfather is AMASA MCWHORTER who m. SARAH MEEK. My ggrandmother is MARY MCWHORTER who m. ISAAC RICHEY. On my dad’s side I come down from JOHN LADD, AMOS, NOBLE, NOBLE, NOBLE, CHRISTOPHER LADD (my gggrandfather) and his dau. ELIZABETH LADD who m. JAMES CLARK. I am a direct descendant of ROSANNAH "Rosie" FERRIER (b. 8-Oct-1797 in NC or possibly PA). She married FRANCIS ANDERSON "Andy" POINDEXTER Jr. 23-Jul-1820 (bond 22-Jul-1820) in Huntsville, Surry Co. NC. We have been searching for ROSANNAH's parents for nearly 40 years with no luck. I recently discovered the MCWHIRTER's connection with the FERRIER family and their moves from PA to NC and then on to TN. ROSIE and ANDY raised their family in TN and only returned to NC a few years before their deaths. They were living with one of their married daughters. ROSANNAH is a name not common to any of our other family lines. I noticed it several times within the MCWHIRTER and allied lines in NC. With that and the FERRIER connection, I am hoping you can help us find ROSANNAH's missing parents and any possible siblings she may have. We have a great deal of other family information we would love to share with present day descendants of her family. We even have some letters that were sent to her and written by her.

I am still seeking the parent’s names of JOHN THOMAS MCWHIRTER. His father was born in NC; his mother in TN. He was born in TN in Sep-1860. He married MARY (Mollie) C. ROUSE (b. Jan-1865 in Hardin co., TN). They had the following children: LULA MAE (b. Aug-1892); MARGARET LUCINDA (b. Sep-1895); GEORGE W. (b. Feb-1897); CHRISTANN (b. Sep-1898). All of the children were probably born in Chester co., TN. I can place the family in Chester co., in 1900 per the census. The name was written as MCQUITTER. Cir 1911 the family moved to Lake co., TN, where, by 1920 all had passed away with the exception of MARGARET (my grandmother). I have attempted to get a copy of JOHN THOMAS’ death certificate without results. He died during a harsh winter and was buried in Crockett Chapel cemetery, in Lake co., without any family in attendance. My thought is by the time it had warmed up enough for the family to get out of the house they forgot to file a death certificate for him. I have checked the 1870 census records in TN looking for a MCWH*RTER family who had a 9 year old son named JOHN, in hopes of finding his family. LULA married first an EASLEY, then a SAULSBERRY and died in 1918; MARGARET married a HURST, eventually moved to TX and died in the 1960’s; GEORGE died in 1920; CHRISTANN married an ALAN JONES and died in 1918. Any information on this family, or any suggestions on where I go now, will be greatly appreciated.
